Ik this was a while ago, but try and look into your fans. I had the same issue, thermal throttling everywhere on everything, games I shoulda stomped not running even relatively well etc etc. Cracked my laptop open to see if maybe dust had blocked the exhaust. Nope! It was some loose rubber bit from manufacturing that got stuck into the fan, only allowing one to turn. Dropped something like 12C instantly when I fixed it

There's kind of a big problem with this. BIOS settings can get reset to defaults for various reasons (dead battery, BIOS upgrade, BIOS can enter failsafe mode if there is hardware issues, user changing the settings, etc...). If the power or screen settings change it would effectively brick the entire system unless you plug the original keyboard back in. Would have been interesting to look at the keyboard connector or any microchip on it and try to just solder switches for the screen/power. Could also have done some others like volume. Also you would have made the system totally portable. At the very least I would hide the keyboard inside the backpanel for emergency maintenance (otherwise it will get lost).
@@NathanielMartin-wf9hfbro he means the power button on the original keyboard. The usb keyboard won't have the original power button for turning on the pc. In case the cmos battery gets dead or you have to update the bios because that will just like reset the bios. So the settings he turned on will revert back to original settings.

The subwoofer in the wooden case is genius for acoustical reasons. Bass gets amplified in wood since the wood resonates and essentially makes the whole of the wood a part of the woofer. That's a trick I used to great effect when I was in the barracks and couldn't fit a big sound system in. Just positioned the woofer in the back middle of the underside of my desk so that the walls of the desk made it seem like I had something more expensive than the small sub woofer I had.
There's another reason for MDF being a superb choice of material - which you may or may not be aware of. MDF is akin to a light grain wood in density. As a result, it has some good resonant qualities that is why it's used to make speaker cabs. It's also cheeper than pine or actual wood... Interesting build.
I think this guy always uses the right materials even if he may not know its the best consciously or scientifically thats why his builds turn out to be so unique and i think in person they would be even more fantastic
Great point, also, the great thing about MDF is it will not be affected by the weather and warp and bend like some woods. One thing to remember though is the glues used for MDF is highly toxic. Make sure you wear a mask when cutting that material.

You, and these utterly perfect videos are the class of the "Electronic DIY" RUclips world and the rest of the actual Digital Cosmos as far as I can tell. Slick, smart and wonderfully narrated. Wow!! Bravo, Sir!! 👌👍
I'm going to need to watch this on my nice display. Edit: And now I'm going to have to build a laptop onto my nice display. But I'm going to need an extra warped laptop PCB to go with my curved monitor.
Look at some of the ultra-portables out there. Some use a set of very small boards connected by ribbon cables, so you could effectively 'bend' the system around the curve. I'm sure there's a broken ultra-portable for cheap out there, somewhere.
I always watch the sponsored part of videos that have them; I'm too frickin lazy to skip ahead lol. Plus when you have commercials like John Lovell's of Warrior Poet Society, they're just as good as the regular content. 👌
If you don't require the decorative aspect you can download the manufacturer's service manual or better yet (in most cases) find a display replacement video then simply remove the damaged notebook display in an hour or two. Then it becomes a serviceable PC you can connect to the same external peripherals as when using the notebook as a desktop replacement workstation.
I have an old Dell Laptop, I purchased the replacement screen for it. Just need to take the time to get it installed. I bought it from Discount Electronics with 4 other ones they sold for $50.00 Had one that worked and had to replace the keyboard the other has no battery.
This channel brings to our attention, all the rubbish we buy and waste our money on, i know though nothing is built to last these days, a throwaway society now!!!
Hmm those laptops can be a problem i had one for about or just under a year, but it seemed to have bought me no joy, it was slow, would not do what i wanted it to do, and in the end gave me grief, it was a pretty good make too, so iv'e gone back to my smartphone and with it have absolutely no problem, my wife said just stick to your smartphone, perhaps she was right in the end!
I did something similar when my Toshiba laptop stopped working a few years ago, but since my screen wasn't totally unusable I just changed the settings of display preference while booting to VGA first, then disconnected the laptop's display and connected the VGA to an old monitor I had, it saved me from buying a new one for at least 3 years haha, this channel is so good!.
@@arkajyotipal6205 well I still have parts missing (pillar screws) but I managed to strip down the laptop and screw it on the back of an old monitor. I'm using it now to do basic tasks (browsing, work from home, etc)
I swear this guy keeps impressing me with his engineering skills even though I'm pretty good at repairing electronic devices or upgrading them but doing my own DIY that's where I seriously lack in that area that takes time that I don't have😢 so I made it easy on myself I bought a 2020 HP pavilion all in one Windows 10 desktop I can also use a external GPU for gaming because it has a built-in USB-C thunderbolt port which is required in order to use a external GPU
It's the best DIY channel I've seen so far. Finally someone who's making things that can really be used rather than some useless stuff which doesn't even look good. As I have access to a few dead laptops, I'm gonna try to make something similar. BTW thanks for idea with changing screen settings in BIOS, I didn't know that they are there.
honestly the battery idea is very good for having a backup power source to save and shut down in case a power outtage happens, avoiding a sudden power loss and resulting in less corrupted files
Hi, I gave this a try. My laptop was fairly new, unfortunately had broken hinges and costs a lot to repair. I am in the process of making a compartment for it.
Sorry I didn't see these replies. I have successfully taken apart all the electronics out of the casing. I ran some tests to see everything works fine just like in the video.

Edit: And now I'm going to have to build a laptop onto my nice display. But I'm going to need an extra warped laptop PCB to go with my curved monitor.
Cavey Möth you could make it it’s separate thing
Look at some of the ultra-portables out there. Some use a set of very small boards connected by ribbon cables, so you could effectively 'bend' the system around the curve. I'm sure there's a broken ultra-portable for cheap out there, somewhere.
This guy is so genuine, I even watch the sponsor part :D
I always watch the sponsored part of videos that have them; I'm too frickin lazy to skip ahead lol.

Me too. 😁
I wanted to skip, but I really liked the music that kicked in that time.
Plus one for the same reason
If you don't require the decorative aspect you can download the manufacturer's service manual or better yet (in most cases) find a display replacement video then simply remove the damaged notebook display in an hour or two. Then it becomes a serviceable PC you can connect to the same external peripherals as when using the notebook as a desktop replacement workstation.
I have an old Dell Laptop, I purchased the replacement screen for it. Just need to take the time to get it installed. I bought it from Discount Electronics with 4 other ones they sold for $50.00 Had one that worked and had to replace the keyboard the other has no battery.

Hi, I gave this a try. My laptop was fairly new, unfortunately had broken hinges and costs a lot to repair. I am in the process of making a compartment for it.
Made any more progress? :o
how's going mate
I'm interested as well.. It's been a month already..
Sorry I didn't see these replies. I have successfully taken apart all the electronics out of the casing. I ran some tests to see everything works fine just like in the video. Instead of building a compartment and also mounting the old laptop screen to essentially make a monitor. I just hooked up the electronics to an old tv with hdmi cable.
I am planning to make a monitor with the laptop electronics mounted behind it soon. Cannot now since university started again haha. Too busy.
The tricky part of this materpiece will be.......since it looks so nice, why don't we put it into Mass Production?
Because you can't mass buy laptops that are broken in the same way. Also just because you can build something doesn't mean you can mass produce it.
Because 3 in 1s already exist?
