As for the missing tie piece, I’d recommend installing a brass grommet like the canvas tarps from way back when. Then instead of using a shoe lace, use some Apocacord so that you have extra line and other survival related inner cordage if the need arises.
I just opened my welcome box and this was inside and let me tell you I am over the moon excited to start putting it together thank you so much Creek sir and god bless.
PLEASE READ TO THE END! I also have 2 of the original kits from WW2. Took me a long time to make one complete. Can’t believe that you made a replica for us, Creek! You are amazing! I have gone out by boat in the Gulf of Mexico fishing with the kit and caught fish successfully, and quickly. You worked so hard to copy everything. Brilliant. Here’s some extra history if you’re interested. The fishing kit was sealed in a metal can and included in the six man life raft survival kit. During WW2 training classes for naval aviators took place at naval air stations. At the naval air station in Pensacola there was a survival museum with life size dioramas of an Arctic survival scene and a Tropical survival scene. There was a small sized survival manual for the downed flyer as well as a book sized manual for instructors. The instructor’s manual includes a photo of the fishing kit that Creek has reconstructed for us. The pilot’s manual was prepared by the Smithsonian Institution, the instructor’s manual by the legendary Frank and John Craighead, wildlife biologists for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. If, as a kid, you ever read books like My Side of the Mountain, or Julie of the Wolves, these were written by their sister, Jean Craighead George. Happy to supply more info if people are interested. Creek, if you read this and don’t already have them I’ll send you the manuals. Again, thank you for all the hard work and creativity you put into these kits for us.
"My Side of the Mountain"was THE book that got me into this self-reliance and survival bushcraft genres, 42 yrs ago. Falconry is the only thing left on the bucket list
Being an avid caster (I can't say fisher because that involves fish and I don't catch fish), and big on bushcraft/survival stuff (imagine that, I subscribe to apocabox), I love this kit. It will find a home in my bug out vehicle.
I'm really disappointed I didn't get in in this one that thing is awesome to me it would seem fun searching out stuff like that but I imagine it's tough on a deadline
You don't send boxes to Canada. However, I am trying to work out a FB deal with a guy who is selling a good number of your kits if he is willing to ship to me. Wish me luck! Going to dig into your Bug Out Vest book next. I am currently using a sleeveless BDU shirt as well as a fishing vest. I do have a RIBZ Front Pack as well as the light FLC vest with Tactical Tailor pouches on it. Just bought the Non Com pdf too. Thanks a bunch!

Sounds like you’re all set!!!
The snag hook can a;so be used to "fish" critters out of their dens. ONLY in a survival situation!! Bait as needed.
So true!!!
You would definitely survive an apocalypse 💥
