    That was really great. I just recently picked up a mandolin after years of guitar. I love the lick, and you're right, its an easy way to start to understand instrument!

      Yes, I learned this lick and I love it. Thansk Hayes! I just started to add a little variation to it. Works perfect for the first 4 measures of the blues where we repeat the lick.

    This is great and so easy to learn. For some variation It just needs a little push at the end. Instead of playing the whole D riff, play: d, f#, a, c, b, a, c, b, a, g, g#, a (4th string run up).

      @@HayesGriffin thanks you guys! Now I'm learning the riffs in the closed position, same key. Start on the g string 7th fret. Same pattern all around!!
