I'm too scared to remove the keys on my laptop, because this is my only good laptop I have that isn't falling apart XD
Don't... I broke mine
blaze that’s sad
@@AnshBSS yeah... :'( the "X" shaped mechanism on my ThinkPad's ⬅️ key broke. I just replaced it with the PgUp key's mech. DONE
God I’m scared one of my keys have crumbs in them and i don’t know what to do and it may be my last laptop
@@thatskaeru the ThinkPad was dad's laptop. I got a new acer, and my worst nightmare is when dog hair is about to enter the keys 😂 it's a very beefy laptop, but not the most well built. So imma just... Buy a lame silicon cover or something

Well, I have already broken 3 keys with this method, I truly am a boss
Legend!!!! I have been having this problem where some keys wouldn't press. I simply took 'em out using your method and put them back, now they work! So thanks man, now writing essays won't take years and playing Among Us will be so much easier now I can type.
Heyy how do u put them back in?
I have two suggestions, first to the author, second to the visitors. First, the introduction of a removed key and the introduction of the receiving mechanism would be a plus especially with close large zoom. Much easier to remove a key if I know the fixing method. Unfortunately the fixing is not symmetrical and starting on the wrong side results in break. To avoid this I give my second advice to the visitors. If the opening side of the key is not known, then start with very gentle force somewhere AND go around in circle direction. If the first circle was not successful, repeat the trying with a very little larger force. And finally, I suggedt using plastic tool instead of metal screwdriver.
When the first key is out, study the fixing method and then you can use the force at the proper location.
Hey thanks.
same, cuz when i pressed "w" too much it stopped working LOL
Thanks a lot! For some reason the keycaps of my laptop keep being randomly too hard to press. But by removing them the problem is solved!
They're probably acting like a suction cup and air is getting stuck in them. Removing them releases the air. Just a bad design. Maybe try poking a tiny pin hole, but that's just a guess and really not advising it lol
Getting them back on is a different story.
putting them back is a cake, but i struggled witth the enter key
@@ayshafaridullah7798 is it really easy to put the keys back on?
It's actually pretty easy you just push it until you here a clicking sound

I tried removing one of my keys to clean it but I didn't realize there was a stabilizer/staple looking thing connected to it, so I thought I broke it. Almost gave me a heart attack. xD
ok but how do i tell if there's "unusual" resistance, it's not like i know what usual resistance is-
If its harder than usual to remove. Sorry for the late reply.
@@thekingkappa0 but those of us who dont commonly remove laptop keys don't know what "harder than usual" feels like
@@thekingkappa0 you literally just rephrased what this dude said...
unusual resistance means that if the keys do not come of easily. If you have to apply force then do not remove. You have to remove laptop keys delicately, otherwise there is a high chance of them breaking. Hope I helped.
Thank you! That saved me a lot of hassle with my space bar. Note to other electronics students: Don't don't strip your breadboard link wire near your laptop! Plastic sheath has a nasty habit of rolling into and under space bars!
Thank you for the tutorial. This really helped me a lot. I thought I broke something (I was removing the star button to remove a large particle of dust which I saw go inside while cleaning), but luckily I didn't break anything. After I cleaned inside I snapped the key back into its place. It was quite satisfying to hear the 2 clicks when it snapped bacl into place. Cheers
Yeah, it's just not coming off. I feel if I apply any more pressure it'll break and not snap back on again.
Not very helpful.
I’m assuming he’s giving the wink indicating he lost the other eye prying off those keys
😂😂😂
Really useful! Underneath my keys are crusty as hell so this helped a lot.
Thank you for this. My "M" ket would get stuck and make very annoying POP when it returned to its resting position. I popped the key cap off and there was some little tiny glob of mystery goo that was causing this. All fixed!!
people please know that these methods have a high chance on perminately damaging your laptop.
please consider this tutorial i created for cleaning that is totally safe if you have spilled something sticky:
.get a thin edged sturdy material (thin edge of scissors, cream tubes etc.).
.cover the edge yo are using in a thin layer of alchohol\hand sanitiser.
.gently insert into the edge of the key and rub back and forwards a few times.
.do this for all four sides
.if the key is still a bit stiff repeat this process
have a good day :)
nice
Cover what edge with sanitizer

Broke off 2 of my laptop keys now I have to replace the whole keyboard panel. Good video
I was a little worried doing this on my own laptop but i had success 👍🏾. Helpful video
It's amazing how many doifferent styles of key retainers they used on these. i have watched 20 different ones and none are like mine. I have ordered one keyboard and it was the right one ;)
Thank you! I had some trouble with one of my keys and I was just too scared, I thought I would break something but It didint.
instructions unclear. now I don't know how to put them back.
😂😂😂😂
I actually broke my left CTRL key trying to remove it. I thought I was very careful (and I'm usually good with electronics), and I used a plastic credit card but the keys are incredibly damn fragile. Thankfully it was under warranty so just had them fixed.... Never again will I try to remove it.
Buy something from ifixit. Don’t use a credit card.
yeah just use compressed air
Worked good on my HP Pavillion, the keycap snapped out much like in the video and the supports didn't seem to break.
A lot of people forgot to leave a like for this helpful doc, so reader, I encourage you to leave the thumbs up!
Worked on my HP pavillion too. I was disappointed that the user docs didnt have any instructions for this.
WARNING! Doing this on any Assus laptop keyboard with units post 2020 is going to have a chance of breaking the bottom right slider holder on these cheapo keyboards. Doesn't matter how expensive the unit is, they've done something and now they're even cheaper than normal chiclets are.
I advise putting your index finger with the tip about middle of the keycap and give some back pressure as you pull up. Second advise is to use something that reaches under the key's lip, to put pressure about one third of the way. A bent piece of sturdy wire or one of those little ear wax remover "spoons" is what i found to work best, while putting the upwards (removing pressure) on the top right corner, then center. DO NOT let the pressure of removal put force on the bottom of the keycap, that's where it breaks. If you have see through keycaps, you can see exactly what you're doing with this move, and it's to disengage the clasps on the top of the keycap individually rather than making it pop in one go.
My key kept spamming whenever I tried holding it longer after its release. But when I took the key off I noticed there’s a slight hair underneath it. The problem was solved from removing it.
... Gently it says in the video... gotta apply a little more than gentle pressure to these HP ENVY 17 keys. I knocked over a 44oz Dr. Pepper onto my keyboard of my new 2K$ laptop... But wait there's more!!! i decided i needed coffee after that... Yup, you guessed it... had to throw some coffee on there too. Dr. Pepper wasn't enough. But hey... i'm typing on it now. keys are just sticky AF... Thanks for the video.... I do recommend this laptop... I mean it stood up to hot and cold sugary drinks... Plus if all else fails, it's touch screen.
nice joke fam xD
No joke dude. Still typing on it now. After i googled a little more about it. i turned my laptop off. used rubbing alcohol to clean the keyboard and broke my volume down key... but ya it does work like when i bought it now. No more drinks around the laptop... thats my new rule. (as i have a cup of coffee on my right currently)... But ya in all seriousness... i don't see how this thing still works. Really nice laptops i guess. it was worth 2k for my accidents alone.
Hey me too does this works? My keyboard keys are sticky if i press it it slowly goes back.. im thinking of removing and clean it but is it worth the risk?
Man. out of all the keys on my laptop. i only broke 1. my volume down button... It was a fuckin pain in the ass bro. no bullshit. What i would do... if i was you, Turn your laptop off. if you can remove the battery do that. So you don't accidentally turn it back on.... Then i would get rubbing alcohol. and spray it on your keyboard. make sure not to turn your laptop ON while it's wet. it might short it out. as long as it's dry when you turn it back on. You will be okay. i would just scrub the keyboard with rubbing alcohol. don't like... pour it on there tho... just a light mist or put some on a rag and ring it out... don't drench your keyboard. then when you are done scrubbing it. i would gently take a blow dryer to it... thats just me tho bro.
Thanks im thinking does crc spray remove the sugary thingy??
Almost replaced my laptop keyboard because of some dust, thanks man
Im tired of these crums all over my laptop this video helped me fr just be aware that its gonna actually fling when you remove em. Putting em back is a piece of cake,my nails hurted after this becuz on how short it is just need sum long nails for that, each corner has its slick that sticks the key 4 of em and also small keys too so. When you feel like its gonna break go to another slick or if its your last slick to remove, press down the key that is under the key to remove it ez
For the Razer Blade Stealth just apply lifting pressure from the very bottom of the key. Once the two holding clips have released on the bottom, then pull the key down towards the trackpad and it'll be free.
im so scared, is it safe ?
@@anjlooo If you do it slowly and very carefully, yes. You'd have to put a lot of force into it to break the keyboard connection, though if you pull just a little too hard you may break the connections on the key itself and have to buy a replacement key.
Oh great. How does it go back on?! xD
thekaitylue put it back on 🤦♂️
@@GoreHumanPudding it wont stay back on now
@@statickeepit100 it will it will pop back on
@@statickeepit100 Maybe you broke the white part which it attaches to
It will grow back
Remember, even if you think you broke something because you heard a crack, you most likely didn't. Most keyboards of laptops are just like that, so don't worry! Pushing on the key a couple of times will put it right back in place. You should again hear a few cracks then.
Yippie! Thanks -- this plus the replace key video did the trick -- O key working again! (part of the key clip had broken off and was stopping the key depressing)!
thanks man ,
i left my laptop for 6 months and so of my keyboards got were not working except by force ,,so i just bought keybyowrds , until the the USB ports got spoiled then i went back to laptop keyboards and found this solution ,,,
thanks man my S key wouldnt press very oftern but thanks to your method i got it working again thank you so much
Acer Nitro 5 2020, Top Down method works, but be gentle since the inbuilt switch is made of plastic.
Make a videos on how to put them back because now i can't
oh i have bad news then you broke it
yea
I was just terrified I was going to break it.
Thanks so much i always pushed the sleep button and the airplane mode button while trying to play games and i removed them with a knife with no harm thanks!
I had to pop em from top on my laptop, and then tiny slide down, worked perfectly, thx.
Nice content but don't use sharp screw driver, instead use tool spudger plastic remover.
Pefect, then wait for another video on how to place them back!
I've F-ed up the like lil bounce things have come off and I can't get them to go back on its the A key too :'(
I can't believe this entire vid boils down to 'stick a screwdriver under it'. I just saved y'all three and a half minutes of your lives.
How do you remove the FULL KEY including the butterfly mechanism underneath? Removing the keycap is easy!
under my keys are nasty as heck. now i can clean it. thank you tons
Few of my keys takes input without pressing, I removed keyboard and cleaned but now other keys started creating disturbance
thx alot saved my life.but the tip at the end about not forcing helped alot.i first tryed to force it.then i realiezed that i Needed to go forther to the Center and Clip it out.
did this first time with succed thx alot again.
Thanks, just removed sth from my keyboard and now it's working smooth! :D 12/10

Wow it fixed my keys without doing anything else!!! XD Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuu
thanks, it worked for me. (hp pavilion, x360 convertible, pentium processor model). keys open using the top down method.
I really want to clean my keys but I don't wanna break it. I'm going to try removing the keys from my old laptop and update if it breaks or not.
So how?
Done successfully with vivobook x512d, many thanks.
bought an AZERTY type cover instead of regular type covers for a bargain. 1/5th of a price. Just need to do this and change my layout on win10. Sorted.
Awesome idea! 👍🏻
Hello! I would like to know how to remove the spacebar button on a Galaxy Book Pro safely if its possible!
ty i was able to clean some dust inside the keys but i freaked out when i was putting it back as i couldnt do it but i eventually did it :)) never gonna risk it again lol
Used light force with small flathead: the letter key separated from the little plastic backing. I was finally able to snap those 2 pieces back to click together but now i can't seem to get it to sit in the keyboard flush. I will ask my hubbie to do it. I have the HP laptop Spectre X
What about space bars?
Phillip Coupard same thing but from the bottom of it
how do you know if your key needs bottom or top method?
try prying the key up a bit and you may need a magnifying glass- the side that has two upside-down " n------n " shaped clips molded underneath the key (part of the key) is the one you want to pry up on. It fits the clip underneath it which has a " i_____i " shape. The other side will have more of a sideways J shape that has to slide off sideways after the vertical " n" part is popped off.
i hate those plastic ramp"springs" either one mcroscopic piece of plastic breaks off and you'll have a slanted key forever and it takes the skill of a watchmaker to put those together again or just loose your sanity
Me: watching the video while popping off my keycap
video: stop if there is unusual resistance
keycap: comes out
Me: oh no
also me: pops it back in
phew its detachable
will this fix the problem of my backspace, enter, spacebar and backsplash key not working? I know it's the hardware, and everytime I use one of those keys, I get three letters or symbols. Thank you for your help
