How to fix Honda Fit start engine issue (2015)/ immobilizer anti-theft system failure

  • I was experiencing the start engine issues with my Honda Fit 2015 for months. It usually takes 10-20 presses on the push button before the engine can get started. In the meantime, the immobilizer indicator light also stays on after the engine when the engine is running. So I guess the push-button issue is related to the immobilizer anti-theft system. Before going to the dealer, I gave it a last try by disconnecting the battery. And it works.
Please note that this is a temporary fix. If the problem happens again, you should consider replacing the push start button. Contact Honda dealer for more information. It seems that they have extended the warranty for this part to nine years.

Dudes! You da men! My 2015 Fit's start/key indicator light has been popping on and off for months. Sometimes it would stay on for a few days, and then it would not show up for a month, or it would alternate days for week or so. I knew about the recall because I got a letter from Honda last year. In the past few days, however, the light has come on and stayed on, and it now takes three or four button pushes to get it started.
I knew I was on borrowed time, but I had to take my dog for a ride for an evaluation for service dog training. Couldn't miss it. So I went online to see if there was some alternate way to start the car if it refused to start (thinking maybe the hidden key in fob had a secret ignition switch somewhere or old scrolls that you can use to banish auto-demons and gremlins. Nope. Nothing like that.
I was sure I was going to be walking home, you know...down the road kicking stones with a pissed-off puppy dragging ass behind me.
Then I saw your post with a title...that exactly described my problem!! I watched and thought this is way too simple to be true. But, lo and behold, it worked perfectly! One-push start. and no indicator light!
You guys saved the day for me AND my dog!
p.s. Got any miracles like this for a 1974 Jeep CJ-5?

I tried this method for Honda City 2017-18 model but didn't work out. I removed battery connections for 4-5 hours.

Honda has admitted to numerous starter failures below 50k miles on the car and also has a recall for the stop/start engine switch in 2015 FITS. Comments on FitFreak forums also suggest brake sensor as a possible cause for the 2015 FIT.

Oh, it purrrr like a cat after battery has been disconnected and reconnected. Probably changing status from "Honda Fit" to Honda UnFit, if you clean your battery (on the outside.)

Hi, I have a problem When try to turn on engine start/stop button. Need to press it multiple times.
I was going to buy the full start/stop button ( cylinder). But i Don't want to buy it for nothing. I have the same situation As the video. Any suggestions

Yes, remove the entire push button from your center console. Then open up the push start cylinder and clean the wire contact point with alcohol. Buy a new push button if you don't want to clean and reuse the old one. After market part costs around $50. Good luck and God bless!
