- In this classic scene from I Love Lucy, Lucy finds out she pregnant and tries to tell Ricky but he wouldn't let her because he was busy finally after many attempts she goes to the night club where he works and a magical moment takes place.
No matter how many times I see this, I cry. And to think director wanted to reshoot this because he didn’t want the emotions. Thank goodness they listened to the audience.
Its what made it real you can tell how in love they really are on screen and real life too🥰

I heard that Desi really did get emotional at this part of the episode and almost forgot to start singing the song. And that Lucy’s tears were real.
They were cause Lucille was actually pregnant when they made the episode.
Lucy was fighting back tears because she was pregnant in real life.

She was about 6 months along here, but they were able to recreate it so well because it was emotional for them, they didn't really have to act.

I remember watching reruns of this as a kid and having no idea how historic it was that this show wrote in a pregnancy storyline. And to this day, so much of it still holds up. Ricky’s reaction here just melts my heart.

Of course, this makes me think of the episode where she does have the baby. They rehearse the moment calmly calling the doctor and leaving for the hospital, then chaos erupts when the actual moment arrives! Still one of the best shows on TV. ❤️

I love when they actually get to the hospital and rather than the usual mother being pushed in the wheelchair with the father carrying her suitcase, overwhelmed Ricky’s the one in the wheelchair and laboring Lucy is trudging behind carrying her own suitcase 😂
No matter how things turned out between Ricky and Lucy. At that moment the love was strong an genuine♡

This scene always makes my eyes water and i am a guy. Best tv show scene i saw as a kid and adult. As a kid my sis and i were mesmerized and we hugged our mom. As an adult it was my sisters turn twice. Soon it will be mine.
I admire them so much. I loved them as a couple for Their bravery, the way they broke barriers and how they both succeeded as a couple.

So sad Desi cheated on Lucy so many times and they broke up eventually. Lucy couldn't take his infidelity anymore. However they loved each other until the end of their lifes. Desis last words to lucy 2 days before his death where "I love you too, honey good luck with your show" so sad that her show was cancelled after 1 season and on top of that she suffered Desis death. They were a great couple. May they rest in peace and are finally together and happy. They will always be the best couple in comedy history.
I remember seeing those home movies when they were older and you can tell they still very much love each other. To me, Desi was a victim of his parents, particularly his mother. Example: If Lucy got a Piat then his mother would force her son to get her a Lamborghini. He was raised in their toxic ways but you can tell in the end he really did love her so much.
Broke my heart when I heard his last words to her. So many divorced parents should take note because too often today do we see the ugly alternative. Even though they weren't together as husband and wife in the end, I truly believe they are soulmates and were lucky to have one another.

my wife played this song for me when we wound out that she was pregnant and I was so excited. She introduced me to this show and have grown to love it so much, they where pioneers of show business. The amazing use of camerawork prior to everyone else and just the comedy genius.

In fact, it was very difficult for them to have children, Lucy had several abortions and this pregnancy was that of her second child just when the TV series had its greatest success and their emotion was completely real.

I still get a lump in my throat watching this scene, even though I've seen it a thousand times. I never get tired of this show.

I love how sincere they were in this scene. It was so sweet, funny, but very sweet.
It was a genuine surprise to Desi. What you see here is real. He never knew she was pregnant before this moment, which is why he stumbled with his words and why Lucille wiped away tears.
@@Shadywolf09 That isn't true lol. He knew. This is a scripted sitcom, this wasn't an actual music set at a venue. Can you imagine Desi filming his sitcom, that he and his wife have complete creative control over, and suddenly someone hands him a note saying that and he proceeds to ask the extras sitting there, when his wife is obviously right there in front of him? That makes no sense. He would be like "what the hell? why are we going off script like this? How does the band know this song? How do I know the words to this song?" Lucy, the real Lucy, not her character, was about six months pregnant here. He knew she was pregnant, she wasn't telling him for the first time. Come on, use your brain.

Both Lucille and Desi were great performers, no question about that! But I see the opportunities that Desi had as an immigrant to come to America and reach his potential with hard work and sacrifice. God Bless America!

I used to watch this show as a kid in the late 90's on Nick at Nite, I was so happy for them. One of the funniest tv couples become the sweetest in one episode.
Seen this episode probably 500 times in my life (thanks to syndication), never fails to tear me up

When I was a little boy (estimate around 1964) when I was only six years old, my dear and sweet Sister (may she Rest in Peace) started me watching I Love Lucy reruns and later The Lucy Show. I know people want to mention Desi's infidelity and other items. I hope we can remember the happy times like this, in our own lives and "Pay it Forward" from now on!

Just saw this in 2019 in color as part of it’s Christmas Special. I can’t lie. I loved it so much I cried with an adored smile on my face. I’m crying right now, it’s so sweet. 😭

Growing up, I watched reruns of I Love Lucy all the time on Nick at Nite. I was maybe 9 or 10 when I first saw this episode, and it hit me right in the feels! ^__^

My favourite scene from any show ever, of all time. I've watched it so many times.
That is my favorite part of the entire series run. More than Superman. More than Santa Claus. More than the chocolates and the awful tasting elixir and the wine dance. The look on his face is priceless. It still makes me cry tears of joy.
One of my favorite moments of the whole series. Lucy looks so incredibly beautiful. Her eyes sparkle even in b&w. His reaction is priceless. You can really feel the true emotions.

It's kinda amazing to me how, in an era where acting was typically unnatural and over-the-top, this scene had some of the most natural emotions and reactions I've ever seen in black-and-white. I know it was reflecting their real life, but Dezi and Lucy seriously put their all into this beautiful scene.

My wife just sent me this clip to let me know she's pregnant. Started tearing up with happiness. Can't wait
I remember this episode differently. Ricky shouts out much louder with shock/fear/love that hes going to be a father, and the band members respond with verbal praises acknowledging their shock and surprise as weell.
In reality, during this scene Desi Arnaz became emotional and kind of lost his cue, until the band memebers shouted "sing the baby song". He realized where he was and closed the scene by singing. They were actors, but this mirrored what was happening in their real lives and no other television show in history can duplicate this.
A genuine tender moment between Desi and Lucy.
Absolutely magical 💕💜

So cool to see thees clips of a show my mom introduced me to when I was young - I've always loved Lucy. When you watch so many of the sitomcs of the 90s through today, you will see where so many of their ideas came from!

They were brilliant. Networks resisted this plot line but it was epic ratings.

i remember the first time i saw this episode, i was maybe 7 years old and even then could tell how sweet it was, and every time i see it i can tell just how much they really did love each other, even for all the problems they were to have later, they DID love each other very deeply.
Such a beautiful moment on a wonderful TV show.

The top classic moment in television history. One theory I heard was that this was real. Ricky did not know she was actually pregnant until this moment that was captured live.
Unfortunately, that's not so. They had already had one child (their daughter) and Lucy was about five months pregnant here with their second (their son, and hence the big maternity dress) so obviously he knew, but it's still a sweet moment

No he wasn't. Lucy was actually pregnant when this episode air. Also lucy gave birth a night before they film the lucy goes to the hospital episode.
No Lucie Arnaz was about 9mos old ; Lucy was 5 mos pregnant with Desi jr. (the children are 1 1/2 yrs apart.)
So touching. Lucy cries because not only was she pregnant but because their marriage was on the rocks. Desi screwed up the words too. He was probably very nervous in this number. High-emotion, lovely scene.

Censorship was ridiculous back then, they couldn't say the word Pregnant on TV then so they made just about every other metaphor for it. Of course it's amazing that the two did manage to make a baby because the Censors wouldn't let even a married couple be seen sleeping in the same bad, all their bedroom scenes showed Lucy and Ricky sleeping in twin beds with a bedtable between them
Before the filming of this episode, that Lucy was already pregnant with her son. This marks the condition and was in the newspapers, that Lucille was pregnant. And again in the newspapers that around months later received her second borne into the world.
