You killed this review. I own the A80K in 65 inch and when watching acutal content (movies and TV shows) the Sony OLED blow the LG and Samsung units out of the water. The processing is just next level and a lot of reviewers miss this entirely - by relying on measurements alone. I don't find the 2x in cost for the A95L to be worth it - I'd rather have the A80L in 83"!
I own the 77 A80L and it’s great! I have it in my basement (so it’s in a dark room) and it looks amazing! I think it’s definitely bright enough for most people. For me the decision between the A80L and the competition came down to the processing, Sony XR clear is the best in the business! The only TV (when you factor in price) that really competes with the A80L and definitely beats it in some areas is the S90c, like in color saturation and brightness. But because the Samsung lacks Dolby Vision and its processor is just not on par with Sony’s I went with the A80L. One last thing, if you are looking for a 83in Oled and above tv, then I think the A80L is the best choice overall at that size.
I ended up getting the S89C which is 77 inch 2nd gen QD OLeD from Best Buy at $1799. This TV rocks and at that price is a better TV than the A80L. Processing is just fine on the TV and HDR and gaming content is absolutely stunning. Unless you’re simply watching old reruns in 480i the S89C will be the TV over the A80L.
Is color accuracy and everything pretty solid out of the box or did you have to tweak a lot of things. I’ve heard that’s a big benefit of Sony TV’s! Just ordered the A80L 77 inch so super excited regardless
Great vid! I love this tv. I actually had Classy calibrate it, which made it even brighter. I actually had the LG C3 and was disappointed with the brightness. I found the A80l, in real world viewing, was definitely brighter.

@@TechWithKG I’ve been so tempted at that price to putt the trigger, I have seen some open box for under 1k so maybe I’ll keep an eye out there…just prefer the A80L stand for the low profile lol choices
Thank you KG for ruining my made up mind on buying the S90D, after seeing this video I went to BB and saw A80L in person and was impressed especially side by side to the A95L, and if the Sony Bravia 8 is better then the A80L that’s gonna be a problem😅
Hi, I just got my a80l 83" after watching all of Brian's videos. All I can say, wow, this thing is so bright I turned brightness down to 0. I'm 4 hour's into playing with the settings. I have a crazy question, or am I missing a setting. Do the sonys show the format on the screen like lg does.
I'm watching movies and series via Apple TV 4K and 4K Blu-ray in a dark room. Which TV would you recommend going from an LG B7? The LG G3 or Sony A80L?
Great video KG, but how would you compare this tv with the Samsung S90C whhen it comes picture quality vs vaule? Which of these TV's do you like better and why? Thanks and keep up the great work!
Thank you and great question. Both are great first of all you really can’t pick a bad TV in that scenario. Your really weighing brightness and newer panel technology with S90C vs Best processing and built in sound. There’s some shows that would look better on A80L but there are some things that will look more impactful with the HDR in the S90C. So it’s really up to you to decide what categories you favor the most.
I got this TV a few months ago and I've been having this problem where the picture will occasionally go black for a second. It really bugs me. I looked online and found that a few others are having this same issue. But it's too late to return the TV.
Hello .. i take my external drive with me to the agent to check how it works .. because this is my main use of the tv.. ( most of what i watch which is old comedy is 720p and lower) .. because i tried lg tv and it was a bad experience in the quality of the video.. but when i insert the hard drive it takes a very long time to open .. and i removed it before trying .. do you know what is the problem
Great review KG! A80l is so tempting, but do you think it would have enough horsepower/brightness in a well lit living room? Coming from a 900f, which has trouble pushing through glare at times.
It’s hard to say if you have any light coming through and directly impacting the tv or even hitting it, a bright mini LED might be the way to go in those situations. 900F is around the brightness of the A80L, 900F peak is higher but it’s not significantly more maybe a 200 bit difference not that noticeable unless you’re talking SDR viewing 900F will look brighter for sure.
THANK YOU!!!! This is the BEST instructional video I've seen on a Sony BRAVIA TV! I bought a Sony BRAVIA XR55A75L HDTV yesterday. Will you PLEASE tell me one thing about this TV? I have a channel box and DVD recorder connected to this TV. I also have an Amazon Fire TV block connected to this TV. PLEASE tell me how to change the HDMI port selection on this TV! How to change from port 1 to port 2? Oh yes, if I'm trying to start an app in streaming and the screen reads, "Oh, an error has occurred," how can I get the app to load and play please? The remedy I've found...I HAVE to start another app and THEN go back to the first app and it PLAYS! Is there a shorter and easier answer please? THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!
Never encountered that last issue sorry but sometimes resetting the cache in settings can help with apps. As for switching hdmi on the remote under the tv button that’s your switch input button.
@@TechWithKG Hi!, what type of screen finish does the 77” have? I’ve seen the 55” and 65” and those have a semi-gloss finish. The 83” has a glossy finish so I’m wondering if the 77” has a glossy panel or semi-gloss. Thanks!
@@TechWithKG thanks for replying! I’m literally ready to go buy one tomorrow… It’s for playing PS5 and also Nintendo Switch and I want to watch streaming services like Netflix, Disney+ so I want the best possible picture for future proofing. I will use a sound bar so I don’t care about the sound either. (I don’t watch sports or cable/antenna TV). I mainly watch/play in a darker environment but sometimes during the day but my living room only has one window at the side. I plan on running a 2.1 fancy LED switch box so I can hook up LED lights around the tv that will sync with my PS5 content, therefore I will use 2x provided 2.1 HDMI ports for both my consoles - and because of this I will not be using the TVs onboard OS and I will stream and play everything through my PS5 - so I won’t need multiple 120ghz HDMI ports on the TV either I guess. (Does that sound like a good plan?) The only thing that worries me about the Samsung is: •the reported motion stutter •no Dolby vision I know that the Samsung has the QD instead of Sonys W which seems like a better spec and also the Samsung seems to have the edge when it comes to gaming. The Sony seems like it will be really smooth and no jitter when it comes to panoramic shots. Samsung is slightly cheaper but that doesn’t bother me as I want to get the right one 👌🏻 I’ve had both a Samsung and Sony in the past and they were both great so it’s a difficult one… Thanks for your time!
@@shoppingtrolley1869 Motion is definitely a strong suit with Sony, but Samsung isn't bad though. Your right the Samsung will give you more when it comes to gaming mainly because of the brightness and HDR impact of QD-OLED you also get this with HDR in general even outside of game mode QD-OLED is just really good in that regard. Sony will have the better image processing in regards to cleaning up the image but Samsung isn't bad there, Sony just gives you more options. No DV isn't really a big deal IMO as HDR 10 and DV should look fairly similar in most cases. If your utilizing 2 HDMI 2.1 consoles and you also plan to use e-arc for a sound device you'll need a sound device that has a hdmi 2.1 port on it with a pass through or a hdmi 2.1 switcher if you go the Sony route. I say if you favor gaming and brightness go Samsung if you favor motion & image processing for content go Sony. Can't really go wrong with either IMO.
Ok KG, knowing that you have an A80J give us first wave XR buyers the facts…..how much of a difference does this new XR clear image make upon comparing? Would upgrade your A80J for this for the “clear image” alone?
It’s great and it can make an impact as it cleans up the video well but if it’s the same size I would wait on the upgrade because the A80J still performs really up to par, only upgrade if you wanted a bigger size. My personal advice though is to wait to upgrade A80J is great.
Thank you for responding and with that I’ll wait till the next round of Sony lineups….both you and Classy seem to agree that its not that much of a difference with processing, everyone else overhypes the image clear feature.
Probably not if its a one for one swap and no size upgrade is involved, only scenario I could see getting a A80L if I owned an A80K is if I wanted to put the A80K in another room and get a larger A80L.
I will be buying my first OLED and I can't decide between Sony A80L, LG C3 and Samsung S90C. I will be using it mainly for gaming. The C3 and S90C are both around $1300 and the A80L is around $1700. What's the best one between these three?
If its mostly just gaming perhaps the C3 may be better for you since all 4 hdmi ports have 2.1+VRR and has lowest input lag S90c I think is brighter of the 3 but personally I just don't like samsungs menus+software updates At the time I did have rhe choice between the c3 or a75l but I chose the a75l for the versatility (for me) since I do like Sonys picture processing and color and I like gaming and watching movies. But that's just me
I want the A 80L as well. A true OLED. Ive heard some problems with QD OLED and to me they don't look as good anyway. I was going to wait for 2024s to drop to see if its worth it, or buy the A80L for lower price. However heard rumors that Sony is ditching oleds for mini led. Hope this isnt true. Anyone else hear that or have some inside information? Also does VRR really make a huge difference in gaming on ps5? I currently have sony 900E from 2017, besides picture of course, will i notice a huge difference in performance especially in gaming?
I got the A80L. I love it. After I made the settings to my liking it is amazing. Don't listen to that stuff about it not being bright enough. It's plenty bright for me. It was on sale at Best buy few months ago so I got it. Great TV, I love Sony products
Do you think Sony will have other OLEDs later this year that have yet to be announced? Specifically, will they have an 83”? That size is missing with the Bravia 8. 👍
Sounds like your set on Sony if that’s the case between these it depends how much you want that extra brightness, there’s definitely a lot of pros that go with QD OLED. However the A75L for $1199 should be considered too if you already have good sound.

LG G3 or Sony A80L in 65" if they are close enough in pricing? Only to be used for OTT streaming & youtube. Need right balance of picture quality and sound (without soundbar for now).
G3 will be brighter for sure but Sony will have the clearer picture overall and I feel it has significantly better built in sound. Gotta figure out what matters the most to you.
@@TechWithKG thanks a lot for your response. @@frankcastle6298 don't know yet, it's being delivered this Saturday. But if it's like the s90c, which I'm being told it is, I love both the s90c and a80l.
I like Sony but man A80L is just not competitive compared to G3 and S90C/S95C. A80L is the same Price as G3 and S95C and that's a no go with 660 nits brightness. Let's hope Sony A80M will deliver competition to S90D and G4
I did a ton of content like an unboxing and overview for the A95L and most recently I did a full review it was in a similar style to this one. I also have a few comparisons with other top TVs.
I needed to properly expose my camera for that scene that’s my fault I wasn’t able to showcase the shadow detail but it is a strong suit of the A80L. With S90C and S95C I found that I actually had to lower the shadow detail because it was a bit too bright in the shadows on my units I had out of the box.
83” A80L for streaming content would be great and that picture quality will be hard to beat. Although 77” QD OLED will be brighter so it depends how much you desire a lot of brightness.
I was thinking of buying the A75L but am unsure of the size to get, i will be gaming and watching tv as well, my room is 12.5 feet long by 10ft wide and i will bet putting the tv on either end of the room. My viewing distance is 6 to 8 feet. I was thinking 55 inch because gaming might look better on a smaller screen, what do you think, or what would you do? I dont like the stand on the A75L are there any other options off brand that I could buy?
For that distance I’d definitely be going 65”. Could you mount the TV? If not ever look into a rolling mount stand and then putting a desk or media cabinet in front of it? I think it’s a cool look. If not there are other tabletop options but they all look pretty basic.
You will have a much better experience buying the Samsung 77S89C QD-OLED for $1800 over any WOLED tv. Why pay $900 more for the 77A80L which will be dimmer and less vibrant?
C3 isn’t usually as bright as A80L in content, and most of the time their brightness can look similar but there’s never a time where the A80L is significantly dimmer so you must have not maximized the brightness somehow only thing I can think of is maybe you had one of the eco settings enabled or the light sensor.
Sorry, KG! But AVForums agreed with rtings. Classy had the C3 set to 80 out of 100, and the A80l maxed out. In hdr AVForums said that the A80L dimmed the brightness down to maintain detail and was too dark. I noticed that you put the c3 up against other tvs to bash their sdr gaming, yet with the sony, you gave it praises without putting it up against the other tvs in a side by side comparison. Question? You couldn't recommend the c3 because of the s90c being priced the same. How is the a80l being priced a higher-priced television a great recommendation when lg's processing is so close to sony's? Multiple sources reported this fact. So is the a80l really worth the price hike or the competition? Is the a75l better than the c3 as well because it was priced the same as the s90c and c3?

My biggest concern was brightness but in person at Best Buy it looks great and i have owned a Sony tv before and the game mode does seem to look better and that’s my main use is for ps5
Maybe it will!? It’s already currently the best 55” OLED TV deal at $1199 it be very interesting to see it go down further though
@@TechWithKG I’ve been so tempted at that price to putt the trigger, I have seen some open box for under 1k so maybe I’ll keep an eye out there…just prefer the A80L stand for the low profile lol choices
Good review! Thanks!
Love my 83” a 80l
Kg if you had to choose between the 80l or b7 for movies gaming what would you choose?
A80L
What's the link for the settings on the a80l? Thanks for your videos.
looking to get an a80l or a bravia 8 ineed 65 any recommendations? help 🙏🏻
I'm watching movies and series via Apple TV 4K and 4K Blu-ray in a dark room. Which TV would you recommend going from an LG B7? The LG G3 or Sony A80L?
A80L
Own a 77 inch and love it. What do you set reality creation to for movie watching?
Really depends what I’m watching most modern stuff I leave it at default 20, if I’m watching something a bit older I go for 35-40.
Very helpful since I connect to an avr for sound anyway.
Nice video!
77 inch A80J vs the A80L????
Lets go!! 😆 🤣
Thanks!
Hi, I am torn between the SONY A80L and SAMSUNG S90C.
Which one do you think is better??
Both in the 77” version!
What’s your main focus with your tv? What picture quality advantages are you looking for?
@@TechWithKG thanks for replying! I’m literally ready to go buy one tomorrow…
It’s for playing PS5 and also Nintendo Switch and I want to watch streaming services like Netflix, Disney+ so I want the best possible picture for future proofing.
(Does that sound like a good plan?)
The only thing that worries me about the Samsung is:
•the reported motion stutter
•no Dolby vision
I know that the Samsung has the QD instead of Sonys W which seems like a better spec and also the Samsung seems to have the edge when it comes to gaming.
The Sony seems like it will be really smooth and no jitter when it comes to panoramic shots.
Samsung is slightly cheaper but that doesn’t bother me as I want to get the right one 👌🏻
I’ve had both a Samsung and Sony in the past and they were both great so it’s a difficult one…
Thanks for your time!
If you already have a A80K, is it worth getting a A80L or are they pretty much the same? Cheers KG
If its mostly just gaming perhaps the C3 may be better for you since all 4 hdmi ports have 2.1+VRR and has lowest input lag
S90c I think is brighter of the 3 but personally I just don't like samsungs menus+software updates
At the time I did have rhe choice between the c3 or a75l but I chose the a75l for the versatility (for me) since I do like Sonys picture processing and color and I like gaming and watching movies. But that's just me
I have the same problem! Between the A80L and S90C… What are you going to buy?
Hi sir
Sony x90l 65inch
Sony a 80l 65 inch
Best tv please tell me
A80L between those 2 big quality advantage imo.
@@TechWithKG only the best tv
I want the A 80L as well. A true OLED. Ive heard some problems with QD OLED and to me they don't look as good anyway. I was going to wait for 2024s to drop to see if its worth it, or buy the A80L for lower price. However heard rumors that Sony is ditching oleds for mini led. Hope this isnt true. Anyone else hear that or have some inside information? Also does VRR really make a huge difference in gaming on ps5? I currently have sony 900E from 2017, besides picture of course, will i notice a huge difference in performance especially in gaming?
What did you end up getting? I have 900E from 2017 as well thinking about upgrading this year.
No I don’t see it and they are carrying over the 83” A80L as a 2024 model.
I’m deciding between a 55” A95L($2500) or A80L($1400). What do you think?
Sounds like your set on Sony if that’s the case between these it depends how much you want that extra brightness, there’s definitely a lot of pros that go with QD OLED. However the A75L for $1199 should be considered too if you already have good sound.
@@TechWithKG I went with the A95L, and it’s incredible!
@@Kung_Fu_Kenny Nice! Grats on an awesome TV it was by far my favorite TV last year.
@@TechWithKGI just bought an x85k 55 inches a few days before Super Bowl… I’m returning it next week for the 75l.. it’s 25% off from the original sticker price… I would love to get the 80l but no discount at all? Don’t care about the stand not being premium and the sound compared to the 80l, there is no such thing as perfect TV. Could use the $400 difference to buy something like a Sony stock ..upgrading from a Vizio 32 inch 720p bought 10 years ago lol…not a lot of reviews on the a75l I understand as it was just released late 2023 I guess, but I find your video helpful so thank you so much..
Yup A75L pretty much is an A80L in pictures quality. Huge upgrade for you from a Vizio grats!
I am inclined towards A80L since beginning of my search but brightness has been made such a big deal in review videos that I got confused and then LG G3 came in picture as comparison. But my preference still remains the picture quality and sound over brightness.
@@TechWithKG I have arrived on the decision that I will go for Sony for sure. So what would you recommend? 75" X90L or 65" A80L for OTT streaming (movies & series) to upgrade from 50" LED TV? My priority is picture quality and sound.
Could you do a settings video for these models? Would be appreciated.
If you look at my A80J A80K settings on this channel they will translate quite well, nothing has changed as far as settings adjustment values.
Like the point about the brightness measurements. Test patterns aren't the best representation of real world content.
@TechWithKG thx for informatic video , I'm stock between 65 in A80L vs 75 inch X93L ,generally the blue hue over A80L bothers me but i cant Denay the the fact i need pure black as well . plz advice me
I don’t really notice a blue hue with the A80L personally, it really comes down to how far are you sitting down you need that 75 inches?
@@TechWithKG 65inch is good enough but having bigger size has emergence effect as well . btw i seat at 12 feet usually.
Yeah 12 feet is pretty far from the tv I think I’d actually go 75 x93l or if you have the space for it I’d probably be doing 85 X90L
Thanks for this video new subscriber here. I just got a 55 and love it . I have an Apple TV 4 k on it and it automatically adjusted itself when I turned it on and I think it looks great. I am lost as far as what to do about settings though . I was disappointed There’s so much hate coming from some of the settings channels I knew about so do you all know any good settings. I’m new to all this so I am lost lol.
I have a settings video for Sony from last year that talks through every picture setting. That would still apply to these models.
Awesome thank you so much!
A80L or G3 for mostly cable tv (1080i), youtube and ps5 gaming. I have sound system so dont care about the speakers. Thanks
Oh and G3 in my country for 65 inch is 200 euro cheaper.
Sir can you plz tell me when u want to sell I can’t able to buy this is one of from my dream😢
I have A80L it has some audio issue that while playing any vlogs on youtube it has some dot sound, while anyone facing😢😢
Thanks
Went to best buy earlier, wanted to check out the s89c, turns out they don’t have it in store. Anyway, I saw someone grabbing the a80l, couldn’t help but think they just saw this video. I did end up purchasing the s89c, even though I just recently got the a80l as well, but the damn deal is too good.
How does the S89C compare to the A80L?
@@frankcastle6298 don't know yet, it's being delivered this Saturday. But if it's like the s90c, which I'm being told it is, I love both the s90c and a80l.
I like Sony but man A80L is just not competitive compared to G3 and S90C/S95C.
A80L is the same Price as G3 and S95C and that's a no go with 660 nits brightness.
Let's hope Sony A80M will deliver competition to S90D and G4
That’s real!
The A80L is not the same price as the G3 and the S95C, those two TVs are about 1000.00 more than the A80L at the same size.
SONY ✌🏻
Can you please do this style of video for the A95L?
I did a ton of content like an unboxing and overview for the A95L and most recently I did a full review it was in a similar style to this one. I also have a few comparisons with other top TVs.
@@TechWithKG Roger that.
Thanks
8:12 That’s a ton of black crush! Just comparing what I see on my S95C. You’re losing a lot of detail.
Does this has Filmmakers Mode?
No but it has custom mode which is going to be close to a filmmaker mode you’re not gonna miss filmmaker mode
SDR 🔆 for the win 🙌
it's so hard to choose from 83inch C3, A80l, and 77inch qd-oled Samsungs. 100% streaming content.
83” A80L for streaming content would be great and that picture quality will be hard to beat. Although 77” QD OLED will be brighter so it depends how much you desire a lot of brightness.
I was all set on 83in C3 until I came across your videos ! =) @@TechWithKG
@TechWithKG thanks for the help bro!
65" A95L or 85" X93L ? not sure I can go back to non OLED but I want 80+" TV without selling a kidney.
Between those 2. Always go 85 in that situation imo.
I have this tv it won’t turn on anymore after a month of using it
Did u say. This is a “WOLED”. ??
This is a WRGB OLED yes
You will have a much better experience buying the Samsung 77S89C QD-OLED for $1800 over any WOLED tv. Why pay $900 more for the 77A80L which will be dimmer and less vibrant?
Agreed. The S89c/S90c is superior to this Sony and less expensive. A no brainer really.
Why would purist by Samsung?
Where's the game mode?
It should automatically detect it when you connect but if it doesn’t when you are within an hdmi source just change the picture mode to game.
Had the A80L for two weeks. Processing is great but it’s way too dim. The C3 is much better in that regard.
