As a Canadian I love this, the dad of a buddy of mine was trapped for a couple days above the arctic circle, blizzard, -60c to -70c. Him and his friend survived those conditions in a snow cave they built, warmed with their body heat. Also having a candle burning is the equivalent of another person's body heat in a snow shelter, just throwing that out there. Could save someone's life. Great content man
Always look forward to seeing you every Sunday . Been watching you for years, learn something new every time. Reminds me of the snow forts we did as a kid, keep them coming!!
I swear, if I ever wanna watch a good makeshift camping shelter vid the Corporals Corner is the place to go. This man gets real creative w his shelters and I respect it.
I don't believe people understand the value of your content. It is literally a free how to keep your a-- alive tutorial. I use at least 4 knots I learned from you and Canterbury every time I'm out hunting. Not to mention the minimalist emergency shelter kit I've added to my bag that I adapted from you two as well. This channel is amazing AF.👍🏻
That was "cool" AF! Great episode of overnight survival camping with Corporal's Corner. This reminded me of all the snow forts I built in the '70s as a kid in northern NJ.
These vids are the best. A few items, keeping it simple and reasonable. These seem like the structures people are realistically going to build if out in the woods unintentionally for a day or two. Awesome winter wonderland!
Well done Shawn!! Never disappointed in your presentation. Nothing like a little freeze out to check yourself on self reliance. Appreciate how you keep the faith.
Now that is an excellent example of an emergency shelter in heavy snow. As a Canadian this resonates with my survival concerns in the winter. Thank you!
This is the one I personally have been waiting for. Your shelter was built precisely and elegantly. Over here in Connecticut the scene is just like where you shot your video. I also enjoy your culinary segment. It always is a hearty mans type meal. Your videos are never wasted on me. Enjoy every one.
Very clever setup. The build and the reflective tarps really trapped that body heat. I am always super happy when there is a longer ending, the take down. Thanks for being there and sharing your outings.
The mystique of 'tent camping' in the snow as most of us as kids wanted to do. Kelly, you took me back to my childhood with this video. I thank you for that. I enjoyed every second of your achievement. 👍👍
It’s Sunday, Corporals Corner Time, German Military training time. A really cold and survival shelter. I love the food. Thank you for this great teaching and I hope you don’t fought an cold. God bless and respectfully Marco, Vielen Danke für diese Ausbildung, Weiterbildung. God bless
Marco Dhur 😁, my dad was stationed at Sheerstein Air Force Base😊, and I was born in Wiesbaden Germany❤️. It's very cool to hear a commenter from a country I was born in. God bless all💯🙏👍👍
Marco, the German folk are some of the kindest, even the Schwabishe! Once they get to know you, they are fantastic people. We tried so hard to learn German while stationed there, the whole family. My youngest went to German kindergarten. I still correspond with the Great German friends we made! The Very Best…Bill
Great as always sir! My son loves watching "camping guy" with me on Sunday evenings. Cant wait to take him to our farm and try some of your content out.
Appreciate all the time and hard work that goes into these videos, learnt so much from watching your content. Outstanding as always. Road to a million subs now lets go!
Brother, you never cease to amaze me. Rightnow I'm in Northeastern Ohio looking at 18inches of fresh snow in my backyard with a stack of covered aged firewood out behind the garage and shed.. its 21 degrees with a slight wind and I am tempted to go out and construct horseshoe shaped tarped snow shelter. Thanks Shawn for how you inspire, answer the mail and execute out of the box. If you did it in 2 hours.. it'll take me 4 first time... man, I really admire you.
Being able to create interesting content every week is one thing, but to improvise and provide the same quality videos we’re used to watching is outstanding. Another great video and as always, Semper Fi!
Good morning, Mr Kelly! I don’t think I’ll ever purposely go out camping in snow like this, but at least with your guidance, I’ll be somewhat prepared if I ever find myself in a situation. Also, I love that you get up and enjoy breakfast/coffee and don’t just rush right out after waking.
I like knowing how long it takes to build the shelter. This type of shelter could come in handy in an emergency. I certainly wouldnt want to spend more than a couple hours building a shelter in an emergency situation. The steak and eggs looked delicious.
This reminds of being a kid, & after big snows & the snow plow came, we dug out an entire tunnel system with rooms. We poured water to freeze our rooms... It was great! Then my dad came home and broke them up! I guess he thought they would collapse on us. But I loved it in there! Warm, & fun.
When the storm came, I was like " I hope the Corporal is going to do a snow shelter instead of his original plan" and of course you deliver! Love this shit man!! Stay safe and keep your head on a swivel.
Trips me out every time I see you tie a bowline! I have been a professional mariner for 25 years and never seen it tied that way. Like I said before, I always learn something!
My favorite time of year to go camping is winter time. If you can insulate yourself from the cold ground and block the wind you can stay warm. Great job corporal love your videos keep it up.
Planned or unplanned, you never disappoint. I've always wondered how you'd approach an emergency winter situation, and now I know! Made perfect sense to me. Til next time, carry on!
This. Shawn, exactly what I’ve been looking for. A couple tips: If one didn’t have the extra reflective tarp under the sleeping pad, one could have chopped off some low furred spruce branches and laid them out lengthwise on the shelter floor, then spread a couple drum liners on top to block moisture, and then add the pad. As for the air inlet and outlet, if one wanted to cut down the speed of the wind going in, put a right angle bend in both ways. You still get ventilation, but also get better temp control. If you are a hunter or know a hunter, get a big deer hide tanned on one side and leave the hair on the other side. Put this on top of the sleeping pad or underneath for extra insulation resulting in more warmth and no body heat sucked away by the cold ground. It is even possible to waterproof the tanned side by impregnating it with a suitable silicon product. Use 2 or 3 of these hides and you will be warm and comfortable. Thanks for the timely video!
I feel guilty sitting here at the desk while you're lying in the snow! Ridgeline without trees (I'm in the desert) and an emergency blanket sandwich - learned something today! Awesome instruct-able Corporal!
I have enjoyed watching your videos for a very long time.. U don't see a lot of individuals who are still in the military or retired military want to teach others how to survive in cold weather.. CPL Kelly, Thank U for your service, your training & your support to your Military.. You're taking your time teach us is greatly appreciated.. I do need to ask, how do U clean your 108 yr old steel pan out?? I saw U wiping it out with a white cloth.. Again Thank U... 🌞👍👍☕☕
Outstanding AF, great video. The “corporals microwave” using the reflective materials on the emergency tarps was great. Love that using Mother Natures surprise snow storm to the fullest, I am sure working with that fluffy snow was a challenge. Keep up the good work.
I've used jet stoves to heat tents in the winter. It won't make it warm, but it definitely takes the edge off. I think it would work well in this shelter.
My memories of cold come in two varieties: At work at Chanute AFB, and as a kid in central Pennsylvania with nearly no kit in a formerly clear cut pine forest. The ramp was colder, but the nights in the woods held a lot more fear, and a lot more effort needed. Your snow videos are so nostalgic, many thanks!
Missed the video drop so I'm playing catch up. I really appreciate the pivot and "shifting gears." That flexibility along with your content quality is a big part of why folks keep coming back. Thanks for continuing to produce these videos.
Finding natural resources for emergency shelter building is always a concern. Snow is one of the best resources as you'll most likely never run out of it depending on where you live. Here in upstate New York we could build a skyscraper out of the stuff. It's insulating properties are grossly underestimated. I remember building snow forts and caves as a kid and they were always warm. Steak and eggs for breakfast. How can you beat that....even out in the cold? Cool AF! Thanks Corp. I always learn a little something from every one of your videos. As for it not getting any easier.....give it a few more years.
Gotta say, I dig what you do my dude. A couple weeks ago when you mentioned your views and view Time, I felt it when you said 10/30 and 10/20 but still keeping it 20. If you shaved off even 5 more minutes, where would all that good chow be for the rest of us! We recently started getting that bacon ranch chicken skillet you had awhile back, although months before I even knew of your channel. Seeing you enjoy it in the middle of nowhere made it all the more satisfying to also enjoy your experience. P.S. in the 18 minutes I guarantee I watched: your view count went up ~11k, so you're definitely doing something right!
Thanks for taking the time to show us these skills. Even more so today not knowing what going to happening from day to day. The hard work that goes into each setup. Thanks for not giving up on teaching your skills to others!
Good idea putting that second reflective tarp down on the ground and making like a bathtub floor, that will reflect more of your body heat back to you. 👍
Excellent shelter, couldn't tell you didn't plan this build. Personal thought, a few videos back you bushcraft a candle holder, one of those and a small candle would have really warmed you up, don't ya think? GOD BLESS and stay safe!
C.C, one thing would have been interesting, if you took the temp outside than inside after an hour had gone by. Or the next morning as well. Just to see how much your body heat had warmed the shelter. I saw your Holiday video and the hot tent video as well. Well Done as always.
Ok so since finding yuh our channel I've been binge watching them and even tho I'm a 56 year old woman who totally believes in survival prepping and homesteading I've been learning alot from you on shelters but I wanna know where you are that when you dig in the ground there are no stones or rocks? Where I live in upstate NY I can't dig down 3 inches without hitting rocks. Trying to plant trees and till the garden is oh so much fun. Thanks for your videos keep them coming
It was the same way in the mountains of Pa where I used to live, but i'm in Ky now, and the earth is all clay, and you can dig it easily. Location location location.
When we lived in the Pa mountains which is super rocky, my wife planted her gardens in garden boxes. It alleviated the rock problem. Now putting the fence up for her around it.......
I can help yyou with the bag fill. If you stand with your heels on the edge, hold the top open with 1 hand and scrape the snow in with the other. I do leaves that way. You could also just use a tarp to carry the snow. Same principal as the bag.
Survivor Man with Les Stroud used to be my favorite all time thing to watch. The knowledge of survival, the editing skills, and all around entertaining content, you sir, make some great content, and are my new favorite content creator. You deserve your own tv show. Ah, yes! The three emergency tarp snow trench. Used it every time we went to the field in Alaskan winters. Mine were OD rather than international orange. It is all good for cold rainy conditions with only slight nodificationas well. Thank you for the trip down memory lane!
Those tarp emergency blankets really do keep your warm inside I've used them to help bundle up in extreme temperatures I'm a truck driver with sketchy bunk heater. I put it under a layer of blanket for comfort on top of my bunk mattress covered with my regular blankets with the tarp emergency blanket wrapped around all of the layers like a burrito 🌯. I was comfortable like that at -10. I use a variety of regular and camping blankets now and a 20 degree rated sleeping bag, but those emergency blanket tarps are no joke. I need to get more and put one in every family members car.
As one of the few who made it through US Army Winter Warfare School, I learned that in extreme cold weather, the most important piece of equipment is a positive attitude.
Outstanding video, Sir! Straightforward snow survival shelter! Simple enough to make it practical in a genuine emergency. Gonna keep that one in mind. Thank you!
How you do you carry Eggs out to the field without cracking them what kind of storage containers do you have and how do you prevent your meat from spoiling what is your process of carrying food out of the field
Another great video and you are truly a survivalist. I’m learning so much from your video. My husband and two boys we love camping in the woods. I’m taking notes and always watch your videos more than once. Hubby is ex military also and I also learn from him. Keep the videos coming. Thanks again.
Can you make a survival video in very humid and hot weather like the Everglades? I’d like to learn some more about camping in very hot and humid conditions.
Your videos are awesome We don’t see snow on this concrete jungle but your videos are educational and simple to understand..I was in the hospital waiting for the food and I ordered a steak when I got home lol keep it up Thank you for making those videos..
I will say lessons learned in blood, it may be worthy while camping in snow/ice conditions beware of making fires under uncertain rock ledges or outcroppings, here in WV I know of people dying from shifting rocks or boulders loosened by heat of fire melting the ice that expanded and cracked the fault lines in rock structure.
It looks like you are wearing a bloody good wool jacket. I've checked you links but can't see where you got it from. Where did you get it? Are they readily available?
As always, a great clip. Are you going to do a review of your new wool coat? I'm really interested in it but it's a lot of $$$. Living on the SW WA coast we wear a lot of synthetics that shed rain. But you sweat like a pig and they tend to get burn holes from being around fires. Yes wool is king, but I'd like to hear your opinion. Thanks and safe travels.
I love watching the corporal I've learned so much even though I'm a country girl he keeps adding to my knowledge and I want to go camping even though I'm 72 I've got my kit ready to go with my Jeep but nobody to go with hope it doesn't come down to me going alone maybe someday I'll find somebody that wants to go with me I put some of this knowledge to you thanks corporal keep it up you doing a great job

The only thing I would add is maybe used the trash bags as extra flooring to insulate against the snow or as a door way.
I thought fir a minute there, he was going to use one of them as a bottom baggie, and pull it on like pants over his bottom half...😂🤣😂

is it gas heater in the shelter ? at 15:00 min voice is like heater near
@@1kuzgun1 seems like that would cause carbon monoxide poisoning in such a small space doesn’t it?
@@1kuzgun1 , to me, the ventilation seems adequate but a heater unnecessary. Snow is a surprisingly good insulator.

@@recall5811 sweet I’ll check it out, love the channel. Thanks for the entertainment and knowledge.
I really like how you are enjoying yourself and teaching us, too. And that steak looked delicious!
Hell nah brother, it isn’t getting any easier hahahaha. Semper Fi, 91-95 3/1 India Co. Hats off to you for keepin on!
01-04 1/4 H&S, Semper Fi!
3yrs watching your videos still awesome AF thank you.
Now here's a man that knows how to start a fire. Thank you!
if you had a 9 hour candle that thing would be so warm you would have had to get a break from the heat
😂😎🤣 "It's not getting any easier." I used to love the snow...then I got to 70.... 😳
Outstanding video! I no longer use sleeping bags, I'm a big proponent of wool blankets.
