He’s splicing vocal samples together to tell stories and when you just listen to it like a conversation and not rap lyrics they make sense (in there own way) But it’s hard to switch gears from dense rap lyrics to cartoon samples of shows you may not have ever seen before.

    Great video JD
    I personally like this album more than Madvillainy. I wouldn’t argue with anyone over which is a BETTER album but I love how on this record you can tell each track had a concept going into it whereas Madvillainy is mostly a bar fest aside from a handful of them. Also a big plunderphonics fan so the interludes and stuff are super interesting even still after playing this album to death.
    If you want my opinion on where to go next with DOOM there’s no wrong pick. My 3rd favourite record of his would probably be Born Like This because DOOM has a huskier voice with age and the beats go so hard on a lot of the tracks, probably his most VILLAINOUS record. Produced mainly by DOOM but there’s a Madlib beat, and a handful by Jake One and Dilla. J Dilla’s beats don’t go to waste I can tell you that much. The only track that hasn’t aged super well is Batty Boyz but it is still funny in the context of making fun of super heroes for wearing tights. He goes a bit hard with the gay punchlines tho, ain’t so PC 11 years later.
    You’d probably really enjoy Viktor Vaughn’s debut Vaudeville Villain. Just six months before Madvillainy he released his first project under this new alias. Viktor is basically a young gangster DOOM. I don’t really have much to say about this record aside from that he kills it with the bars the whole way through, a bit more direct with his pen than DOOM. The Open Mic Nite skits are pretty funny the first times but grow a bit old over time. Still one of his best albums, he was just on fire at the time.
    Can’t go wrong with 2003’s Take Me To Your Leader by King Geedorah which is another alias DOOM goes by. All the tracks except the first one were produced by him. I wouldn’t say it’ll be your favourite since there are some more thematic tracks that don’t have any rapping on them, and the man himself only raps on 5 tracks. The features don’t slack though, still a top 5 album from him.

    DB Cooper was the pseudonym of an unidentified man who hijacked a Boeing 727 aircraft in United States airspace between Portland and Seattle in 1971. The man purchased his airline ticket using the alias Dan Cooper but, because of a news miscommunication, became known in popular lore as D. B. Cooper. He extorted $200,000 in ransom (equivalent to $1,260,000 in 2019) and parachuted to an uncertain fate. Despite an extensive manhunt and protracted FBI investigation, the perpetrator has never been located or identified. It remains the only unsolved case of air piracy in commercial aviation history.
    DOOM's got references like a professional researcher.

    From what I've heard, DOOM has this sort of point system he uses when writing his verses. Different types of rhyme schemes, connections, and general flow and line structure are assigned different point values, and he designs each verse or stanza to meet his point goal. So even though his flow is constantly changing, the fact that the stanzas have the same point total and that the points force him to get creative with internal and connected rhymes allow it to feel significantly more consistent and natural.

    It's strange how many of us were thinking about DOOM these last few months as if we all felt it happen.
    What a wild thought to have him gone
    RIP

      Exactly! I'm a flutist and usually play jazz/funk/prog stuff but for the past couple of weeks I just wanted to play along to a bunch of DOOM tracks for some reason. Especially the Abstract Orchestra's instrumental versions of ALL CAPS and other classics. Also spent Christmas listening to nothing but Christmas themed DOOM remixes. I'm heartbroken..

  • @MRCSANY
    @MRCSANY 2 года назад

    The Skit tracks in the middle contain some cool stuff.
    “Poo-Putt Platter” has an amazing instrumental, sampled from Fat Albert!
    “Filet-O-Rapper” takes specific samples talking about “Just what I need...something healthy like beets (beats)!”
    In “Gumbo” there are certain samples that talk about edible wrappers, obviously used in the context of the album as a double meaning for fake rappers with paper-thin covers (edible).
    “Fig Leaf Bicarbonate” has a sample at around the middle where a lady reads off her notes about certain food coloring dyes approved by the FDA being poison and the people listening act surprised, again going with the food metaphor of the album.

    It's a shame no one can find the original Kookies with that Sesame Street sample. Fit the song a lot better imo. If you have a chance definitely check out Vaudeville Villain.

  • @erogames3883
    @erogames3883 3 года назад

    such a shame you didn't spend more time with the skits. i really think those skits are the core of the album and really bind the concept of the entire record together there. the series of skits uses a bunch of food metaphors to talk about hip hop and rap and other rappers using food as an metaphor for the rap scene. everything in the "true" songs points back to those skits. its bloody brilliant if you ask me.

  • @byHexted

    You might recognize the sample from Bastard Tyler the creator but obviously he used it from this song bc he was a huge DOOM fan and sampled multiple songs of his

  • @jasonlucas4913
    @jasonlucas4913 Год назад

    DOOM was as much producer as he was rapper. The skits are to flex his creative flexibility while giving a narrative tying each track together. You're trying to take a concept album, meant to be digested like a meal, and only appreciate single courses right away.
