awesome! Super parents make super kids. i'm working on this project with my 5 year old now. my plan (and policy with the older ones) is i will pay for parts and physically help anyway i can. whether they want to pay for labor or do it themselves is up to them. this kind of job is a perfect DIY project b/c even the most inexperienced home-mechanic can knock this out in a weekend or less and the labor cost to parts ratio is astronomical if you pay somebody to do it

I am 66 years old, female and changed out my inside driver front handle with no problems. Someone wanted to charge me 100.00 to do it. I am now fixing to change out my rear passenger outside handle. Wish me luck. All was accomplished from these videos. Thank you for helping people save money.

Just today I followed this tutorial to repair my broken door. The interior plastic on one side of the handle had snapped and it wasn't pulling the latch mechanism any more. I superglued the parts together and added some sheet metal reinforcement and it works like new. Thanks!

Great, I watched this and just finished my aunts 98 accord in just under 20 minutes. Only thing is make sure that you have a long enough extension and you may need 1 person to help apply pressure when putting the door handle on. Great guide, thanks man !!!!
Video was spot on. Be careful not to drop one of the screws that holds the handle on down inside the door panel! I didn't but that doesn't look like fun to retrieve. Also, managed to do the repair wo removing the lock mechanism. Thanks, good stuff!

Great video. Only additional tip I would add is that on putting the handle back in, I would recommend two people. One to work from the front to ensure the black plastic tab slides into place correctly and another to start the screw. Video was very helpful and this worked great.

Great Video. However I Think that it needs to be stressed that he moved the door lock down, before he put the handle place. The door lock needs to be down before the handle is put n place. I moved the door lock up to remove the 10mm bolt for the door handle. i tightened the two 10 m bolts while the handle while the door lock was up. This caused the door handle to be stuck in the open position. I had to remove the 10mm bolts from the door handle again move the lock down, and then re fasten the door handle. Also I recommend that you use putty to keep the 10 mm bolts from falling out of the socket wrench. The bolts kept falling out of the socket wrench every time i tried to get the bolt started in the hole. The putty keeps the bolts from falling out of the socket wrench.
thank you! Honda dealership would have charged me $110 just to see why the door wouldn't open, but i did it myself for only the price of the part!

@TibebIntlM If the outside door handle is broke, you would need to remove the door panel and pop the latch from inside the door, so that it will open and you can make your repair.
If the latch on the side of the door is stuck closed and will not allow the door to close, you should be able to use a flat head screw driver and a hammer and gently tap the clasp that is stuck down back up into place. A little white lithium grease will help to keep it from sticking. This is available at your local parts store.

Great video. I just disassembled by back door to see what the issue was but you had a few tips that would have made the process easier. Reassembly will use your tips. Question, where should I look to find a matched paint outside door handle? My 1998 Accord is the sand/silver color.

However, they don't mention that there is a bar in the way of the inside 10mm bolt on the door handle.
I had to remove 2 additional 10mm bolts to push the bar out of the way.

@@1AAuto we get that the car is the same, but the driver door handle is way different and there is only one video on youtube on how to fix it and it is terribly filmed.

@TibebIntlM that's messed up...the only thing i can think of, is if you try an get the door panel off from the inside while the door is closed then use a screwdriver to open the door by prying it by the outside door handle from inside the door panel.

This video is very helpful. I do have a question, how can I get my door panel off of a door that has the child safety lock engaged and the outside handle is broken?

I'm doing this on a '01 accord. The three screws on the jamb. The bottom one is seized on both sides must have been lock tighted in. I have used liquid wrench and impact hammer to get it out. The only thing I see that I did differently is I tried to take out the bottom one last. You did it first. Don't know if that has an impact on ease of removal. Anyway any ideas on how to getting screw out. Yes the head is thoroughly stripped thought about a screw extractor but don't think that would work because the screw is still seized

I’m confused on buying a new outside door handle or if it’s off tracked any help is greatly appreciate, yes the inside door handle works just fine it’s the outside that’s not lached to anything or catching . All my doors locked correctly but that back door handle I have to manual press it down . It only be unlocked from the inside only but if u pulled the outside door it want open and feel like it’s not catching nothing .What does that mean??

do you know where i can buy an outside door handle for honda accord 99. its a right hand drive car. i bought one from ebay but that one does not fit. its smaller than the original one
What if the screws don't come out @3:30
i got 2 of them, but one does not come out, it stripped 2 screwdriver bits for my ratchet and broke the bit on my drill.
is there an alternative?
is this process similar to the front door handle? minus the lock, which i assume is similar through most cars

how would i be able to replace the rear left outside door handle, the issue im having trouble with is the door wont open from the outside and the child lock is engaged, how would i be able to open the door without damaging the car, any advice would be appriciated

Had one of the two little arms on the handle snap in two. Used super glue to fix and then broke it again trying to seat it in. Lol

open the inside door handle cover. in there you will see a metal rod. pull this and the door will pop open

Hey i have a problem i need advice frm some one that knows, the outside handle stopped opening the car, so i removed the door panel and the handle isnt connected to the lock, i removed the gaurd and the rods but a bar inside prevents me frm pulled the lock out, and now the latch that holds the door closed is stuck in the down position, how can i get that latch to pivot back up ??
I have a problem like that, my rear left door is jammed and doesnt want to open I pull the handle frm outside and inside and it feels like its not grabbing on to open the door, is there any way I cud fix that??

What if you cant open it from the inside because thr child lock is on. Then what do you do?

You should still be able to get the panel off with the door closed. At the very least you can pull it back enough to get you hand behind the panel and pull on the cable that pulls on the latch. Thank you for watching.
