    Probably one of the most realist, functional, any guy can fix, spare parts all over the place, BUG OUT TRUCK I have seen. I am so sick of 70K bug out trucks on youtube. That is so unreal to the average dude. Good work and GOD BLESS.

    CUCVs are awesome rigs! The one thing that you should know is that that engine will last forever. The Preventive Checks, Maintenance, and Service (PMCS) was done EVERY TIME that it was started. Plus, being a military rig, the specs are far higher than a civilian vehicle. Nice build

    Love the truck, only concern I would have is the side mounted fuel cans, getting torn off in tight spaces.

    Enjoyed your presentation! Remember the creed of all preps, one is none and two is one and 6 spares is dandy!!!!

    Those old military trucks are great. They've got a super tough, 1.25-ton drive line, a 14-bolt rear axle that already has a Detroit Locker installed, one of the toughest automatic transmissions ever made and a 6.2 liter diesel that, while not a powerhouse (understatement!), is EMP-proof, gets reasonably good fuel mileage and can run on some pretty crappy grades of diesel. Better yet they almost never have very many miles on them, at least not when you get them surplus. They're great candidates for a bug-out vehicle.
    I'd put the spare tire & the fuel cans on the rear bumper, and put the winch in the middle so that it's not trying to drag you sideways all the time.

    Good video of your BOV! I have a 1984 one ton Chevy BOV with complete gear load out! I even put in faraday cages for EMP or CME protection! My BOV tuck was a old military truck as well with CB and lots of extras. The old trucks are hard as nails! I want to see a 2000 model running in 35+ years! The new trucks are overpriced computerized pushbutton shutdownable junk. I have a 1978 stepside ford F-100 4X4 truck with a 300 inline six cylinder engine with a Borg Warner T18 standard transmission that I drive everyday. This truck has 4000 thousand miles and still going strong! I got a new engine sitting in the garage if this one ever goes out. I got 3 spare tires in mine and a fiberglass topper full of gear & goodies!

    you are going to experience grief when you use that winch for the first time. at best it will rip your bull bar off or at worst warp your chassis.

    6.2l Chevy very dependable, not fast just dependable owned a few way easier to work on than modern electronic controlled powerplants. You say its not pretty man ,pigs win beauty contest and if that's the case ,that rig is a blue ribbon winner for sure.love your set up and the old school swampers you can't go wrong ,the traction and clean out of those tires are unbeatable. Thanks for sharing ,way better than these young kids rigs that never been off the pavement. Keep trying to tell them chrome won't get you home, but they will learn.thanks again

    Spare tires should already be on rims.!.
    Gas cans are in the wrong place for cross country & tires can be on top - all 6 or just 2 mounted on the front w/ a patch kit (includes inner tubes) & air pump. ... Along w/ side window compartments, I use slide out compartments in the back & they hold a lot of tools w/ easy access and free up space for loading equipment.... My work truck is 80% ready for a bug out, just add food, water, gun & a chain saw........ & lots of bullets

    Carry extra starter bolts. They use to brake a lot. Also either ether or a gas soaked rag in a jar. Held in front of the intake if the glow plugs start to go out.

    I love seeing everyone else's idea of a truck yours is ok and on track. That diesel was problematic though having owned one or 2, I finally found a 89F250 w 7.3 idi and low miles like 50K low, its ugly as the day is long but with both tanks and my spare plastic I can get to my location easily and fairly comfortable on minor roads.

    like your truck, my question how would it do after an EMP, we are looking for an older 4x4 for a bug-out vehicle, but wonder about the electronics of your truck.

    • @carlspackler5013
      @carlspackler5013 8 лет назад +1

      +Allen Brown That truck should not have any essential solid state electronics that would be effected by an EMP.

    you might be better served with a sleeping area and more camping gear than those 6 spare tires. a few of those didn't look to be in any kind of serviceable shape nor did they match the size of the mounted tires. ever sat in a bar stool with on short leg? now drive it offroad. really cool truck though, I like the diy.

  • @elliothagen9874

    Not bad. The winch should be in the middle. Gas cans should be on the doors not the fenders. The front spare should on top of the truck cap.
