Summer of 1979 kid of 13 spent my summer in the golden beaches of West Cork Ireland sunny days and one of the classics from that summer chill out sounds of SPYRO GYRA "Morning Dance" years later got to see them @ CORK Jazz Festival 2019 brought back those carefree memories of '79 classic 😎✌️👍.😊

I had the honor of seeing Spyro Gyra perform in concert many years ago in Memphis, TN, along with David Sanborn!! One of the best shows ever!! Great memories I will cherish forever!!
I just happened to come across this today, and I've transported back 45 years ago when I was first introduced to this incredible band. Thank you for taking me back❤
This is the song that did it for me back in 1982. After hearing it, I became a Spyro Gyra fan, and a jazz fan for life. Since that year, 1982, when I started college, jazz is all I listen to and I enjoy every second of it. My all time jazz songs are On the Stairs by Pat Martino and I'm Late, I'm Late by Stan Getz. I've seen Spyro Gyra live three times and loved it.
Fun Fact: The album Morning Dance went gold the same year it was released. Eight years later, it was certified platinum. This LP has some legs! Over forty years after it was released, people are still enraptured by its sound.
I helped it go gold! I bought this album as soon as I heard it back in '79 ( thank you, WRVR, in NYC back in the day!) I memorized every solo and riff, and can still play the sax solo...loved this groove from the get go!
Sweetness Overload, pure happy feel good vibes, gets your day jump started, and especially on a Monday morning..It's one of my top fave Spyrogyra 🎵 ❤❤❤ Big thanks for all the lovely feel good happy songs you have given us throughout the years 💐 💐 💐 👍 👍
Yeah, exactly. life was great back then before the globalists sold our Country out by outsourcing our Mfg base. It's a hollow remnant of what it once was.
This song converted me to Jazz at age 12 in 1979 and I've never looked back since. You can listen to every instrument in isolation and enjoy it. Today, all the instruments play the same beat and you get bored after listening to it once. You can never get bored listening to this 20X a day. Just brilliant.
Morning dance was part of my soundtrack when I escaped West Texas and tapped into the hip scenes in Santa Fe, Albuquerque and then wonderful Tucson with a busty, green-eyed longhaired beauty who became my wife.
I remember hearing this when my mom would be up early cleaning and cooking breakfast, I would lay in bed and wiggle my feet to the music and Bob my head, and thinking time to get up.... she's going to play earth, wind, & fire next.!!
Darron Lundy your lovely comment made me laugh n cry at the same time, especially when you said your mum will play earth wind & fire next, what happy memories you must have, at 56 now this was back in my era.
Yes, same sort of memories...I was 22 & living in London UK when this came out in 1979...went out straight out and got the LP in the summer of 1979. My parents also LOVED this tune. Great memories of not having a care in the world.
brilliant darron i have a similar memories but mine was waking up to go to work at 6 am the sun was shinning through my bedroom window and this came on the radio just as my mother who knew i had to get up early for work came in with a nice cup of tea ,perfect a great tune !
"Morning Dance" has always been my favorite Spyro Gyra song...I loved cruising on Lake Tahoe on a sailboat and listening to this and "It doesn't matter"! So smooth & relaxing...it doesn't get any better!
My grandfather used to listen to this I was told and he was a big jazz fan so am I i never got a chance to meet him but one day I will have the chance to sit up in heaven with him in a jazz club and just talk all night long!!!
Ha, I'm here because I got a bunch of old records from my dad a few years back,he found them in a storage unit. I don't have a record player so I'm staring at this vinyl on the wall in my garage area where I spend most of my time thinking"I can't remember if I ever played that one" back when I had a way to play the vinyl. Nothing like the sound of a vinyl you just can't replicate it
From 1988 to 1994, I use to host the Sunday Morning Show on WCGO, 1600 AM, In South Chicago Heights, Illinois, and this was my show theme. Such a great song and such great memories.

MORE ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL JAZZ MUSIC! MAY IT NEVER END! I used to have all these great jazz and R&B albums mixed in with some great rock and roll and folk. Nothing better!!! THERE'S ALWAYS A PLACE FOR THIS TYPE OF MUSIC IN OUR CULTURE!
"Morning Dance" by Spyro Gyra was the first used CD I bought at an indie music store called Hungry Ear in the 1980's. The bright and lively music on this CD set me on a path to new and used music CDs at indie music stores and Syro Gyra fandom.;)
The sound of Jay Beckenstein blowing that alto sax is mind blowing on this track, along with Rubins Bassini on congas & percussion, David Samuels on steel drum, an instrument you rarely hear in modern musc, to give it that Carribean flavour, what a brew, there you have it, one of the biggest sellers of 1979 from the Morning Dance album & it wasnt a Disco track either
J Eshun Your comment made me listen to it to the end and you are 100% correct. They played with such ease, never over playing. Jay grew up in my area, but I never knew him before he made it. Whenever I did go see them back in the day, family and friends he gathered with, so I did not interrupt. But he seemed like a nice guy.

The song that really opened my ears to Jazz. Oh the memories this one brings back, Thanks for posting this Gem! This song would relax me and put me in a festive mood back in the 80's better than almost anything at the time and that's saying a lot for one of the best times in the world for music, the 70's and 80's!
When I was 17, my father, brother and a friend of his all took a road trip to Montana for skiing. My dad had his car cleaned out before we left and forgot to put back into the car his cassette collection. The only one he had was this album. I think we listened to it for 600 of 1,000 miles (each way). It made for a very long week. But I hear this song now and it makes my heart warm.
Totally forgot this was the hit that first brought the group's unforgettable name to my attention, but like someone commented below, I instantly remembered every twist and turn in it. Must have been on the radio constantly in its prime. Fun to hear it again, love the steel drum in there, but wow, did this hit fall off all the radio playlists since the early 1980s!
I was 29 when this tune was released. Boy the good old school days sure wish we all had them back. House parties full of fun and love for All people. 69 now but still listening. Where does the time go?
This song brings back memories of the early 80's during news sports highlights when the final scores would scroll up the television screen while Morning Dance was playing.

Cant help but have a smile on your face when this songs plays no matter the age .
You're a psychopath if you can't enjoy this music
Going to my province by hiking, rivers flow, feeling free, listening to my headphone, smelling grass smoke ...love it...
Dancing to it on a Sunday morning ! Great !
Classic song, always makes me think of summertime no matter when during the year I hear it playing.
This song always puts me in a good mood. I love this song. :)
I was 29 when this tune was released. Boy the good old school days sure wish we all had them back. House parties full of fun and love for All people. 69 now but still listening. Where does the time go?
Still awesome...
This song brings back memories of the early 80's during news sports highlights when the final scores would scroll up the television screen while Morning Dance was playing.
I was lucky enough to see Spiro Gyra and I thin George Benson at the Universal Amphitheater around 1981. Unbelievable show.

Yes it was...
Grew up with these guys in Buffalo ny. They started at a jazz club called The Tralfadore Cafe
@@josephmasci1169 That would be The Tralfamadore Café, named after the planet Billy Pilgrim is taken to in Kurt Vonnegut's classic _Slaughterhouse-Five_ novel.
I CAN STILL REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME I HEARD YOUR MUSIC... Awesome
Freshman year in the UAB BLAZER BAND... team would be warming up as we played this LIVE no crap no stadium anthems just solid live music. Miss those days.

@@robjones8733 After the departure of the steel & iron industry...that became true...UAB IS BIRMINGHAM!
