That's it. I vote for a furze tunnel under every house where you can put all your wiring across the entire house with ease!! And large thick conduits inside the bricks themselves so you can stuff 10 cables if you wanted to, to specific points.
So long as it is not powdered you should be fine, but PVA would sort that out in emergencies together with PPE, double bag the suspected material before proper disposal. On big jobs it’s worth getting a sample tested and consider specialist removal.
CEF is good for getting obscure things at short notice. I needed a three phase C25 recently and the only place I could find that had one of any brand in stock was CEF.
Did you check with the Home owner before lifting that piece of wood as it may have been to cover asbestos tiles or tiles that have asbestos based adhesive on the back
In kitchen have ever thought just to pvc trunking it? If it's coming out shortly any way, if you leave plenty flex etc. Probably make better job in long run and can be altered easily depending on the new kitchen layout. Just an idea
That board under the kitchen appliances serves 2 purposes, the main purpose would be to level the floor, the other purpose is to provide a basic fire barrier for the bitumen tiles underneath, they burn with a thick black smoke and won't stop burning once ignited!
The tricky part is that not all of them contain asbestos. The only way to truly know is to have them tested. Otherwise, it's best to remove them as best as possible without breaking them up. Airborne particles inhaled can lead to cancer.

I've recently done several chases in my walls in order to run CAT6, however the majority of chasers, including mine only chase max 30mm. Problem I have is I want to use 20mm conduit, but the 20mm knockouts on 30/47mm back boxes are too far back. Is it easier to holesaw holes closer to front of back boxes OR chase deeper, if so how?
You need to be a little careful, guidance is not to chase deeper than 1/3 the leaf thickness - if it's an old brick wall the thickness is around 100mm, at which point depending on plaster thickness you probably can't chase much deeper than 30mm anyway...
It's not just CAT6, it's coax, speaker wire. I would prefer to use round conduit incase my needs case and need to run more/new cable. Also hence why I need the deeper backboxed as I will using Euro modules
I was just about to say the same. All the places ive seen similar tiles test positive for asbestos. Looks like they came up with out breaking up too much

I have seen simalar on company computer networks. Organic growth without any planning or updating of existing infrastructure. i had a 40 amp shower cable going out the back of the consumer unit, through the wall up the outside of the wall across a flat roof, under the eaves and into the shower room. all because they didnt want to redecorate. all in twin and earth. it was super crispy but the customer said he didn't want it touching (I was there to do a shed)
Not being funny mate but looking at that chase you just showed me it looked like your chase went through your switch and onto your socket outlet when you cannot go through the switchbox with your socket supply cables, and don't tell me that the chase was at the side of the switch because I could see the square knocked out for the switch had the chase running through it ?
The chase is deeper than the switch and it runs behind it, there were 3 cables going up to the loft , so they wouldn’t have fit in the patress if I’d tried
Given the age of the house those floor tiles in the kitchen under the ply would more than likely have contained Asbestos - no PPE when taking them up Nick ! SMH ..... first rule of thumb is always check for ACM in any house that dates back pre 2000.
Takes longer to put up, poorer IP rating and more expensive than actual trunking or even the conduit that they should have used! Decent mechanical protection though, particularly if combined with galv capping - wonder what its IK rating is.
That's what I thought, I know it's only a little bit of the "not as bad" asbestos, but still it's better to not inhale any if possible. Be careful Nick!

Fair play for even taking on a rewire in a habitable house , I don’t even consider it these days , too much hassle with carpets and furniture.
Cracking video again Nick and Adam. Bit of advice get yourself and Adam on an Asbestos course especially if your working in old properties 👍
