  • Hi, this video shows you how to fix sticking or broken keys on your desktop keyboard and also on laptop keyboards. I show 5 different keyboards so hopefully one of them will be similar to the type of keyboard that you want to fix.
By using a blunt knife or a flat headed screwdriver you will be able to prise of most keys and then clean underneath them. Often dirt and grime can cause sticky keys especially if something has been split onto them. In the video I use Surgical Spirit on a cotton ear bud to clean the keys but this might be known as rubbing alcohol on a Q-Tip or cotton swab in other countries.
    Many thanks Vince

You do a fairly thorough job except, like so many other keyboard tutorials, you neglect to touch upon the stabilizers inside of the elongated keys.

Thank-you for this tutorial. I have Logitech keyboard (silicon keyboard) for 10+ years. This is the first time I popped off the keys and cleaned them and yes, it was as dirty as you can imagine. Btw I used to clean them by using alcohol and a qtip between keys, very hard and slow process to clean it that way.

Thank you for uploading this, I just replaced the keyboard on my wife's Medion Akoya P6624 laptop with a replacement from Germany but didn't notice it was "azerty" instead of GB "qwerty".
Your video enabled me to swap out the relevant keys to make it GB qwerty which the installed Linux Mint was seeing the layout as, now it's functioning perfectly again! 🙂

I literally was too lazy to find the tools required, so I just grabbed a small pole-shaped lego and shoved it under my key. I was careless at the time and didn't worry about damaging my keyboard, and the keys popped off after some tries. It was sort of hard, but it got the job done! They popped back on easily. :D

Thanks for posting this great video! I do have a question though; I recently purchased a logitech MK540 and the space bar key came from the factory a little crooked, looks like it was not placed correctly when they assembled it and when I hit it on the left side it is harder and with more pressure than the right side.
To remove it, does it follow the same principle?
I do see a metal little bar inside so I am worried to try the same method you explained and do something I shouldn't lol. I appreciate your help so much. Regards, Octavio

    Great job on this one!!!
I love your "trying to fix" videos... But my laptop, for no reason, started doing this goofy thing where if you pressed "o", it typed "ok", and the K did the same thing....
By "no reason", I mean, coffee might have got on it.... Hahahah!
So, this is supposed to be waterproof keys, gaming laptop, it's worked amazing....
Anyways, I googled how to fix laptop keyboard, and there was My Mate Vince!!!
So, the keys came off just like your little one there.... And to be honest, I just blasted it out with an air compressor in my garage.... LOTTA stuff came out of there, holy crap..... Heh heh!
I brought it back inside, and got a phone call, and I needed the computer, so I powered it up with the keys still off, and I was kinda thinking about the phone call, and didn't realize it was working perfect again....
    But now it works perfect....
Thanks for this video. Great job.

Mr. Memeist - Not sure what your puzzlement is, but if it’s ASMR, just google it...better yet, do a RUclips search and watch some videos. I like Maria on GENTLE WHISPERING ASMR, esp, the ones she does in Russian. Gives me TINGLES. 😵☺️ There are ASMR vids where they just repeat certain syllables, and that’s for uber-tingles, all concentrated together.

This was helpful to understand the mechanics to remove and replace keys. Mine is a Dell desktop keyboard and the Ctrl key was hard to press down. It was OK pressing directly in the center, but wouldn't budge when pressing on the edge or corner.
I cleaned underneath as you said, but created a new problem. The Q-tip pulled loose one corner of the little rubber springy thing underneath and I couldn't tuck it back in place. Couldn't leave it that way since it was no longer centered under the key. I removed a few screws from the backside and pried apart the top and bottom just enough to tuck that corner back into place.
Cleaning improved it, but not 100%, so I figured it was just worn out. But as the key didn't really have a specific top or bottom (or right or left) I tried popping it back on upside down. It works perfectly, just looks a little funny.
