  • It's the part of your uke that you touch the most.
So cleaning and maintaining your fretboard is important. Micah, our Kanileʻa Krew member who showed us how to clean & polish the finished parts of our instruments in a previous vid, returns to take on the fretboard. This is a 2007 K-3 Tenor Premium built by Kanileʻa ʻUkulele.

When my family toured the factory in 2019 Joe Sousa was the guide . I recall Micah was working in the glue-up/assembly area that day. Indeed he does wear many hats!

Ahhh. After watching part 1 where you cleaned the body, I had to search for part 2 to see that fretboard get cleaned too! …I feel better now.

Mahalo, brah! Great video! Would it be okay for use one soft bristle toothbrush and then the microfiber? Old English lemon furniture oil is what I’ve been using and it to do the trick.

I thought when changing strings it was best to remove and replace them one at a time, to maintain the tension between the bridge and the nut. Is there a downside to removing all strings at the same time for cleaning, or any special care needed when replacing the strings afterwards??

Nylon strings don't have enough tension to make that matter.

When changing strings for the sake of changing strings, going one at a time is not totally necessary. If you feel like doing it that way then do that. The only time we 100% recommend leaving at least 1 string at tension is when you change strings on an instrument with an installed undersaddle piezo pickup. The pickup was balanced and the saddle placed in a very specific location. If this is the case we would say absolutely leave at least 1 string at full tension.

Can you just use this Formula 65 for body polishing on the body and cleaning of fretboard?

Formula 65 is a series of cleaning products and if there is a body polish they claim is good for the body then that works. Always read the directions of the bottles before use.

Why do some let their instruments get so gummy? I’m regularly amazed-disgusted at what is brought to my repair room. It’s a shame when even the cheapest instruments are minor works of art or good craft.

I have many instruments and they never get that gross. Whomever used that must have some acidic sweat LOL
