- William Welser delves into the practice of self-tracking-gathering personal data and metrics to better understand one’s motivations, habits, and "why." By analyzing patterns in his own life, Welser seeks insights into how data-driven self-reflection can lead to greater self-awareness. He proposes that by collecting and examining information about ourselves, we can potentially uncover deeper reasons behind our actions, leading to more intentional choices and a clearer sense of purpose in our daily lives. William (Bill) Welser IV is the CEO, CTO, and Cofounder of Lotic.ai, a privacy-first, story-powered insights ecosystem. Welser is accustomed to tackling, communicating, and solving complex problems using expert multidisciplinary teams and state-of-the-art methods and technologies. Welser previously was an executive for a handful of advanced technology start-ups. Before entering the for-profit space, Welser spent 10 years at the RAND Corporation, leading the Engineering and Applied Sciences Department, while also executing a research portfolio exploring human behavior and advanced technologies. He began his career designing and building complex technology systems (e.g. satellites and high-powered lasers) as an USAF officer. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
Love how William combines data and storytelling to make sense of life. So relatable
so glad that you found it relatable.
His love for his work is fr inspiring
if I didn't love it, then it would be difficult to stick with it. very tough indeed.
Love seeing his passion for data.
it's definitely an adjective used to describe me -- passionate! have to be :)
So inspired by Will’s take on how self-tracking can shape your story!
mixing biometrics with your stories is such a powerful way to self-hack and improve your life.
William’s TED Talk hit home about using self-tracking to create your own story. So insightful
self-hacking is such a powerful concept, but you have to start with data to know where to begin.
People like Will inspire me.
yay. grateful for the praise.
Love the emphasis on how important it is to manage data.
our data is our future currency. our future purchasing power. the future of our distinct individuality. so critical.
Was cool to hear the crowd enjoying the talk as much as i did.
TEDxPaloAlto is held in such an amazing venue and the audience was equally incredible. Loved speaking to them.
One of my friends is in the same line of work and they fully agree with Wills talk.
Yay! tell them to speak up and share. definitely need more voices talking about this aspect of tech.
Will’s TED Talk showed me how tracking your journey can help you tell your best story. So powerful
start with a few days in a row, grow a habit, and yes, the insights start pouring out.
Should be proud of this talk it was a pleasure to listen to.
Thank you. I need to listen to it -- lol. I have a terrible habit of not wanting to hear myself.
Habits and routines all the way , consistency is key folks
yes, yes, and yes. exactly correct!
Loving this talk so far.
Thank you so much. I hope the entire talk kept your attention :)
Cutting edge talk Mr Bill Welser
Thank you so much. I really enjoyed being able to share my journey and experiences.
Love how powerful data is.
it truly is emerging as one of greatest sources of power.
Self tracking I think is a very important thing and William gets that point across very well.
I have learned so much about myself by starting the exploration with self-tracking and then diving deeper.
seems like such a genuine dude
grateful for comments like yours; so glad my nature comes across.
I’m glad i’m not the only one hugely data driven !!!
I find that as long as I don't just get lost in the data for the sake of data, that there are some very cool conclusions we can draw about ourselves.
His energy is awesome.
yay! thank you thank you.
Cool to see the crowd having a good time.
such an amazing group of humans. super-engaged!
We can learn a lot from Will!
yay! I'm humbled that you see it that way.
Wills got a real bright mind and he shows it.
Appreciate you! Grateful for the compliment.
Williams humour throughout his talk was a nice touch.
too many serious topics are broached without involving some lighthearted humor. I'm pleased you appreciated it.
the part where he said we are like pawns in other peoples game was a cool point.
that phrase gives me chills every time I think about it, because we really are becoming pawns.
Showed this talk to my friends and they loved it.
super-psyched to read this. thank you for passing it along.
Wills work actually sounds freakin awesome.
it's so much fun to work on something that is designed to help people. I'm grateful to be in that position.
everyone should love data as much as will and his colleagues.
I'm fortunate to be surrounded by amazing humans who jump into the deep end with data and learn how to swim every time!
Love how passionate Will is about data and his job.
Thank you. I just want to have an impact with my work.
Love how comfortable he is on stage.
the venue, the audience, and the organizers contributed to that comfort.
Love how William keeps your attention from the start very well done talk.
Thank you for the praise. I had a great time delivering this talk.
Love how William starts his talk!
The start is always tricky for me whether it's a talk, or just a conversation. lol
He keeps this talk very informal and educational but you can tell hes trying to make it understandable for everyone.
my goal is always to make information as relatable and understandable as possible -- I'm so glad you found it met that mark.
LOVED this Will.
thank you so much.
Wonderful talk Bill ! You should be very proud of your work.
Thank you very much :)
Accountability and taking ownership for one’s self ! Love this
so many people talk about it, but it is very hard to do. definitely something that takes discipline and determination.
I need a ted talk like this to come to my city.
check out your local library and city hall to see if a local event like this is held.
Love the story telling and tips William!!!!!
You're welcome. I hope that some of it comes in useful.
Grateful for this one !
grateful for you.
Thanks for a great talk William. !
Self tracking seems way more important than it did yesterday.
data is becoming more and more valuable and powerful; collecting biometrics on yourself is a good start.
Great talk Mr W !!
Boom! thanks for the words of encouragement.
Amazing talk William had me from start to finish bravo.
Yay! Thank you very much for the kind words.
Love these talks because i always just fee educated after them.
easily one of the best parts of the TED network is that there are so many fun and interesting (and valuable) things to learn. I am glad I was able to provide that to you.
Motivated after this one !
yay! motivation is one of those things that builds momentum amongst groups of people. make sure to pass it along :)
Great presentation on a fast evolving topic !
The amount of data available to each of us is absolutely unbelievable. Making sense of it comes down to knowing what to look for and having the right tools. Yes, this whole space is moving fast.
Empowering and inspiring
Love it! I'm glad it struck you in those ways.
What a wonderful talk !

We are creatures of habit in many ways. Thought provoking talk.
Yes, we are indeed. exploring our habits and patterns help us make positive changes.
Never heard of ‘self tracking ‘ before , i have now !
self-tracking to start self-hacking.

Rad! Thank you for the feedback.
I have been examining. myself for years and i have always been accused of over thinking William . Appreciate you and this talk very much
It's super-easy to get lost in data, but asking questions of yourself daily and checking in on things important to you are crucial to living a solid existence. Keep it up :)
I personally could not live like this Mr Wesler, we aren’t robots
I completely understand. Our context is what makes us human.
Love wills personality!
yay!!! appreciate you :)
Useful tips and i’ve already implemented and seeing results
That's amazing news! congratulations and keep it up :)
Understanding who you are and why you do stuff seems important.
it's the most important -- the 'why' is what dictates who we are.
Wish more ted talks were like this.
Appreciate the praise. speaking with passion from the heart is always the best approach (for me)
Love your message on AI
AI is easily one of the most misunderstood topics out there and it has been for decades. I glad you found my messaging helpful.
Showed my partner this talk and they loved it.
so dope! thank you.
Great talk Bill
Thank you :)
William taking the time to explain most of the details for people who arent very educated on the topic makes this video so much easier to understand and actually consume yk?
thank you so much :) my goal was to make it as accessible and possible. glad it hit the mark for you
This was a real interesting talk.

Thank you. Really enjoyed sharing this journey.
Well done !
Thank you so very much :)
The polygraph machine was really interesting.
one of the most fun, interesting, and different ways to interrogate my data for sure!!!
Will is weirdly relatable.
hilarious. weirdly relatable is better than not relatable at all, right? lol
Always wanted to go to a talk like this but never found the right time.
I highly suggest the programming at TEDxPaloAlto in the future. set-aside half a day and enjoy :)
Very inspirational
awesome! thank you.
Brilliant speaker :)
very kind of you. I appreciate the praise.
brilliant talk will.
appreciate you! I had a fun time delivering it.
Great talk
very grateful.
Congratulations 🙌
thank you :)
Im also an engineer so this talk was made for me.
rad! glad this spoke to the engineering mind.
Wish i could be a part of these cool ways to collect data.
companies are always looking for willing volunteers to test their products and give feedback.
Cool to see how you can even subconsciously convince yourself that you are something you aren't.
this was super interesting to me. each of us has to think through how our personal expectations of the world intersect with the reality around us. mismatches there can cause these sorts of subconscious disconnects.
its lowkey scary how sometimes we might not know ourselves.
yep. very scary indeed. understanding ourselves better will lead to happier, healthier, and more content lives.
Another great talk great job Will.
appreciate you :)
so good
Appreciate you!
Williams 8 week trial was very interesting.
it was quite an enlightening two months :)
This talk flew by wish he was able to talk for longer.
