You are in luck. The ancient city of Mach was a horrific culture. In fact, much of the city’s culture revolved around the summoning and binding of voidsent as both servants and a power source. They also released a horrifying magical disease on their rival city of Nym that transformed the population into little green lizard people.
Finally, Ul’dah in the past created and released an alchemical bio weapon on their sister city that turned the populace into undead. So yes, horrifying war crimes committed by tiny baby-faced potato people.

So the Sea Wolfs come from a region of the nothern sea called Aerslant. They fled because the land is ruled by a group discribed as tyrant kings. Its also kinda funny that the scholarly state of sharlayan (which has a large sea wolf population) was founded by a roegadyn who saved people from the calamity of water by building noahs ark.
As for rp concept for a sea wolf, that is not tied to limsan history, heres something my friend came up with: a roegadyn dragoon, beware really minor trivia spoilers for HW:
Alphinaud and Alisae where born in a sharlayan colony on aldenard, that is in close proximity to abalathia and ishgard. the scholars of sharlayan decided to evacuate their settlement, when the garlean empire restarted their eorzean conquest.
The roegadyn was a young student, who at the time was tending to a small contigent of ishguardian knights, that were attacked repeatedly by dragons. he befriended a dragoon in training and decided to aid them for a time.
when midgarsomr battled the agrius, he called swarms of dragonkind into frenzy. That frenzied swarm wiped out the small contigent, on its way to silver tear lake and so the roegadyn collected the job crystal of the deceased dragoon as a keepsake and tried to return to his home settlement.
however due to the above describe mass exodus in his absence, he was left alone. So he decided to wander the lands in his scholarly persuits. While his racial physique benefitted him physically, he was not a martial fighter by any means. so when he was cornered by a flying creature, he thought he was going to die but in that moment the job crystal resonated with him and he leaped high into the air with a dragoon jump. having no weapon and feeling the adrenalin of being mid air, something primal awoke in him . he body pressed his winged foe with a dragoon dive that some people might describe as really exaggerated lucha libre of a mandeville man ...or a metoer strike. since then he registered himself at the adventures guild in grindania. he wants to learn the way of the lance and proof himself as a capable dragon slayer in order to return the crystal to the owners family of minor nobles....and also have practical and cultural dragoon experiences so he could write a dissertation about it.

At level 60 you can do the "Legacy of Mhach" side story that contains 3 alliance raids "Void Ark", "the Weeping city of Mhach" and "Dun Scaith" that delve into the Mhachian culture and history, mostly the later parts of it.
The Black mage story line also goes into the origins of black magic and the Mhachian sorceress who weaved the first spells of black magic.
The 5th Astral Age ended in a global flood known as the 6th Umbral Calamity(or calamity of water) and this was caused by centuries of war between Mhach(mostly Lalafell with black magic and void magic) and Ancient Amdapor(mostly Elezen with white magic and golemancy). This war is called the War of the Magi.

I don't really vibe with Au Ra being dragon people. First, only one dragon and their eggs touched down on the Star and that's Midgardsomr. The Dawn Father and Dusk Mother might be more inversions Hydaelin and Zodiark.
Second, I blame Midgardsomr for this whole shape-shifting thing. It's worth mentioning that his body is not moving an inch from where he sits. His soul is another story entirely. We have Minigardsomr being a tiny grumpy and adorable gramps, Middigardsomr giving us a ride whenever we need or want, giant disembodied head and neck putting us in place, and potentially Dragoon LB3 wrecking shit. But there is a Custom Delivery involving a red dragonet where we do see her adaptation to crafting because she does experience it and waants to do it more and more easily. So maybe through a long chain of events it might have been possible to have more and more humanoid dragons through this adaptation.
Third, dragons in FFXIV reproduce asexually. It's pretty much that a dragon gathers enough aether, since that's the most basic building block and energy of almost everything in the game, and then goes to a safe area and lays a clutch of eggs. If I remember correctly. And maybe some dragons did get frisky with a mortal woman. Hraesvelgr was in love with Saint Shiva after all. Who is to say that another yet unknown great wyrm felt the some somewhere else and went one step further?
Plus, Midgardsomr isn't the only alien being on Hydaelin. So maybe another suspiciously dragon-adjacent one or ones came and we just don't know.
So it really is just which flavour the player prefers.

Plainsfolk and Dunesfolk do actually have some pretty noticeable physical differences that go just beyond appearances, but on that note, perhaps the most obvious difference is the eyes. Dunesfolk Lalafell have a film covering their eyes that is said to protect them against sandstorms and gives their eyes a solid pupiless look, which ties into their nomadic origins and need to travel and adjust to harsh climates. Plainsfolk have very noticeable "nocturnal" eyes with large pupils that likely come from the need to see in dark burrows and operate outside of the ranges of their many predators, as you've touched on with their moss hair too.
As someone who started as disliking the Lalafell, I've come to grow to really like them and they've quickly become one of my favorites. It mostly just meant taking the time to treat them with some level of respect, which is what the game asks of you, even if it isn't afraid to get silly at times. In a world where aether is EVERYTHING, they are one of the best examples of what sort of effect that has on the politics and societies surrounding it. The Garleans (pureblooded at least) are BIG, imposing, and entirely unable to tap into that magic, and thus has have been had to turn to other means to expand and grow whereas lalafell are small, unassuming, and yet not only produce powerful magic and mages, but ALSO are capable of meeting blows in physical combat with larger races because they can command aether. Thus, they have been part of many already great empires in the history of the world. They are basically evolved to specialize in wielding aether at the expense of a physical baseline other races might enjoy or excel at.
And lastly, Lalafell names are just good fun, with them being built around rhyming patterns, and I could create Lalafell characters just for the opportunity to play around more with that concept.
Overall, enjoyed a lot of your thoughts here and look forward to hearing more in the future too!

Most of the time, if you kill one, they return to the Void or lose the vessel they possess. Though on the other hand, those you do slay, especially the meaner ones, do give you some notoriety.

Hey hey again Grim. While I can't wait for you to return to your other projects as well, I'm ecstatic to see you continue to dive into this world. Some thoughts here
So, my first note is part nitpick, part cultural observation. You mentioned the Hellsguard's view of themselves as keepers of the gates of hell bringing wwith it an innate view of themselves as demon slayers. I'm unsure whether this is directly supported at any point in the game or lore supplements, and I've always considered their "guards of hell" thing to be more of a passive cultural and religious point, emphasizing strength and a culture of hardship and spiritualism, but I love the idea of their martial training being suffused with this idea of demon-killing. I do however want to note that when you say that they would then be technically "voidsent killers" rather than "demon killers" i think you're making a bit of a conflation of terms. Again I might be wrong here, but over the time I've played I've gotten the distinct impression that voidsent, while demonic in appearance and aspect by our standards and clearly the game's equivalent of the traditional concept, are not actually one and the same with "demons" in-universe. Much like the word "monster" i believe the word "demon" is more of... a vibe, rather than a concrete definition. I think any rare animal, spooky Ashkin or dangerous Elemental could come to be called a "demon" same as any voidsent, as it is more of cultural thing, or a matter of personal perception, and it is important to not automatically conflate the two. It's kinda like how every square is a rectangle but not every rectangle is a square, or how every poet is a madman but not every madman is a poet. Which of course means one can take that "demon-killer culture" and apply it to any kind of being they want in their personal backstory!
Minor correction on the naming schemes for Miqo'te - the addition of the tribe's "letter" is done for all names in the Seekers of the Sun, not the Keepers of the Moon. Additionally, the tribal prefix functions much like japanese honorifics in the sense that to use a Seeker's name without the prefix is only done as a sign of great familiarity and closeness, and a considerable social faux-pas if done improperly. For example, Y'Shtola Rhul of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn is referred to as only Shtola in the game only by her blood sister Y'Mhitra and her personal mentor and teacher Master Matoya who has known her since she was a child - not even the other Scions, people who have risked their lives for her multiple times over decades of work and who she has risked her life for in kind, have the priviledge of referring to her without the Y of the Jaguar tribe at start. Also, fun bit of trivia: the Miqo'te originally had their own alphabet and language, and their tribes' names were exceptionally difficult to pronounce by non-Miqo'te and difficult to spell in other languages, but when they migrated to Eorzea during the ancient Ice Age they found that the common Eorzean alphabet had exactly as many letters as they had tribes and corresponding totem animals, so they adopted the common alphabet and the tribal prefixes in Eorzean Common because they saw this as a sign of divine providence, that their new homeland was so perfect for them.
Keeper of the Moon names actually forgo these tribal prefixes, as their matriarchal family structures separate them from the 26 tribes entirely. Their naming scheme is a little more complex. First off, female Keeper forenames are shorter and more striking, akin to male forenames for Seekers, which highlights that matriarchal structure. Surnames are passed down from parent to child just as in most real world cultures (with the difference here being that in the real world it's usually the father's surname that is passed, where as the Seekers pass the mother's), with some surnames and their associated female lineage being incredibly widespread and supposedly reaching all the way back to the First Age, but males actually take their mothers' forename for their own, with a suffix representing the order of their birth. So a female Miqo'te might be called Gota Jinjahl, her daughter may be called Cemi Jinjahl, and her sons would be Gota'a Jinjahl, Gota'to Jinjahl, etc. The order of suffixes goes: 'a, 'to, 'li, 'sae, 'ra, 'ir, 'wo, 'ya, 'zi, 'tan. Anything beyond the tenth son also takes 'tan, but it's extremely uncommon for a mother to have need of anything beyond 'li. Also, male Keepers are traditionally characterized as solitary wanderers, and most are essentially deadbeat dads - though this isn't necessarily seen as a bad thing in their culture.
    (continued in replies)

On your points about why the Au Ra may in fact be related to dragons:
      1. Disagree on the validity of this. Heavensward content, including Au Ra and Ishgard, was originally intended to be part of the re-release of Final Fantasy 14 as A Realm Reborn, and when it became clear that would not be possible it was developped into a full expansion. Even without that fact, this is circumstantial evidence at best - you could easily argue that the reason they came out with the scaley race together with the dragon expansion is because there isn't a lizard expansion to put them in instead. The Hrothgar and Viera were released with Shadowbringers, male Viera with Endwalker, and female Hrothgar will come with Dawntrail, but they have absolutely nothing to do with those expansions aside form new characters belonging to those races to showcase them, it's just a matter of workload allocation and development cycles.
      2. Sorry but this one is just incorrect to my knowledge. The various dragon-like beings with different features which i presume you're referring to aren't hybrids, they're just dragons - they can change their form according to their personality as they mature and come into their own and don't necessarily have to be scaley - look at the feathers on Hraesvelgr and Nidhogg. The dragon-humanoid hybrids are (HEAVENSWARD SPOILERS FOR THOSE READING THIS) the product of the dissemination of the bloodlines of the original Knights Twelve, who, having eaten the eyes of Ratatoskr, have dragon blood in all their progeny, which can be awakened to turn them full-on into dragons - they're not hybrids, and this dragon blood certainly is not evidenced by scales. Perhaps there are beings that are true dragon-hybrids that I've just missed, or I'm misunderstanding what you're referring to, but as far as I know all draconic beings are in fact true dragons.
      3. The comparison to Sekiro is also a weak point I believe. This is a matter of personal interpretation, but I see very little that links FF14 to anything on Fromsoftware's catalogue to be honest. Most of their similarities seem to me either superficial, or incidental (being each inspired by the same things independently, mostly)
      4. The dragons do shapeshift to their needs, but at no point has there even been any display of a dragon taking on human, or even humanoid, form. In fact, one of the Special Deliveries characters that you meet as a Crafter is a young dragon attempting to understand and grow closer to mortalkind, and they actually go through their first round of shapeshifting as they enter adolescence during this questline. Their desire to understand and grow closer to mortals, and to understand their love of building and crafting these silly ephemeral things makes them reach their first point of maturity in such a way that their form adjusts to this desire and that change consists of.... opposable thumbs. Kind of. And this is considered one of the most bizarely mortal-friendly dragons ever by their peers. This is the strongest point here but it still seems unlikely to me
      5. So, we actually know exactly of all the dragons that arrived on Hydaelyn, where they are and what they did, and none of them fit the description of the Dawn Mother and Dusk Father. It is possible that, while Midgardsormr and his 7 direct children weren't involved in the Au Ra creation, but rather one of the seven's brood, it seems unlikely, as even the direct children and/or mates of the 7 Firstborn are given barely a mention in the annals of history. In fact, there are other individuals and figures we know of which are more closely associated with the Dawn Mother and Dusk Father, though they are still tenuous connections at best. Additionally, these are far from the only creator deities in the cultures of Hydaelyn that seem unique, contradictory to, or unnacounted for in others' creation myths - by which i mean that there is no need for their unique mythological origin that seems incongruous with others to be explained by dragons, when it can just as easily explained by natural evolution of mythology.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for personal interpretation, creative license, or straight up headcanon, especially in terms of roleplaying your character - if you choose to believe they are related to dragons, all the more power to you, and I really mean that. However, I think when the game itself and its supplemental material goes out of its way to list all the clear, specific, and concrete obstacles to the dragon theory, and mention that it's a common assumption due to superficial appearance but widely disagreed by experts, while providing only some thematic and circumstancial clues that it could maybe be true after all, I think we have to admit that the dragon-blood theory seems not to hold much water *in established canon*. Additionally, I personally disagree with it because, for one, i think it's much more interesting for the Au Ra to be their own people, not beholden to the mystical lineage of dragons; and for two, the Au Ra being persecuted in Ishgard for the bigoted misconception of them being related to dragons is a MAJOR point in the Dark Knight questline - one of the best storylines in the game, written by the lady who was later in charge of Shadowbringers and Endwalker - and the idea that they are, in fact, related to dragons after all would make that whole conflict kind of.... pointless? Self-defeating? Confused at the very least? But, again, let me stress I am not condemning anyone for choosing to subscribe to the dragon lineage theory for Au Ra - just want to make sure that is a belief that is chosen from an informed perspective, not a misconception.
I think you'll find Lalafel more interesting as you go through the game. Honestly, as a race, they are not overly interesting, being mostly a source of amusement derived from their unassuming or even cute appearance despite being just as capable of seriousness and even evil as anyone else (this is actually the exception to that "uninteresting as a race" thing, as they seem to be indeed involved in some of the most horrifying war crimes in history as you wished for, possibly due to their innate ambition and drive which the flipside of is greed and lack of scruples), but many of the game's best and most beloved characters actually turned out to be the Lalas, and they seem to be involved, as you said, with many of the most interesting areas and events in the lore and story. Sidenote, Ancient Mhach, while the closest predecessor to Belah'dia, and by extension Sil'dih and Ul'dah, was actually situated much further north in a region that is now a swampy marshland. Also, while your observations about lalafel naming structures are accurate to what is commonly seen, as you said, they're not necessarily correct as far as the actual "rules" of the convention are. These rules actually consist of different rhyming schemes. Male Plainsfolk follow an AB-CB scheme for their names (example: Alka Zolka: al KA - zol KA), Female Plainsfolk follow ABB-AB (Mimomo Mimo, MI mo mo - MI mo), Male Dunesfolk follow AAB-CCB (Lalawefu Sil Tatawefu, la la WEFU - ta ta WEFU) and Female Dunesfolk follow AAB-AB (Nanamo Ul Namo, na na MO - na MO). Also, little fun fact: Plainsfolk have large pupils, evolved to see better in the wide open plains they farmed in; while dunsefolk have a glass-like sheen over their eyes to protect from the sunlight and its reflection on the sands. Miqo'te also have this kind of minor distinction: Seekers of the Sun Miqo have cat-like slit pupils, where as Keepers of the Moon have large round pupils but much more pronounced fangs
