Master of Sparks is about how for kicks they used to get into a cage in the back of a pickup truck and then have someone push the cage off when the truck was flying down the road at a high speed
After playing nothing but acoustic for forty years I decide to get an electric. Found a cheap strat on Craigslist. $175. Didn’t know or care much what it was beyond being electric. It’s a one pickup one knob Made in Japan Contemporary Strat. “85-‘86. Since then have watched players talk about the one pickup thing. Phil X and others. Gotta say, it’s Sweet. I can’t handle too many knobs and switches anyway. Tone is fantastic. Put a Buzztone pickup in it after watching Sped Spedding on RUclips talking about them. Great lesson! Thanks🤙🤙
Billy F Gibbons is the master. Robert thank you. A couple of weeks ago I enrolled in your online classes. They are amazing. I have gotten so much out of them for such a small price.
Billy Gibbons is the groove/hook master! It’s crazy when you think about how many fantastic songs ZZ Top have put out over the years! Thanks for breaking this one down man!✌🏻
I saw ZZ Top on 8.6.22, just a few days ago, in Atlanta, GA. It was Electric! Literally! Lightning filled the sky, and it got so bad that Kenny Wayne Shepard had to cut his act short. Eventually ZZ Top came on, but not before an hour intermission waiting for the storm to pass. It never passed, but they played anyway! Southerners don't fear a little lightning!
I’m late to the party, but I just saw ZZ Top tonight. They played “I gots to get payed.” They also played a song which is similar, “My Head’s In Mississippi.” That song really emphasizes the syncopation, and is quintessential Billy Gibbons getting jiggy on the hybrid picking. The dude is a legend! And it was a killer show! Dudes in their 70s rocking it out with authority! My only disappointment was they didn’t play “Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers.” But they were in top form! Elwood crushed on bass. Dusty would be proud! Still buzzing on the afterglow! Lol.😎
Lonnie Mack, Stevie Ray’s mentor/inspiration called the high E the Bell. Ringing the Bell along with the riff. I’ve seen Billy playing this way on Waitin on the Bus. With Sammy Hagar actually. On the RUclips.
Another great video. The stuff you do is so varied. From Eddie Van Halen to Billy Gibbons in a week. Always learn something I can use. Have you thought about talking about how you get the tones you use. Doesn’t matter if it’s amps and pedals or modelling, the principles are the same. I’d not have thought to use fuzz and a tele. I’m guessing it’s quite clean and a little fuzz.
"Sharp Dressed Man" I saw ZZ Top 3 nights in a row a good while back. The opening act was J oan Jett and the 2nd band was Loverboy. What a lineup to get through to get the tha Top....All 3 bands were good though, don't get me wrong..
@@kylecravens6501 I'd of loved to see them with Lynyrd Skynyrd and I agree that could of been a co headlining event, and Kansas had to of been great too...
Stapleton uses a similar technique on "Devil always made me think twice" which is one of his more bluesy songs rather than country. Check it out if you haven't heard it, might make for a good video.
I love your lesson man I tell you what he is the man I grew up all my life listening to him I saw him and open up for the Allman Brothers I tell you how old I am he just got out of Vietnam can you show me the major minor pentatonic please or do you have a course
I really love Billy’s stuff. Not pretentious, easier than it looks and sounds and always lots of fun. Kinda what music is supposed to be. Cool to see you totally get the attitude! 👍
Check out my New FREE guitar course The Rock Guitar Chop Builder here - robertbakerguitar.com/p/rgcb
Thank you for what you do. Your course is cool because of the back tracks. Love it. I get to jam along with you. So cool!
"Jesus just left Chicago" what a cool song. Gets me everytime I hear it. In fact all of the Tres Hombres" album is legendary.
What’s Billy talking about in master of sparks ?⚡️🤷🏼♂️
Welded in to a shape by Slim 😁
Master of Sparks is about how for kicks they used to get into a cage in the back of a pickup truck and then have someone push the cage off when the truck was flying down the road at a high speed
@@lilmoe4364 well damn! That'll most definitely cause some sparks! Lol
They have a album before Tres Hombres it's called, (The First Album) ZZ top rules
If you look closely this guy actually has the Jesus vibe! Ironic
Just saw him last weekend. Amazing. No sweep arpeggios, no tapping, no ah. Just old school guitar playing. Fn awesome.
Amen
👍🔥
Billy does have some tapping up his sleeve. Every now and then when he hits a bend around 5-9 he’ll tap the 12 mid bend.
@@thebeastmaster3453 That is where Eddie Van Halen claimed to have copped it, yeah he always used it for a kind of hiccup trill.Billy man. So earthy.
Billy Gibbon’s use of pinch harmonics always amazed me. A video analyzing his technique would be great.
Choke up to the point of the pick and you want the pick to hit the flesh of your thumb almost at the same time.
A lot of distortion helps
@@lilmoe4364 and he uses a Mexican coin too
That second solo in "La Grange" - harmonic city! So awesome
Hot damn, that’s spicy. Wasn’t familiar with this one. My Tele is eyeballing me now.
nice stuff. Still have to go with Beer Drinkers, Hell Raisers as a favorite.
I'll counter with... Master of Sparks 😀
I always loved his open string playin an the addition of fretted notes. It's a throwback to the old blues players who did peddling often.
PEDALING

Gibbons is the master of laid-back grooves. His live playing is incredibly economical but gut- bucket heavy on groove.
Well said. I thought the same thing after seeing ZZ for the first time in ‘22.
I love that telecaster with only the bridge pickup!
What's your favorite ZZ Top tune?
Also The link for the Tabs is now fixed - ruclips.net/video/bUqENfhdGbc/видео.html
My Heads in Mississippi... can't help it, love pick harmonics!
Just Got Paid. Easily. Early stuff before their 80's pop phase.
Just Got Paid and Brown Sugar

I’ve loved this riff since I first heard it and always wondered why nobody every mentioned it 👌 it’s my go to fuzz pedal demo riff 😂
Sounds sooooo sick, I remember this lick giving me chills when I saw them live. Thank you so much for posting I can’t wait to learn it!
That's the best finish to any of your video's, so far!! Bet you cannot beat it!
I need that fuzz! What is it? Sounds heavenly!

Great track off of an under appreciated album. Cool lick for sure. Just saw Top this past Sunday night and Gibbons was so good. 😃👍🏻🎼
Nice one ! ..John Lee Hooker knew about this technique I'd say :)
Reminds me of the Norm Greenbaum sound, a little "Spirit in the Sky". Thanks for posting. Billy is smooth like butta!
Deguello is one my favourite albums. Gibbons' playing on it is sublime.
And sadly, it's the only one of theirs not streaming.

What Fuzz are you using?
I read Jimi Hendrix was a fan of Billy Gibbons? His tone is mad!
Tube Snake Boogie is one of the most killer guitar riffs ever. It seems like So many notes coming out all at once.
Good one RB!
That was REAL good!!
Thanks Robert!!
She's Got Legs was the first song I heard from them, tends to be my favorite from them because of the memories and it's video.
