    If you cut off the sides on the motor body you may have much better weight , also they make 15000 rpm hard drives, i think that would create great lift

      how to separate magnets from their support they are glued on ? without damaging them ?

    • @chrislong3938
      @chrislong3938 4 месяца назад +4

      @@franckzippo I've never found it to be very easy.
      I used to just pry, the magnet or bend the plate in the hope that they'd come apart.
      I have lots of drives to fool around with but haven't tried in a very long time.
      I've even had magnets 'explode' on me where they just come apart into a mass.
      There might be good videos out here that have good ideas!
      If you can find really old 5.25" Seagate drives with linear actuators from about 1985 or so, they have enormous magnets in them compared to what can be found in newer drives from about 1990 on.

    I saw a fan turning at 7,000 RPM and not any DRONE to show it capacity to act as so.
    The cooling fan has no aerodynamic profile , may be you should test it with a Drone propeller to show if it can lift a battery and all the stuffs together . Does that motor has enough torque to turn a real propeller at 7,000 RPM ?

    Hope you were wearing safety specs,,, because those fans aren't supposed to spin so fast and you're lucky it didn't burst at full speed either that or when you turn the power up full it could very easily twist itself up in the wires/ catch on one and bounce back into your fingers taking a chunk out of them,,, basically a pointless video as the brushleess motor's for drones are much more compact,use less power "not 12v" per corner and wouldn't need you to power a drone with the equivalent of a car battery that would run out of steam in a few minutes,, the whole idea of drones is keep the weight to a minimum even the wires needed to feed power to each corner without overheating and melting would add extra unnecessary weight 🤔

    Unfortunately there is an awful lot missed out on this. I just spotted that another screw had to be extracted from the cover to enable it to be taken off, which is under the information sheet at the back, and which has to be exposed by stripping off a small piece of the sheet. Again, we aren't informed what the orange controller does, or how to get hold of a suitable one. If you're in the know, bully for you. And although I accept that the computer fan was put on merely to make the point, it would have been much more useful to have a proper propeller, and to have some indication of the lift ability. Fan speed doesn't hack it here. And the motor weight? You have to be kidding. This sort of clip is much more to the point if the old drive is used for some sort of small sanding or grinding tool. But not a drone, no way.

      Look at a Dremel itself, which has a dedicated motor to being a sanding and grinding tool and 120V. It has no torque whatsoever and is very easy to stall. I doubt a disc drive would have even a fraction of the torque that a typical rotary tool does. Curious to see if he actually tries to build a drone with this motor or by using 4 of them??

    • @CnRSPACE
      @CnRSPACE 7 месяцев назад +1

      Plenty of people have used these to make working drones. The orange controller is an ESC electronic speed controller for RC model motors. The dial he uses is a PWM to control the ESC. Also the only two most important factors in RC model drones is RPM of the motor and its weight other than input values. Thrust is calculated from RPM + propeller characteristics so in terms of making a drone the only other important factor is motor weight.

    Cool video. I fly Pro Drones from DJI but it would be fun to build one myself. Just to make it fly.

    Did I miss the video where you made 4 of them and mounted them on a drone and flew away?

    Dam good idea, a drone with wires attached, then turn the motor full power to burn it out.Just one though just how much spare cable do u have before it goes 50ft? if it dont fly... what is the point of making it. A hard drive is not ment to fly... or is it?

    When did they start to make the hard drives with brushless motors?

    How you control the motor can you give us a schematic or how it is named and where to buy any detail will be helpful. Also you can make from this little cutting machine or sanding/brushing, or for sharpening of blades.

    Io se avessi fatto il video, avrei prima di rimontare l'hdd, avrei ripulito i piatti che sono pieni di impronte(che leggerezza) ma addirittura sul secondo dei piatti c'è ne sono tantissime. ;-))))

    that looks cool...what is under the heat shrink how is it wired to motor? that is puzzling

    • @PrinzKenny1
      @PrinzKenny1 8 месяцев назад

      Under the heatshrink is an ESC. Since hard drive motors are BLDC motors, they have 3 phases whereas each phase is connected to a pair (or multiple) of coils inside the motor. Normal DC motors just require + and - and they run. For BLDC motors it's different because you need to turn on and off the coils in a specific order and at the right time. That's what the ESC does. A simple ESC contains 6 mosfets to be able to spin the motor forward and reverse (some might only have 3 mosfets, which would result in only forward motion. You can take a look at full H bridge or half H bridge if you want to take a deeper look). Besides the mosfets there's also an IC which does all the calculations for controlling the three phases according to the input signal from the potentiometer. There's way more to it, but I hope this helps for a brief understanding of what's going on :)
