  • In this video, Hayes Griffin teaches a cool exercise called “walking arpeggios”. This is very good for strengthening your improvisation muscle and the ability to outline chord changes. We’re specifically applying this technique to the bluegrass tune Whiskey Before Breakfast.
Sheet music, tabs, instructions and mp3s for this tune you’ll find in Mandolin Secrets Academy.

Being a bassist as well, when I picked up the mandolin, I started to play some of the bass lines I played, just to familiarize myself with the fingerboard. This knowledge is invaluable.

A lot of talking. So do you play the arpeggio for the the next chord “G’. So you would play G, B, D? you don’t make that clear what so ever. Stop talking and just play the notes.
