I think the reviewer might have gotten something wrong regarding the HTA7000 soundbar specifically. It has 2 HDMI 2.1 in ports in addition to the HDMI 2.1 out port that goes to the eArcs port on the TV. You plug your PS5 and xbox into the soundbar ports and then plug the soundbar into the TV making the problem with the limited 2.1 ports on the TV completely irrelevant. Doing this you'll even still have 1 hdmi 2.1 port left on the TV for something else if you need it.
While not related to the TV itself, the HT-A5000 and A7000 soundbars, as well as the A9 surround setup FINALLY received their VRR and ALLM firmware on their HDMI ports a couple days ago so we can all finally keep HDMI 2.1 sources plugged into those ports and still take advantage of those features. Also, I thought the HT-A7000 had two HDMI inputs along with the eARC output so that shouldn’t be an issue for connecting two HDMI 2.1 sources.
The HT-A7000 has 3 HDMI ports. One of which is the eARC and the other 2 are HDMI 2.1 so if you get an A80L with a HT-A7000 youll have 1 HDMI 2.1 left on the tv along with 2 additional 2.1 ports on the soundbar.

How does this compare to A90j?
I just bought a Sony A80CL OLED. Not sure how different that is to A80L. The picture is crisp but is too dark. I can't seem to find a way to turn the brightness up.
the A80CL is the Costco/Sams Club/BJs version. Same tv but just sold at wholesalers
Price dropped on them
Did you solve the brightness problem?
I was in Best Buy today to see this TV in person...
There were 2 TVs close to each other with the same video A80L and not an OLED one and this second was way brighter. And now I am really concerned about its brightness
I just got this tv the brightness is just as bright as my LG c2 I have no brightness issues at all. Make sure you turn the light sensor off and the Eco settings and adjust the peak luminance.
I much prefer their x90L or x95L. If however, I had to pick an OLED, perhaps the G3/C3 or the S90C/95C. OLED screen gives me headaches🥲
Sony =/ competitive pricing.
what no prices should NOT be competitive it shouild be half the list price.
@MatthewMoniz Reports are that the 83" a80L is not like the other smaller sizes in the line-up. That it has a heat sink and internals that are closer in design to that a90J than the A80K. Has any one reviewed the 83 inch version of this model? Do you have any insights?
I dont know anyone who has reviewed the 83-inch version of it unfortunately /=
It's better LG compared to Sony ...
Hdmi splitter or switch should solve lack of hdmi 2.1 ports.. if you really have to have sony.
It's not a lack of HDMI ports that's the problem it's a lack of ports that support 120hz
I have it it’s an amazing tv but pissed it went down to 1499 when I bought for 1799
End of year is always the best time to buy a new tv. That’s when all the sales happen
@@MatthewMoniz it’s a new model barely a month old and that’s a huge discount now
hello. I am so close to buying this model but concerned about brightness issue. Can you elaborate . $1500 nice deal now
@@smu920 it’s plenty bright enough way Brighter than the Vizio oled i had it’s a good tv
It's on sale this weekend in my country.
What kind of cat is that?
Half Russian Blue, half oriental short hair
Isn't it possible to put a switch on the one 2.1 HDMI port if you have 2 consoles?
Ya for example, I have a Sony HT-A7000 soundbar connected and that gives me access to another 2 HDMi 2.1 ports
@@MatthewMoniz Wow, really? Good to know.
Well, you bought it so maybe it is.
Funny,Sony buy oled and led panels from LG and Samsung, and always,on same panel Sony make much better picture, sound, everything
LG IS BEST❤
Just get an HDMI 2.1 switch and your problem is solved.
Sony hatter, before you buy a tv do a reserch, everybody kows that it only has two 2.1 hdmi ports, so if you have a soundbar and two consoles, well, you should have boguth the lgc3 or samsung s90c those two are much better for gamers, but for watching movies, upscaling, depth and 3D like image none of other two gets close to the a80l, all this in a dark room or with controled light, if u are going to use it im a bright room the sony is not a good choice, is not near as bright as the samsung which is almust twice as bright the the sony an even the c3 which is close to 200 nits brighter than the sony, so it all depends on your needs
I forgot to mention tje sound system and the operative system, the sony gas the best if the 3
Никуя не пойму😢😢😢 можно на нормальном языке?
Do not buy this tv (XR65A80L). I have had mine less than 2 months and already have burn-in from the roku RUclips app. I have a 10 min screen saver and shut the tv off when I leave the room, so it's not like I am leaving a static image all the time.
❤❤❤❤
Still only 2 HDMI 2.1 port 😂 LG OLED are better
fact
Some LG OLEDs also have 2
@@mateuszptaszynski5377 my LG CX came out in 2020 and it has 4 hdmi 2.1 ports. And it all being put to good use(XBSX, PS5, Apple TV 4K and EARC sound bar)
@@dunggg yes, but not all newer models have it
@@mateuszptaszynski5377yes they do bud lol my C3 has 4 hdmi 2.1 ports 😅 same with G3. Shit, even the C1 & C2.
Man things are dangling all over the place sometimes.
Not worth the price at all. I really don’t like the A80L I must say it’s even the worst OLED tv I’ve ever bought. Look somewhere else, yes I have 2 consoles and a Atmos soundbar and I ended up with only one hdmi 2.1. My lg CX 2019 model have 4 hdmi 2.1. Incredible how Sony lack of features.
Processing is mediocre in my opinion.
Gaming mode is extremely dark, gaming menu bar, well ok VRR on/off switch the rest is useless. You can’t even see fps and the resolution in gaming menu.
It’s the same of last years model.
So what would you recommend??
same question,,, which one do you recommend..?
Why would you want a bright ass tv? Unless you’re old and can’t see . Sony is much better than lg no comparison. Lg might be a little better for gaming buts that’s it.
The Screen blacked out in less than a years time in my Sony XR 55 OLED TV.
came here for the tv, stayed for the Meow 🐈😻
nah, today sony picture is overprocessed even if you disable most processing and i dont like it
