Gleb Bokhan yes, it was thrown away. The fact that he divorced robin over one of the stupidest reasons shows it, one can argue that him being a womanizer again shows how they completely erased his development ( I feel that too) or that he always relapsed but what shows how they erased and rewrote it in less than 3 minutes is his reaction when the girl tells him that she’s pregnant and he didn’t even wanted to see the baby but suddenly when he sees her his whole character evolves again into what he already was in season 9 but this time it was the magic of seeing his child what changed him and not his own experiences.

Yet they where still seen as attractive and put together if they just brushed their hair and wear pretty clothes . Compare that to now and think if you would find a women with dirt in her nails has something attractive or well put together.
@@paulogaspar8295 Okay so first, Romans are famous for for their public bathhouse that all citizens visited at least weekly, probably more often. I don't call that "barely took a bath". Secondly, don't know where you would work in the fields in Rome 😜 But yeah outside Rome most people's were farmers.... So what? 😁 And thirdly, I will totally call a beautiful woman beautiful, even if she got dirt under her nails and hairs everywhere. Finally, what you describe was a pure rural woman, I was referring to rich elite men. But that shows that yes, beauty standard and expectations have shifted. At a time where the only bath available for most people was more like a public pool, hygiene expectations were lower.
Well John Wick is set in the world of murder for hire so it makes sense for them to look like casual business men. In-universe it probably also functions as a disguise

The funny thing is that wearing a suit and hat today is you making a bigger individual stance. Because now everyone is wearing all kinds of clothes in defiance of the suit and hat, to wear a suit and hat makes you look more like an individual and you look damn fine doing it as well.
Well, it is simple really, Nothing Suits Him Like a Suit!!! Btw, I love that you guys have taken up Himym recently, it has a lot of interesting parts for analysis!
It's reducing a person (usually a woman) to a type. The only thing you're interested in them is their race. Their personality, thoughts, compatibility doesn't matter to the person seeing them as a type. You treat objects this way
i think in that context it's a preference.. if he said "all lebanese girls are beautiful" (i.e. a generalisation) then that might be racist.. positive racism lol
@SchnuffelWuffel people can have types but since this was in connection with Barney and his fetish with Lebanese girls, I gave my reply. In this context, it was racist
@SchnuffelWuffel not all Lebanese and half asian women look the same, that's the slightly racist assumption he's making. Hair and eye colour can be on any race of person, so it's different from what Barney said.
You make an interesting argument, although I do feel like your description of suit-enthusiasts is a little one-sided. In recent years there has actually been a rise in people who want to wear a suit as a part of a more "elegant" lifestyle. To write this off as an old-fashioned sense of adhering to outdated views on race, gender or sexuality, or as trying to fit in in a corporate society is incorrect. In fact the idea for many suit-lovers nowadays is that it is part of a lifestyle that revolves about respect and the idea of elegance that is often tied to the suit is a way for them not to be complacent with the standard of people who don't like wearing suits. I am not saying that your argument about the suit in the 21st century is necessarily wrong, but it only shows the side of those who oppose the suit and leaves out the side of people (who are not misogynist, homophobes or racists) who still enjoy wearing suits.
And as others here in the comment section have remarked(the majority of them women, oddly enough), most of us fellas aren't Jobs or Zuckerberg, and thus can't go through life dressed like tenth graders and still be respected, much less seen as men
Very well said. I work for myself. I can dress down to business casual in the line of work I do, but I suit up every day to show respect to myself and others. I do important work. I take care of the details, I’m presentable to others. Also if you learn anything about suits you find out that it’s in the details where you can show a lot of your own character. Suits box peoples individuality as much as the edges of a canvas box an artists creativity, or chess pieces limit a chess players strategy. A suit is the structure that allows a man to shine by accentuating their masculine physical features, while giving enough room to plant the details of their individual personality. There is simply more individuality there than an adult 10 year old who doesn’t know who he is, and wearing trainers. Granted I wouldn’t mind having Zuckerburge money. But I wouldn’t take his lumpy fashion sense.
In my opinion, once you get hooked on suits you can't stop. Taking the time to dress nicely and look well put together affects how people perceive you. I consider taking the time and effort with the details like shining your shoes to be a form of good manners. You can still wear a suit daily and have a good character. Jeans are omnipresent due to the 1960s counterculture, and the younger generations are even rebelling against jeans with the shift to athleisure, due to comfort. I've had a hard time buying jeans and casual clothes off the rack my entire life due to my build. Wearing tailored trousers and clothing has been a life-changer for me. I can finally go outside in clothes that actually fit me with the details I want, like cuffs and pleats. Most societies reserve special clothing for formal occasions which tends to be replaced as history progresses. The suit will inevitability die off someday, but it still has some life left in it.
You girls can keep up posting HIMYM related videos I wouldn’t even be mad. Also, put one for Marshall please! My favourite relatable character. Thanks. 😊❤️
you could have added the scene from Skyfall, where Q was telling James Bond that he could do more damage behind a laptop in his pajamas than James Bond could do 10 years in the field. Fits into the whole bathrobe, T-shirt look that zuckerburg had in the social network.
Suits can be seen as positive, stylish, attractive, and a symbol of maturity and confidence. Heck, there's even a show named 'Suits' about a group of successful lawyers.
I also feel bad for the men who designed the suits it’s like “a painter without his paintbrush and canvas”, movies about fashion are mostly on the women’s department there’s not a single film about men’s clothing. Us men can work in fashion to.
I've seen quite a few men's fashion designers adapt to the cultural changes by expanding their designs and pieces. Men's fashion definitely needs to modernize, expand, and receive more recognition.
then go work in fashion and change it because youre right. the met gala, as an example, shows off women in all types different fashions, styles, and unique design. and then they're like and the man... is wearing a suit lol
Funny. This has actually swung me the opposite way. I choose Suits. That clip of Mad Men kind of did it. Those hippies thought they were enlightened ...”rebels of the system” . They ended up being addicts. Barney literally elevated everybody’s careers. The suits represents discipline, it is a lab coat.
I literally got a haircut and started dressing better after that scene where all the hippies were terrified of the cops but he just walks out stoned af and waves at the guy
I've been critical of your HIMYM videos before, but this is a finely done one. I believe suits still have relevance today, but the key is to not overuse them. GREAT analysis on Stinson though, nailed it! 👍
The suit. Don't let them tell you otherwise. The difference is fit. It's drab and unflattering when you wear a drab and unflattering suit, one that doesn't fit. But a good one? Looks great, despite what people say now. And when they see a good looking suit that rhetoric falls to the wayside. Think Justin Timberlake in Suit and Ties, no ones saying that crap about him and his look
Suits, but they are worn far less now. When a person wears a suit it's a special occasion, where as people used to wear some version of it almost daily.
a couple of suggestions for the next video: * Earth bending (from ATLA) and Air Bending * Tragic endings/abusive relationships in homosexual media (like how someone has to always die or there a huge fistfight before a make-out session) * he relationship between walt and russ in UP * White saviors in movies like the help and the blind side
I really love this channel! Its clear that How I Met your Mother is a favorite of this channel but it would be nice to see other shows and tropes discussed (e.g. Jane The Virgin, Blackish, Fresh off The Boat, Insecure, etc.)
The videos like this one you narrate somehow bring more to the table. They give an even bigger perspective about topics which message is unseen. They open the mind and make you think even deeper. Thank you.
I hate work uniforms, especially if you will mostly only sit on your desk, make calls, and work on your computer. Most professional wear is made to be uncomfy ( excluding tailored suits made for you, but who has the time and money for it). I have big boobs and if I wear a classical white office blouse I automatically look like a sexy stereotype office girl or its way too baggy and I look frumpy. How can I be confident at a job, where the work uniform is actively hindering me to move and feel good. Also, high heels are a scam, my mum has a few pairs called "sitting shoes" because while they look great, they are so frustrating, that they only work when you sit. Especially high-end brands like Louboutins are a nightmare to walk in
women have way more option than men. Men have one or two things they can wear, women allways can wear a tone of different options. It's so fucking annoying when I have to wear black or white but then women wear wathever dress color they can, they can wear reavealing clothes etc... But men have to wear buttoned up shirts or suits.
I like how suits make someone look presentable. I mean, its wonderful that so many intelligent leaders are confident enough in themselves to not wear a suit but to me it just kinda looks like they aren't prepared for their position (just an opinion). Also, can we talk aboit how high heels are very pretty and make your legs looks great but are so *uncomfortable* ?? Damn, that has to be said
High heels can be comfortable, but they need to be good. Real leather, for starters, not plastic; with a correct curve for its height, and padding inside.
@@LynnHermione High heels are awful, no matter how well made. They restrict a woman's natural movement, are solely about elongating the leg to exaggerate sexual attractiveness, and worn long term can cause real problems with feet and calf muscles. Ugh.
I understand this video isn't about Barney, it's about the suits specifically... but it's a bit irritating how far off-base most of the comments on Barney's character actually are. The video even points out that Barney's persona is just a facade he puts up to shield his true self from harm, yet points to that facade as his character almost exclusively.
I'd honestly like to make a suit work just once in my life. I have like some kind of repulsion field for anything formal, it's crazy. Anytime I try and dress fancily it goes wrong. Most notably at the 2 big family weddings I had to get done up for. By the end of both my parents had to come up with odd and creative ways to keep the suit on me because it was falling apart. Be it my belt breaking and my missized pants having to be held up by bungee cords or the entire rubber portion of both my dress shoes slowly peeling off during the reception and party. Both were suits purchased for those exact events, so old age ain't it. It was a good laugh though.
My longtime issue with suits is that depending on on the circumstances, they can be surprisingly impractical. If the weather is warm and/or muggy, I typically refuse flat out to wear a suit, even if the situation may warrant it. I also dislike wearing layers in general, and have never been fond of the ways in which some suits can restrict movement.
I just wanna know the suit is perceived amongst people of colour. Because as a dark skinned muslim growing up, suits for me were emblematic of intellectual, thoughtful men who had principles and empathy towards others. Because my suitmen were b.r ambedkar, and Malcolm x.
After his experience with his ex-gf and her new guy, he probably thought, from that moment on, being like this is the only way. A really sad story if you think about it a little more.
To me is just funny them attacking barney character like showing him liking lebanese girls has casual racist, but then they defend women that only date black guys or that are into korean men because of kpop and media. The women in this channel are fucking bias and sexist when it comes to men, they dislike everything that fits in any way shape or form the "masculine" way if it's on men, on women is "empowering".
People can say whatever they want about suits being comformist or something like that, but no one can deny men and women in well fitted suits look sexy and professional. Like Lucifer Morningstar or Elijah Michaelson, they can make anything look elegant and sexy when wearing a 3 piece suit, even murder. No Tec guy who dresses as a forever 16 yr old will have the presence or command the respect a person in a nice suit does.
Man this is the first Take video I didn't like. Such a hostile takedown of suits! I like suits. But damn this video did an amazing job at taking them down, especially the "uniform of the powerless" and that quote at the end "often used to lend the appearance of sophistication to something awful" I just love that word choice! It makes you want to think twice about dealing with anyone in a suit, honestly
I love the feeling of wearing a pantsuit or skirt suit, especially with heels, pearls, and pantyhose. I wish I could wear it every day but my job isn't a suit job.
Also too, I think there is a whole nother side to this and thats how the trope gets fed. Tropes are like black holes: they need to eat something in order to survive and/or grow because if they don't they die. The fact that the suit is still in despite the new billionaires says that somewhere there are people, men and women, who still actively by into that. Things are rarely as black and white as that

Now it's suits, but it can change with the decades ^^
And already the suit has changed since the industrial revolution ;)
@President-Caliph Dhuku We'll see, but I don't think we'll see in our lifetime the expiration of suits ^^
Maybe in two-hundred years XD
@President-Caliph Dhuku Yeah, togas also survived centuries, and then faded away with cultural shift ^^
@@krankarvolund7771 are you comparing now with acient rome? In ancient rome women barely took a bath, had hair everywhere, had messy full of insects hair and they worked on the earth as farmers and had their nails full of dirt.
You know it’s funny that John Wick’s world is consist of people wearing suits.
@Black Ninja the majority of the characters in all 3 films do in fact wear suits.
Well John Wick is set in the world of murder for hire so it makes sense for them to look like casual business men. In-universe it probably also functions as a disguise
Make one on Lily, she wasn't as innocent as they portrayed :(
She did grow up hard, was goth when she met Marshall, and weirdly enjoyed violence! That would be cool
She was the worst out of the group.
Lily was the worst character in the gang, she left marshall for her dream of painting and then got mad at him when he took his dream job as a judge, she manipulated Ted's relationships based on what she feels is good for him or not, she doesnt even let marshall have his own opinions. Oh and also, she plays that justice lily game where when someone does something she dislikes she steals something from them and doesnt return it until they appologize. Real trashy person.
@@morninggyro8880 you know that that is a comedy show , you don’t have to take everything seriously
Yeah she’s a total grinch
the first time i watched himym my initial response seeing barney was: "holy shit (street smart) joey + chandler in a person I LOVE IT"
He was joey and chandler morphed together
Smart and corporate like chandler
Nice person and selfless for his friends like joey
Womanizer like joey
Funny and a good husband like chandler
Ikr i felt the same way!!
wearing a suit doesn't make you surrendering your individualism, it is who you are.
Barney:suit up.
Me: pajama up.
Birthday suit up
Curious asian here. How is having a thing for Half-Asian girls or Lebanese girls considered casual racism?
i think so
It's reducing a person (usually a woman) to a type.
Thanks. 😊❤️
Yaaaaas! Marshall
Ever think of doing a video for the Weird Boy Trope? You could point out examples like Edwaed Scissorhands or Jughead Jones from Riverdale.
you could have added the scene from Skyfall, where Q was telling James Bond that he could do more damage behind a laptop in his pajamas than James Bond could do 10 years in the field. Fits into the whole bathrobe, T-shirt look that zuckerburg had in the social network.
Suits can be seen as positive, stylish, attractive, and a symbol of maturity and confidence. Heck, there's even a show named 'Suits' about a group of successful lawyers.
It's so damn early, Barney still a hippie going to Nicaragua
😂😂😂
Why do I hear him saying "Nicaragua" XD
I like your HIMYM marathon, this show shaped my sense of humor in a way🥺
I also feel bad for the men who designed the suits it’s like “a painter without his paintbrush and canvas”, movies about fashion are mostly on the women’s department there’s not a single film about men’s clothing.
Earlier than my parents at an airport
Try to Talk down the suit, but to be realistic:
Most People connect Suits to importance, influence and power.
Well, I love wearing suits. I have since I was 11. Their comfortable and make me feel great.
Take away the tie and I would totally wear that suit pajamas, it looks comfy
6:03 barney was actually telling us what he's job was.
The Take is like my favourite TV show except you get a new episode every couple of days instead of weeks.
The promise: Explaining Barney and his suits
The truth: The history of suit fashion.
Not that I mind...
Main character from How i met your mother : Ted
Best character from How i met your mother : Barney
I never thought I’d see a 20 minute video about Barney and his suits, but it’s what the suits deserve.
I've been critical of your HIMYM videos before, but this is a finely done one.
I believe suits still have relevance today, but the key is to not overuse them.
GREAT analysis on Stinson though, nailed it! 👍
wow i love how you just made 4 himym contents in 1 month and i just happen to have just finished rewatching the show
If the suit is now associated with an outdated era, what's the standard look for a sophisticated man now?
The suit. Don't let them tell you otherwise. The difference is fit. It's drab and unflattering when you wear a drab and unflattering suit, one that doesn't fit. But a good one? Looks great, despite what people say now. And when they see a good looking suit that rhetoric falls to the wayside. Think Justin Timberlake in Suit and Ties, no ones saying that crap about him and his look
full body morph suit
That's the thing. The suit ISN'T associated with an outdated era
I'd still say the suit tbh
Suits, but they are worn far less now. When a person wears a suit it's a special occasion, where as people used to wear some version of it almost daily.
a couple of suggestions for the next video:
* Earth bending (from ATLA) and Air Bending
* Tragic endings/abusive relationships in homosexual media (like how someone has to always die or there a huge fistfight before a make-out session)
* he relationship between walt and russ in UP
* White saviors in movies like the help and the blind side
I really love this channel! Its clear that How I Met your Mother is a favorite of this channel but it would be nice to see other shows and tropes discussed (e.g. Jane The Virgin, Blackish, Fresh off The Boat, Insecure, etc.)
The videos like this one you narrate somehow bring more to the table. They give an even bigger perspective about topics which message is unseen. They open the mind and make you think even deeper. Thank you.
Perfect Ad placement... legen wait for it....ad...dary🤣🤣
Lily, talk about Lily and how she grew during the show.
It is going to be legend waitttttttt for it daaaaaarrrrrrryyyyyy
This video has opened my eyes into what a suit symbolizes in movies and tv shows.
In some way the t-shirt and hoodie wearing fashion are even more elitist and exclusionary, much harder for outsiders to get in.
Yup. If you like suits and wear one, you are judged just as much.
Plus the Suits didn’t steal all our personal data and sell it to the highest bidder.
@@KrisRN23935 I’m not anti-suits at all but suits did steal people’s retirement funds and crash the economy.
@@Femmagorgon Meh, the tech bros spy on us so I’d say it’s even.
There was nothing more demeaning to me in my former job than high heels being obligatory to the point they were going to give us uniforms
Especially high-end brands like Louboutins are a nightmare to walk in
Your bosses sound like masochists
@@loewenmakrele corsets work for some people
women have way more option than men. Men have one or two things they can wear, women allways can wear a tone of different options. It's so fucking annoying when I have to wear black or white but then women wear wathever dress color they can, they can wear reavealing clothes etc... But men have to wear buttoned up shirts or suits.
Wearing a suit while watching this. and it is LEGENDARY!!
Okay but hear me out: women in suits
I hear you!
Aye
you're hired
Ugh.
Even though I never watched this show, I was curious about the subject, so I clicked on it.
I want a take on Coraline and the lesson that an imperfect family can still be perfect or sth like this
0:44 I can't believe she referred to Barney as 'Barnacles'.
i like your HIMYM series!
I love the take
GNB related stories are one of my favorites in the show because there's some good satire there
I finally understand that line in You're Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile from Annie! Thanks, Susannah and Debra!
Quality content as always
Please to have to do a Take on how Latinas are portrayed as the latin equivalent as the "sassy black girl friend"
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR YOUR TAKE ON BARNEY OH MY GOD!!!!! IM SO HAPPY!!!
I just wanna know the suit is perceived amongst people of colour. Because as a dark skinned muslim growing up, suits for me were emblematic of intellectual, thoughtful men who had principles and empathy towards others. Because my suitmen were b.r ambedkar, and Malcolm x.
Ted’s character was always annoying. Barney was the man!
Barney is the reason I keep coming back to himym
The video I didn't know I wanted.
Uh... it's invoking Darth Vader getting imprisoned in his new life sustaining armor.
Yes! Thank you! That's perfect.
im a simple girl, i see barney stinson.. i click
Now do deeper symbolism of the suits in Suits
Also too, I think there is a whole nother side to this and thats how the trope gets fed. Tropes are like black holes: they need to eat something in order to survive and/or grow because if they don't they die. The fact that the suit is still in despite the new billionaires says that somewhere there are people, men and women, who still actively by into that. Things are rarely as black and white as that
Without Barney, how I met your mother don’t work
As COPPA changes the outlook of RUclips, I’m glad to see content suitable for all audiences.
Please make a video about the show “Suits”! It would be amazing ❤️
I wear suits because I think they look good and make me feel confident. Nothing more, nothing less
Neil Patrick Harris could make an child rapist or a murderer seem lovable. In fact he did make a memorable murderer in a series of unfortunate events....
