- While Alum Cave is the most popular trail leading up to Mt LeConte, there are 4 other routes worth checking out. The Trails Forever Program will be working on Alum Cave trail from Spring 2015 until completed in late 2016. During this period, the trail will remain closed from Monday - Thursday. However, don't let this stop you from traveling on one of the other trails to explore this beautiful mountain.
I've been lucky to hike up and down all these trails!
I hiked up Rainbow Falls to the top of mt Leconte and back down through Bull Head trail yesterday in 6 hours... I can't feel my legs today, but i'm so happy I did it!
Very nice. Thank you for making this video and posting it. My son and I have done Alum Cave several times, plus the Boulevard Trail as well as Rainbow Falls. We plan to do Bullhead and Trillium Gap this summer and possible Brushy Mountain.
Update: We did Bullhead on 3 April 2015. It was a beautiful day with great hiking weather. I think we will do this one again when the fall color start coming in.
There is nothing like hiking in the Smokies in those high elevations. I feel like my spirit is free from the worries of life for a brief period of time.
Did the Mt. Leconte Bullhead Trail last year when we were there. Looking forward to doing the Rainbow Trail this year.
Thanks for the video. Very informative and nicely done
Thank you for this video. We have hiked Alum Cave three times to Mt. LeConte and loved it. Looking forward to hiking the other trails and spending the night up top.
Planning on taking Rainbow Falls to Mt. Leconte in June. Can't wait.
It is a hard trail and feels like it is never ending but you will love it once you are done. June is a beautiful time to do it in. It will still be somewhat cool in the upper elevations so that will make it easier. Enjoy!
I hiked the Alum Cave Trail in 2010, and it was absolutely amazing. Some day I hope to make it back in stay in the lodge. Unfortunately I live in the Dallas area, and it's a major trip now.

Here is a list of some of the trails of the park along with their rating for the level of difficulty. As you will see, Rainbow Falls Trail and the Bullhead Trail are rated among the toughest in the park. However, the views are worth the effort and sweat. You will know you have accomplished something when you are done hiking these!
Great job Gary!!
Great video!
I hiked up Rainbow Falls to the summit of LeConte yesterday. I came face to face with a black bear while hiking solo. I backed away and he disappeared into the shrubs. It was interesting to say the least. Made the summit in 3 hours. Beautiful, but I recommend not going solo.
yeah
hey, trying to backpack this in July. are they camping areas for backpackers along the trails?
Why are Appalachian Trail hikers charged for a permit to hike through a National park ?
are any of the trails dog friendly ?
