Midge nets are a decent solution (beats a pair of tights pulled over the head). I've used them quite often when packing the car after holidaying in the Highlands. Doesn't stop all the blighters though.

Back in the 1970's Torridon was my stomping ground and I was working on the Beinn Eighe Nature Reserve. One of my tasks was to maintain and extend the trail you were following. So, many thanks for your video, it brought back happy memories as wll as some pain!

Great interest in this vid Murray because you've featured our local trek! The Mountain Trail stunned us when we first walked around it's circuit and it continues to do so - we live in Kinlochewe - lucky indeed! And we agree that this route is beyond special in that whoever planned it and engineered it, should get a medal for his/her efforts, it is that good. The Torridon mountains around here are more than special but they are also tough up to serious undertakings yet this route gives you a real taste of the area without being an all day eye balls out toughie. Tremendous in every regard be it views as you progress, track circumstances, acceptable exposure, a great view and only that modest height gain to make - it takes the biscuit it really does and gives us mountain conditions pretty much throughout the year when in reality the big guys around here are effectively out of bounds for most.
It's a great introduction to what lies in store for those who come this far North and West - you won't regret it............ The Kinlochewe Kid.

Scots pine is lovely to walk through as they are bright and clean underneath. Also the golden glow with the sunset are lovely. On the other hand, Scandinavian pine, usually commercial woodland is horrible, dense, dark and devoid of life.

      Scots Pine my favourite tree.
Unfortunately not many stands of them in the Irish hills and many are nearing their end of life with no regeneration as grazing continues to decimate them. I know farmers have to make s living but it would be lovely if some areas could be enclosed to allow these magnificent trees to start afresh.

Fantastic area. We did the circular walk to Leathad Buidhe in May last year and descended by your ascent route. The views back across Loch Maree are amazing, and the Lochans near where you camped are very atmospheric, with Beinn Eighe behind. The view across Loch Maree to Slioch is second to none. It is well documented that some of our best Mountain View’s are from lesser hills. Thanks for sharing.

Although I'm a newcomer to wild camping, only started last spring, I've really enjoyed the camps I've had. As you say you're surprisingly busy from you select your spot, get the tent up, adjustments, getting the sleeping stuff ready, beating off midges if you're unlucky, then the good bit, coffee with a view (hopefully 😉) and a bit of dinner. Nothing beats the sitting on a rock, camp set up and just yourself, the sounds of nature and the mountain as your company for the night.
Really hoping to get out again before winter hits, but if I don't your videos are as close as I get to actually being there. I really appreciate the efforts you make to bring us along with you on your adventures, many thanks, and stay safe!
