Did the cooler itself screws were painted blue? I saw they were on some videos and that will void the warranty then
Thanks for your guide. For me, the CPU temperature dropped from over 90 to about 80 degrees. I'm happy :)
Excellent!
Meanpooh you're the best, I have the same processor and gpu as you on my nitro 5, repasted it with the kryonaut this morning and no longer hitting 93° when running a cine bench test, 86° to 89°, also have a laptop stand for airflow, fans on auto not max, coolboost enabled
Glad the video helped you out! BTW, congrats on you successful temp drop.👍
Just repasted and it totally helped!!! I was afraid the pink liquid thermal stuff might mess up, but it's not throttling anymore!
Congratulations on your success. Your machine should run a bit smoother and be able to reach higher clock speeds now.👍
I am also worried about the vram thermal paste , your system running good
@@Akbarali-ik1sc The temps are back up again and I'm going to repaste again. Maybe I didn't use enough. I used Nactua as well
@@Francisco-Danconia Also I repasted again with thermal grizzy. Now it is like 36-38 degree Celsius at 29 degree room temperature. The fans are useless:)
Hi! Thanks a lot for the guide. I attempted to repaste my Nitro 5 yesterday, but when I tried to flip the heatsink, something somewhere sparked!! I was scared as hell and quickly put it all back together. Thankfully my laptop didn't break and everything is running fine but I'm afraid to do it again
I hope you removed the battery. Nothing should spark.
Brave man opening a laptop w/o disconnecting the battery lol
As always a great guide. I repasted mine today and it seems to have made a noticeable difference. Thank you for posting this.
You're welcome!
Just replaced my thermal paste and I got a huge improvement, my temperatures where always around 70-80°C, now the maximum its 54°C. definitely worth it. Thanks a lot for the tutorial.
Nice im litteraly about to do this right now because mine spikes over 100 sometimes 😭
Yo congrats on 4K subs

Thank you so much 😀Would have never made it if it wasn't for you guys! I'm grateful for it.
You deserve it and more
I just wanted to share with you guys my personal experience re-pasting my Acer Nitro 5.
Its quite an easy task if you have the appropriate tools. Removing everything such as the fans the cables for the WiFi card and all the connectors like for the battery and fans was a very easy process. I highly recommend checking out how to efficiently remove and apply thermal paste in detail. I personally used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut thermal paste and my results are notorious. For example, games such as COD MW would have my CPU running anything from 90-95 in the lowest settings. after this job i get temperatures of anything from 80-85 in normal settings. Same thing with CSGO high settings would be anything from 90C after applying thermal paste temperatures did decrease at around 80C. Repasting your laptop is something I highly recommend doing. If you guys have any questions you can lmk
I know im late with commenting on you, but i just want to ask, is the paste still doing a good job after a year? Because i hear a lot of people saying that thermal grizzly kryonaut is not good for longetivity
@@Mohoutje015 yea, the problem about kryonout it's dont have long lasting, they have better perfomance but you have to repaste every 2-4 months because dry so much
I have a question but it's not about repasting. Do you know any specific ram that's compatible with the acer nitro 5 2021? I'm looking to upgrade to 16gb of ram but I don't know if there's any specific brand that you'd recommend? The speed of the ram that I currently have is 2933mhz
You are the man!!! It works!!!
WOW... That's like 20 Degrees difference.
Thanks for this info... Definitely going to repaste mine.
BTW, why does your video show a "newer" version of the Nitro 5 compared to what's in your Description?
There's a note that says "Check Bestbuy for New Model and good deals."

I dont understand how to safely ground myself also i dont have desktop for touching can u tell any alternate solutions so be in the safe side
This is what I've been wondering too.
Lol touch litteraly everything that is made of metal.
I like how I got the 2020 Model since it has quad dual fans for better cooling.
Enserio los cables están en ese lugar? Acaso a los de Acer no se les ocurrió ponerlos en otro lugar? Madre mía, buen video meanpooh esto le sirve a muchos. Like!
Estoy de acuerdo, desearía que fueran colocados en un área diferente o enrutados de manera alternativa.
Supongo que si quitara ese cable grande hubiera sido más fácil, pero como dije, no estoy familiarizado con él.

the fact that your laptop also has that strange oil y darker stuff makes me feel better about my one
I have 2019 version and the temps are reaching 95C when I play only for a few minutes, not even 5 minutes. Ordered Grizzly Thermal Grease and hope that it works since undervolt didn't give me the results I expected

hey meanpooh first my congrats for 4k and about ur new nitro laptop 💕 I know u love this model from Acer but unfortunately, I have a new problem with the laptop and if u forgot my ver it
was: AN515-51 and my problem is the overheating am not talking here about the CPU and GPU degree
am just feeling the heating going throw my hand from the keyboard and am just can't play with that much of heating on the keyboard and about my CPU and GPU degree the CPU around 80 to 90 on the heavy use and GPU it's about 70 to 79 also on the heavy use I know this is not a sweet spot for the heating but still reasonable I think so what's the reason about the keyboard heating i hope u help me again, sir 🥺
You temps are normal if not better than some. The high temps are from the CPU and GPU on the other side. The only thing you can do is get an external KB and thank you for the congrats! 🙌
@@Meanpooh What u mean from the other side! is that even possible? and is there's any solution without the external kb?
I searched about this problem but i think am the only one who have it

This model of the laptop's killing me literally
a lot of problems in this machine
thx anyway meanpooh

Thank you. 👍
Hey winnie the meanpooh.
Yes.......
hi, i have a question, what screwdriver did you use to unscrew the cooling screws.
How was the longevity? I wanna repaste but not more than like every third year. I've heard that kryonaut's good performance only lasts like 3 months or so on laptops.
Hello i have the same screwdriver as yours but i can't seem to get the other screws in the heatsink to go out for it is very tough any advice?
what software did you use?
Did you already figure out what pads it needs?
I want to do it with mine. my CPU gets up to 100°C and throttles.
I have an Acer Predator Triton 300 with the same specs. Do you think repasting would help?
Did you unplug the battery?
Edit: Never mind
Do you also need to replace the pink thermal pads?
In the old acer nitro 5, If I want to clean fans separatly, should I remove the heatsink too?
Can you make a video about clean laptop fans? Beacuse when i was cleaning my desktop (shitty) PC, i broke the CPU fan and now i'm scared to broke that kind of fan on the acer.
(Sorry for the bad english)
I've done a repaste and ram upgrade exactly like you've done on yours - my highest cpu temp under heavy load (gaming) is about 89c deg. Think that's good or bad? It averages between 50-75c when gaming and bounces between 49 and 60c when using generally (browsing or photoshop). I use a cooling pad too, which helps a ton. Anything else you recommend?
Congrats, that's a good temp. I think you've covered all the bases on trying to cool. If everything is fine then I wouldn't even undervolt.
@@Meanpooh Thanks buddy! I've been a bit paranoid about temps since I've repasted but your vid has helped a lot since I've moved over to this laptop - I've been so used to desktop rigs all these years! I only run some racing sims with Assetto Corsa being pretty heavy all round, AMS takes from the cpu a bit - NR2003 is quite old and I get crazy fps with it but mods do take out a lot from the cpu which is where the 89c temp has come from. Witcher III runs smooth on high but isn't overkill either as far as I can tell. Also did the battery thing to 99% as well, but I usually run everything on performance instead of balanced - think that could raise any issues? or leave it as is? Does the "cool boost" in nitrosense help at all or does it degrade the fans any btw?
Also nice to see someone from the 502 :)
Lol this is satisfying
I think it will be for a lot of people. It's quite infuriating having it run decent when you first get it then all of of sudden temps start to go up. I had mentioned in another video that it seems like the grease has broken down or something.
Amazing guide, I will try this week to do it. I bought the I5 version with rtx 3060 but I reach 94 temperature unluckily, but I bought it on March 2021 and the temperature was high since the beginning.. should you really recommend to do it? Because I don't know the cause of this heating, maybe acer uses a very bad thermal paste
Changing your thermal paste will help with temperatures as well as using Throttlestop to undervolt. Undervolting would be the first thing I would try which is very effective.
@@Meanpooh I tried.. but I have the bios locked about undervolting lock: on .. I can only try to repaste
@@marcoatzeri3451 Hello, I know this is a bit late, but I had that problem with my Nitro 5 as well. Do you run your Nitrosense settings on High Performance every time you game? Because I have noticed that under the same workload, my Nitro 5 on Balance mode while plugged into AC would only max at 82 to 82 degrees, while the exact same workload on High Performance mode would allow me to reach 90-94 degrees so I just kept using it on Balanced mode ever since and it never throttled.
@@seb.evidente7328 no problema! I’m using throttlestop with the turbo boost power Limit at 34W, the temperature now are manageable and I reach a maximum pick of 86.
It depends by the game, but with cyberpunk at maximum performance I reach max 79-81
No throttling now, no fps decrease
Totally satisfied
Dumb question - what strength/percent isopropyl alcohol did you use? I need to do this (I'd send it in to have them do it but I'm under quarantine for the rona ;-;)

I'm going to repaste my acer nitro 5. And im curious how long does the kryonaut stay on the cpu. But we are going to see in the future.
Not sure. I had one with Kryonaut and it lasted 2 years.
Is thermaltake massive 20 rgb good for this laptop? If yes I’ll buy it.
I don't think it will help because of the placement of the fans. It might cool the bottom but that's about it.
Hello all, i have newest acer nitro 5 model 2020 with Intel core i7-10750H, 16GB RAM, Nvidia RTX 2060 6GB. From the box i tried games without anything. On The Walking dead : Definitive Series = after 15 minutes max pick temperature on CPU 92 degrees celsius. I bought cooling pad Cooler Master Notepal U3 Plus. After this in The Walking dead game after one hour approx. max pick 80 - 85 degrees celsius. So i was really glad and happy that this "external" option worked for me. But ! I installed Battlefield 5. Settings : Full HD 144hz, ULTRA, RTX off - approx. 90FPS during game, after half an hour max pick in temperature on HWmonitor 99 degrees celsius !!! So. I had at home Thermal Grizzly - Kryonaut (i am from middle Europe and this paste is pretty normal to buy everywhere here). I forgot about my warranty and repasted CPU and GPU with Kryonaut. After this, with paste and cooling pad FANs on MAX RPM - after half an hour BF5 max pick in HW monitor 97 degrees celsiu with Thermal throttling on every core. Frankly i am pretty lost what is going on and pretty upset because this notebook has very, very nice performance in games but those temperatures are extremly high. I have checked Intel XTU but my CPU is not supported (yet ??? i hope) and i do not want to do under volt in BIOS. Currently i am thinking about modification this Notepal U3 for some better FANs because i think passive cooling helped more than those three pretty weak FANs. But i am pretty lost in this case also. MEANPOOH, or someone some advice for me ? I will appreciate it. My speicif model of Nitro 5 is : AN517-52 (NH.Q8KEC.002) Thanks. P.S : Meanpooh you have got subscribe from me :-) Thx for help with repasting this laptop in this video. GJ
Speed Shift in Throttlestop will work for you but repasting should have helped. I repasted my machine and it worked perfectly, no throttling.
Yep.
@@Meanpooh Hi. Yesterday i looked at this shiftspeed in Throttlestop. I wanted to ask what does it do ? And what numbers should i, in my case use ? Because there is range from 0 to 255. However, i managed solve this issue different way or maybe the same way just from another route. I downloaded Intel XTU and yes, there was mearly all features locked (like overcloking and undervolting etc.) without one. TURBO BOOST. I found issue with my temprature on CPU is within Turbo Boost feature. I do not know why, but default by manufacturer there was Turbo Boost set to 75W (which is little bit strange because officialy Intel writing on their website that maximum for this type of CPU in Turbo Boost is 45W) and temporary Turbo Boost was 107W. I played with this feature and set it to 25W temporary boost of power and only ! 20W to TURBO BOOST. 1 hour of gaming BF5 average temperature on CPU was 75 degrees celsius, max pick was 83 degress celius only for a second. After 1 hour without thermal throttling on any of cores. So it looks this solved temperature issue and without any significant loss in game performance (i did not see any FPS drops in BF5). In The Walking Dead Definitive Series temperature after whole one episode was average 70 degress celsiu on CPU and Max pick 78. Maybe this will help someone else, who experiencing issues with temperatures in Acer Nitro 5.
Great work, that is one way of fixing it. You just limited the power to the CPU. The same as speed shift but not as extreme.
Good advice.
How often should I rethermal? Should I also change the liquid pads?
I would repaste if temperatures will not come down or they are near 60C idle. Once you get a baseline on where your temperatures should be then repaste at your leisure. Regular gaming at least once a year. Replace thermal pads especially if they are brittle.
What's the PL1 and PL2 for your laptop set at? My nitro 5 seems to set at 70w and 107w and it runs real hot.
Undervolting not supported.
Would the results be similar to the i7 10750H? How many degrees does the automatic fan get? I am using Nitro 5 2020 with i7 10750H and 1660 Ti.
Hey, I have the exact same laptop which I bought a month ago. My temps are quite high (CPU temps only, GPU temps are normal (around 70-75 under max usage). Probably around 85-95 (cpu temp) - that's on either high performance, acer balanced, or balanced. The only thing that reduces CPU temps is putting it on power saver, which in some games doesn't drop any FPS, but in the worst case maybe a max decrease of 10 fps. On power saver, CPU temps are in the high 60s / low 70s. I'm certain that repasting will yield similar results to this video (an approx decrease of 10 degrees). I want to do it, but I'm still under warranty and am happy playing on power saver mode as the FPS is still great!
@@prathameshkshirsagar4955 I think this is normal for the laptop, nothing to be worried about.

im thinking of doing this because my laptop has some heat issues, but i have some questions. 1. Is thermal grease the same thing as thermal paste? If not what are the differences and can i use thermal paste? Also, for the 11 screws are all the screws the same type of screw?

That's what, it's thermal throttling on full power, so a repaste is what you need. My triton is exactly showing such behavior. Repasting it with the Corsair TM30. Will share the results as I won't be using kryonaut.

Set Minimum processor state to 5-10%.
Expand Maximum processor state and modify both On battery and Plugged in to 99%.

103 is too warm and I'm surprised that it has not shut down on you. Before repasting check and see if you still have warranty and then start a chat with Acer. What temps?
@@Meanpooh actually i think i fixed it now i just pressed the thermal paste on it and it lowered temps last time i didn't
Im planning to upgrade my ram on my nitro 5 with 3200mhz 16gb, right now my ram is 2933mhz 8gb variant can i change it to 3200mhz?
You can use the 3200 but it will downclock.
@@Meanpooh I'm fine with that as long as the ram adds up from 8 to 16gb
Hi all! I made my repaste and everything seems to be fine, but my computer every day in the morning now it makes some kind of boot cycle , I cant tell the issue, but when it turns on windows wont let me use the pin code because of multiples shutdowns? before repasting I install a HDD and it did it once, but now it is constant , what could it be? (in te morning because after that cycle it dont make it againg after the next day)
Are you still having that problem?
@@Meanpooh hello thanks for asking!Well yesterday I went back to the fans and heat sink, I notice some screws needed to be tighten , I did , and also updated the bios, today on cold boot, it worked just fine, I hope it continues that way, I made a ticket to Acer but I hate to deal with customer services.
@@KmanFlyDrone Great work on fixing the issue. That was what i was gonna ask. If the CPU or GPU does not have a tight fit, it will heat up quickly. Anyway, great work! 👍
I actually did this with my 2021 nitro 5 with a 3060rtx. Unfortunately it still thermal throttles on NFS Heat... But on stress tests lasting over 40 minutes and it never thermal throttles. No idea what else to do. I cant undervolt since the cpu is locked. Forgot to mention i tested Mass Effect Andromeda max settings for 20 minutes and it didnt thermal throttle. So not sure whats going on. Oh and i get constant power and current limits. Only have the laptop 2 months now and used it lile 5 times. Its a new purchase. Any help would be amazing.
Hello, I know this is a bit late, but I had that problem with my Nitro 5 as well. Do you run your Nitrosense settings on High Performance every time you game? Because I have noticed that under the same workload, my Nitro 5 on Balance mode while plugged into AC would only max at 82 to 82 degrees, while the exact same workload on High Performance mode would allow me to reach 90-94 degrees so I just kept using it on Balanced mode when I gamed ever since and it never throttled.
@@seb.evidente7328 hey! I actually didn't test the battery settings the way you did, but for check out the Nitrosense settings. I always kept it on high performance mode and my fan speeds were sort of Medium to high. Mainly for my cpu fan but gpu fan was on default. I find my cpu boils but gpu is chilled. The i7 10750h heats up majorly. On a side note, i managed to unlock my cpu for use in throttlestop. My temps never exceed 75 degrees when gaming. Its odd though cause most times my temps are like 67 to 75 degrees and my keyboard feels like it wants to melt. Mostly by the keypad and to f keys.
@@FaeezHendricks very interesting, I wonder what would happen if u performed tbose stress tests on Balanced mode?
@@seb.evidente7328 i actually ran Call of duty Warzone for an hour on balanced a few minutes ago and i was hitting 69 degrees up to 75 degrees again. Never went past 75. I also maxed out my fans in Nitrosense. I think to improve thermals i might need to look at replacing thermal pads. I already have Thermal Grizzly on my cpu though. Oh i forgot to mention before i undervolted my laptop was throttling after 5 minutes of gaming. Was always hitting 80 degrees up to 98 degrees. I definitely see more consistent performance now.
Hey Pooh if I repaste my acer nitro 5 will it stop it from overheating?
Yes.
Meanpooh thanks much appreciated I just bought the acer and it overheats when it’s connected to the charger
Is 1 gram of Grizzly Kryonaut enough for the acre nitro 5 repaste?
Yes.
@@Meanpooh I just got my acer nitro 5 repasted I used the Corsair XTM50 high performance thermal paste it drop my gpu temp from 76 to 67 Celsius in playing gta 5 ultra graphics setting w Visual V graphics mod i was thinking of buying the thermal grizzly but it was not on Best Buy instead I bought the Corsair XTM50 5grams for $14.99 I know thermal grizzly was better thermal paste but I need to immediately fix my thermal throttling issue
But still thanks without this video idk if I can do it laptops are very hard to apply thermal paste desktop is easy to repaste you just need to remove the cooler
Thank you so much❤️
Congratulations man on a successful repaste.👍. There is nothing wrong with using a different thermal alternate. If it gets the job done then that's all that matters. I have some old TM30 around here somewhere and it looks like the one you got is an improved formula. I agree the desktop is easier, especially when it comes to access. Again Congratulations and you are welcome!
How many millimeters thickness of thermal pad should I use?
Just by eyeballing they look to be 1mm. I would have to measure.
@@Meanpooh any update?
Repasted acer nitro 5 9300h with kryonaut few hours back and it still thermal throttles and i really dont know how to fix this issue. The vrm chips thermal pads were like a thick paste when i renoved for repasting. How do i fix my laptop cz I couldn’t game as the fps drops
Did you replace the thermal pads? This will cause a rise in temps. You should also try undervolting as well.
@@Meanpooh havent changed the thermal pads but it looks like it has a lot of thermal paste on it
My vem chips exactly looks like yours
I just put a peas sized drop and it still goes to 93 c
That's interesting, give it a day or so to see if it settles.
That is kryonaut right?
Yes.
When u don't damage anything, u won't void warranty
That's pretty much common sense at this point.
@@Meanpooh true
i repasted but situation got worsen
Hello, can I use the same thermal paste on GPU & CPU to VRAM (Pink paste)?
You can use the same thermal paste on CPU and GPU. You cannot use thermal grease(Liquid Metal, arctic Silver) on VRAM. You have to use either replacement Thermal pads or a very viscous thermal paste. It’s almost as thick putty. Some versions are a vanilla color or pink in color.
@@Meanpooh I finished repaste my thermal paste for Nitro 5 AN515-45 the other day, thank you for your video :)
@@danny1661 You are welcome!
U actually said cpu when u cleaned gpu...gpu is never a square...
Are you some kind of stupid? Did you not see the words NVIDIA in the SQUARE GPU?
Can I also replace that pink paste?
Yes, use K5 Pro. It's a bit messy but it works.
@@Meanpooh OK thanks for response. Can I use thermal pads instead of K5 Pro?
@@maraxen4612 Yes. It's tricky so trial and error may come into play when it comes to thickness and where to put the pads.
@@Meanpooh okay thank you
Your warranty already voided?
I would say so.
@@Meanpooh is the temperature bad? Do you use cooling pad?
I think the thermal grease is bad. No cooling pad.
Will a cooling pad be good and contriubte to cooler temps? Also is there a slot for a vaccum cooler to be used?
A cooling pad will help. Never used vacuum cooler. I guess you could make it work.
i did it but only the gpu got a lot cooler but the cpu still goes to 92-94 when playing games but at least it was lessen by 6 celsius XDD
lol good job.. worth jeopardizing the warranty.
You got that right. No more throttling and being able to have your cores run full speed!
Nahh Im Good....Just A Bit Scared XD
I wanna repaste it too. I got Acer Nitro 5 AN515-44-R99Q 2020 but I don’t want to void my warranty or risk damaging my laptop. Plus it seems tedious
