So I just tried this. The part about cutting yourself, yeah, for real though. The metal is sharp as shit. I cut my finger. Make sure to use sand paper on the edges and the bent part that goes the furthest back in the camera. If you don't sand that bit at the back you will scratch your photos really badly. I've made cardboard versions of this that break after one use. Glad I have something with more longevity. Thanks for the video.
i love this video so much, especially the creativity that went into this, but as a beginner like me, I found it quite hard to do this. I had to constantly skip back a few seconds to get a 2 sec glimpse of what you were doing before it cut to a shot of your face. It would have been better and clearer, as a viewer to see the process entirely, narrated step by step, with cautionary advices. Nonetheless, I applaud your creativity and look forward to clearer narration. Thank you!
Thank you so much!! I've been looking for a technique for double exposures on polaroids for so long! Anytime I try and research it tons and tons of tutorials for the instax mini come up, but never any for an SX-70.
Very nice trick! You can also slide a dummy frame with the image part cut out on top of the image you’re gonna expose. This way when the first pic is took, only the dummy frame is expelled and you can take another shot!
tried that too but, the frame stability is not good enough to put it in place. i prefer the aluminum that just slides into place ;) and you can take as many exposures as you want. Also dont forget the frame is not that thin so you get slighlty out of focus.
Hi Marco, wonderful idea, i will try¡ you can also open the camera at the moment you release the shutter. The film moves 5mm but it´s still inside and when you close the camera, you can shot the second one
You're my new favorite channel!!! I just bought my Polaroid onestep 2 camera online, I'm a complete newbie when it comes to cameras but watching your channel is giving me confidence with my purchase & with just using one in general. I'm so exited to get my new camera and use it now!!!
I love you! I'm searching a working method from months! Once I used to get a card board strip, but with new cartridge it doesn't work anymore! Just a question: can this method spoil the camera in some way?
ohh thanks ;) If you don't mess up super bad and i have no idea how that would be possible their is no harm for the camera, since that is the basic mechanism happening with every empty pack of film. The only thing happening is the hook sliding over our tool and snapping back in place, and the rollers running empty without an image between them.
I've done it where you just pre-open where the film goes and then after you take the shot just drop it down so its fully open and the camera won't fully push out the shot - so If you put your finger in front of where the film comes out it will full stop it....it's way easier! Good video as always though!
The first 2 I did, but now - nope! Just takes practice. You're right though...If you don't want to mess up at all, do your method. Your method works great too!
Multiple Exposure is a really creative and awesome way to shoot photo. Unfortunately, SQ10 by Fujifilm doesn't have real multiple exposure (it just layer two images). Thus, I buy a Lomo'instant Square. Thanks for share the way for Polaroid cameras.
Really enjoyed this video! Already built one for me and my friend. Just have to test it. I was wondering if you have ever looked into making an external 6V battery pack for the Polaroid 600 or SX-70 so you could shoot I-type with those cameras?
haven't done it myself but i have seen a few people doing it lately, but you have to drill through the camera, need to get some old test cams to try it out.
Hi, I just discovered your channel as I was doing some research about different things you can do with the frames. I was just getting tot know my onestep2 when I accidently made a double exposed picture. I thought it was possible to let the picture develop in the camera by turning it off (while holding the shutter) so you wouldn't have to put it somewhere dark and safe. But it didn't came out when I turned the camera back on ,so I took another shot and it came out double exposed. I thought it was a mistake but now I know that this is a another technique to take pictures. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!
What an amazing diy video! I was looking for a double exposure technique for a normal Polaroid camera! I am most certainly going to make one myself soon!
Thanks for the information on how to make the tool to create the double exposure. I have made this but I can not get the tool to stay on the left and it covers the film. Also I have had issue with exposing the film in the bottom left corner which I assume is from inserting the tool? Any further insights or tips please 🙏🏻
Thank you for this information. I’m just getting back into photography after injury and I’ve been thinking about The Polaroid SX70 - my daughter is looking at the 600 Close-up One Shot and this is a technique I’m very interested in teaching her
Hi, thanks so much for all your tutorials ! This way of making double exposure pictures is much more user-friendly than any other technique I've seen so far on internet. I'm getting familiarized with polaroids cameras, and I was wondering if your technique also works for a lightmixer 630 ? (I don't see why it wouldn't, but I just want to make sure!) Cheers !
9:07 How come, when you close the camera, it doesn’t spit out the film like when you load a fresh pack of film in and the dark slide comes out? I have an SX-70 and mine always does that haha.
I think it's because he doesn't remove the film cardridge from the camera. I just tried with my 600 same thing, and it didn't spit out the film. I don't have a SX-70, so I don't know how much it differs tehnically from the 600 cameras..
it's because the cartride was already inside but if you would add the tool before you insert the new pack it would also not be able to throw out the darkslide
My gramps was a huge polaroid fan all the pics he took were with his Land camera and a Onestep closeup like you have in this vid! I just dug both of them out and got a 4pack of 600 film. I was wondering if this could be done with my camera and it can! This leaves me with a question after you said to measure the width of the tool. Using this method would it be possible to insert a mask then expose and remove as you would like? Like maybe 4 quadrants with the mask then a 5th as an overall exposure. Great video definitely trying this out.
Brilliant. Thanks for this :). Did you do a video of taking double exposures? I’ve looked on your channel and can’t seem to find one. If I haven’t missed it on your channel when I looked then I for one would really appreciated it, if you get time to do one. Great channel you have by the way and look forward to more of your videos.

Hi! Thanks for the tutorial! Realy helpful. My question: is the "multiple exposure maker" metal thing made out of an SX-70 film casette is working with a 600 camera, or I have to make it out of a 600 film casette? Thanks!
I have a 600 one step express Hunter green Polaroid. I am wondering if it will work for this camera as well. I really want to start double exposures in June for my nieces graduation
I know this is an old video but man, what a great tutorial! I was able to make the double exposure device no problem, thank you! The question I have is, how do you avoid light leaks using this?? I’ve tried it twice now and both times I have massive light leaks from the stick side of the film. I even tried painting the stick black and still I get tons of light leaking in. Any tips??
I have the same issue, massive light leaks no matter what I do. Think the only option is to go into a pitch black room or use like a darkroom bag when putting in or removing the tool. Gonna try that and see if I have any luck. Let me know if you fixed this though
Hi thank you for the Nice video about double exposure. My question is : i have the instax mini 90 net Classic. And i want to make Nice double exposure. With picture needs to be the forst shot ? The landscape and than the portret ? And what about the lightning I hope you can answer My question. Thnx anyway. Chantalle from The Netherlands
Hi! First of all, I just discover your channel and your videos only a few days ago and i want to say that i love how you explain tips and tricks about this fantastic world of analog photography. Thank you for all your fantastic videos. I would like to ask you a question: I have a OneStep 2 and i tried the double exposure just like you suggest to do. It works great but a stranger thing happened: after i took the second exposure, the camera expelled the film but all of the led of the remaining films turned on! I already did a photo before the test with double exposure so two of the 8 led should have been off. Did ever happend to you? I'm worried about the correct functioning of the camera now.
Does it really matter with the new 600 film that you get in in the dark asap? I’m really anal about getting the pic into a pocket or dark room and I’m wondering if people have ever done a side by side comparison to a pic developed in pure light and a pic developed in a pocket. Thanks !
I have another trick that is not quite as reliable but very easy. When you take your first shot you have to be ready with another finger on the door release so that as soon as the shutter closes you open the door so the picture doesn't go through the rollers. Then you push it back in and do the second one like normal. Sometimes it's hard to get the picture to push in all the way because it goes above the lip in the back. But it usually works.
Hey quick question, on the packaging of the Polaroid original film, it says to store in a cold place, like a fridge i imagine. Do you guys do this with your film? How do you guys store your film?
yeah all my film is stored in the fridge, so not alot of place for food left :) I'm planing a video on storage and usage after long time for the future.
I just got my first Polaroid today it's a one step 600 close up from Urban outfitters and I'm so excited and I've been watching all you're videos and I have to say great content you are great with explaining things.
Hi, I would like to use a Polaroid film to expose a screen to it. I see you know how they work very well, How could I do this? So I would need to buy the film, make the room very dark, take out one film from the pack stick it to the screen and set the screen to light up an image for 0.1 seconds. Would this work? I see that there are some rollers which push out ink, do I need to push this out manually but still while the room is dark? Are there any films that would work without to have ink pushed out? Would appreciate your input.
by screen are you talking about a lcd screen? all instant films need some process to roll out the chemicals over the negative this is a pretty crucial part and can't be done by hand since you need absolutly even pressure, but its no problem to insert the frame back in a filmpack and let the camera do the work
@@AnalogThings thanks, will check it out. What I've been trying to do is to reach out to all sorts of strangers here at home in London to let them see the awesomeness of film and so far I've been using my TLR to catch people's eyes. If I could get hold of instant film one day cheaply for my Mamiya, I could give the photos I take to the strangers so they can appreciate it even more and get more people into the wonders of film! Thanks for showing me this! I will definitely support these guys
Hey! I have a polaroid 600 and I just attempted this technique for the first time. I tested it with one shot left on my roll in case I screwed it up but I think the battery couldn't handle more than the 10 available shots and stopped firing after the shot numbers ended. Does that happen to you? I've never had any problems with my camera and now I'm a bit worried I've messed it up for good.
I know that works for 600 cameras, but i haven't had the best experience with it ... light leaks or wasn't able to push the film back, with this tool i feel better when shooting old film and know that i dont waste a frame
Can you light paint with polaroid? I happened to be on the Polaroid Originals website, looking at the I-type film, when I noticed one of the photos had a heart drawn with light on it and a woman sitting in the middle. How did they create that effect? Does anyone know?
i have to take a look at that exact image but, yeah you can lightpaint with them. one way would be to cover the lightmeter of the camera to give you longer exposure times. the other would be with the time machine from MiNT camera.
An easier method would be opening the front hatch with the rollers just after taking the shot, so it cant get all the way through. You then have to push the frame all the way back into the camera with a creditcard or similar. Only tried it with my last shot tho.
Do you know how to make “copy” Polaroids? For example, I’ve seen around that you can buy Polaroids of famous musician like Lana Del Ray or Halsey, and it’ll come in an actual fujifilm print, but they’re obviously reproduced photos (I think you can buy, for example, 5 Polaroids of the same celebrity picture). Do you think you know how they might do it? Maybe have the right exposure from a screen or projector projected into the lens? Or maybe I’m just crazy haha
not crazy at all :) for polaroids the could use thr instantlab for fuji the sq10 would be an option, but you could also expose directly onto the image or just take a photo of a projection or something like this, a ton of different ways
I cant press the double exposure maker into the camera more than half of it. I tried several times now and I always checked whether i put it over the first frame, although I did, I couldnt put it in. But its really easy to put it between 1st and 2nd picture?! Could someone please help me? :)
I tried it now, works in a film pack outside the camera but not inside the camera. Since I got a little desperate, I now ordered the One Step + and will switch to that from my vintage camera 😂. Thanks 4 your response!
Wait wait, you can damage the camera if you press the shutter button with no film in it?! Oh man, I've done that quite a lot after I shot my first pack because I wanted to train myself to try and shoot more still :/
Nice idea, but you’ve gone much too quickly through the steps needed to cut out and bend the device. It would have been great if you had just added in a few still images of each step in cutting and again at each step in the bending of the piece. A measurement or three would also be helpful. All that said, the principal is straight forward so hopefully a bit of trial and error will help.
I have seen a trick: What the guy did was: Instead of releasing the shitter button after taking a shot, he just kept on pressing it so the film didnt eject and upon pressing it still, he turned it off and voila! The first frane was shot and again turned it on and shot the second frame. And then DOUBLE EXPOSURE 😊 he did it with pola1step
Thanks for the video.
yeah this thing is pretty sharp, hope you are ok.
lol I'm okay! You are the best.

Oh god! You won't believe how much I was looking for this! Thanks, so keen on trying it out! ^_^
Thank you for that brilliant technique! Any idea how to prevent the holder to slip across the picture?:)
I love you!

Thanks for the tutorial. I can't wait to try this on my SX-70! Keep these creative tips coming!
does this technique work on the sx-70?
amazing!! gonna try double exposure on my next film pack!
let us know how it worked
Love all your videos. I just bought a refurbished 680, would that double exposure set up work with this camera. Thanks
yeah, it should work with every polaroid camera
Can’t wait to try this !!!! Thank you!!
Just a note, with the OS2, definitely count to at least 4 before lifting off the shutter button (after you turned the camera off)
but i mentioned that you have to wait
Analog Things wasn't a dig, was just helping to clarify as film isn't cheap.
yeah, thats true

The SQ10 is digital so it always has to be some electronic calculation :) But yeah works great with alot of the Lomo Instant cameras.
Hey man, you’re awesome. Keep up the great work!
Really look forward to every video you post, thanks for doing these! Totally off topic, but curious what setup you film your videos with? Thanks!
Thanks :) in the video description is a link to my kit

great just watch out with light since the film is sensitive
Going to try this on a One600 ultra. Any tips for that particular model?
Wieder ein feines Video !!! Chapeau !

Is it possible to do a kind of HDR with a Polaroid Now, one over and the other under exposed for the same exact frame/composition?
Yes thank yoouuu! This is really cool to get more creative with Polaroid pictures! Thanks for sharing! :D
do you have to use the double exposure maker for the polaroid 600

tecnickly you can make pictures from stars, right?
This is frigging incredible! Can't wait to test it on my supercolor 1000
Great video! I am looking forward to trying it with my one step 2🙏
What do you do with the empty film cartridge once you are done using it?
Oh, thank you so much! It's genius!
Dope tip! will have to try this! a bit scared to hurt myself though :P
well read the comments :) you would be in good company ;)
Hi, I was wondering if the Mamiya RB67's Polaroid back supports Impossible film?
no thats for typ100 film.if we are talking about the same
@@AnalogThings oh do it doesn't support any instant film still produced today?
no, but you can take a look at the save packfilm project from doc, which should start its kickstarter in september
@@AnalogThings thanks, will check it out.

How do I correct the hack with onestep polaroid?
How did you do the image of Anna?
Does this work for the e600?
Do I need to take a second shot immediately after taking a first shot?
no, you can wait as long as you want between them
Love how you found a way to make a permanent double exposure bar with available materials! - Any comment on the "open door" methode?
I know that works for 600 cameras, but i haven't had the best experience with it ... light leaks or wasn't able to push the film back, with this tool i feel better when shooting old film and know that i dont waste a frame
Is this possible with the Fuji mini70?
no, but doesn't the mini have double expsoure function built in?
not the mini 70 unfortunately - at least from what I know
Can you light paint with polaroid? I happened to be on the Polaroid Originals website, looking at the I-type film, when I noticed one of the photos had a heart drawn with light on it and a woman sitting in the middle. How did they create that effect? Does anyone know?
i have to take a look at that exact image but, yeah you can lightpaint with them. one way would be to cover the lightmeter of the camera to give you longer exposure times. the other would be with the time machine from MiNT camera.
Thanks man! Was struggeling with that!! :D
hope you can get some nice shots now
Hi there, I wanted to know how I could fix a Polaroid without a camera
Where you can buy it? I take 5 of them!!
Awesome👌
Thanks for the tip for one step2!
One step 2 you just continue to hold the button and turn the camera after the shot since its the I type
Oida das von der Anna ist abartig gut!! Die Idee muss ich mal klauen ^^
ich borg dir meinen color switcher oder wir bauen einen für deine leica was haltest davon?
Why not! Bin dabei :D
An easier method would be opening the front hatch with the rollers just after taking the shot, so it cant get all the way through.
You then have to push the frame all the way back into the camera with a creditcard or similar.
Only tried it with my last shot tho.
thats not as reliable and the chance of getting light on your image is really high if you use a credit card
Would you happen to know a way you would recommend on the OneStep Closeup or a Spectra series camera?
for spectra there is a closeup stand that could that job, for tge onestep i have no idea
Thanks !!😊
I tried this with an Sx-70 and it came out blank. Any ideas?
I cant press the double exposure maker into the camera more than half of it. I tried several times now and I always checked whether i put it over the first frame, although I did, I couldnt put it in.
But its really easy to put it between 1st and 2nd picture?!
Could someone please help me? :)
maybe you get stuck on the back plastic, try it a few times on an old pack outside the cam
I tried it now, works in a film pack outside the camera but not inside the camera. Since I got a little desperate, I now ordered the One Step + and will switch to that from my vintage camera 😂. Thanks 4 your response!
haha ok, well it's pretry easy with the plus ;)
Wait wait, you can damage the camera if you press the shutter button with no film in it?! Oh man, I've done that quite a lot after I shot my first pack because I wanted to train myself to try and shoot more still :/
Beautiful ! thank you as always for the great content
Doing this can damage the motor or anything mechanic?
no, this is the regular mechanism that happens when the film is empty
Analog Things I ll try it with my sx70. Thanks, and keep on the good work!
one question, the hook have to go face up or face down, inside the cartridge?
face down
Do you have any pics of the double exposure polaroids..???
Brilliant!
thanks
Alternatively, you can buy an Instax camera that has a double exposure mode built in.
Great!
i'm you fan!
I love how you spent so much time explaining what a double expire is, then when it comes to the important part you go super fast.
Cool~!
Sorry but if do open the camera with the film inside the film is unseful?
only if you pull the film out
Nice idea, but you’ve gone much too quickly through the steps needed to cut out and bend the device. It would have been great if you had just added in a few still images of each step in cutting and again at each step in the bending of the piece. A measurement or three would also be helpful. All that said, the principal is straight forward so hopefully a bit of trial and error will help.
I have seen a trick:
What the guy did was:
Instead of releasing the shitter button after taking a shot, he just kept on pressing it so the film didnt eject and upon pressing it still, he turned it off and voila! The first frane was shot and again turned it on and shot the second frame. And then DOUBLE EXPOSURE 😊 he did it with pola1step
sounds interessting will give it a try
I removed the piece of metal and no photos are coming out! Someone please help.
try pulling the film out and back in but just a few mm, if one frame is looking out of the pack push it back in
it didnt work. It pulled out two frames and got stuck between the rolers
What to do to avoid that?
could be that you didn't insert it on top
I did for sure... Tried again' same thing 😊
could you maybe send me an image of your tool on IG?
same thing happened to me :(
