  • William McKinley "Jazz" Gillum, vocal and harmonica, with Big Bill Broonzy, rhythm guitar, and George Barnes, electric guitar. Barnes was the first musician to record with an electric guitar, on records with Broonzy on March 1, 1938. Two weeks later he made six recordings, including this one, with Jazz Gillum. Barnes was only sixteen years old at the time, and went on to have a long successful career as a jazz guitarist.
I like the way that the tempo doubles up on this number, at 1:35.

"Barnes was the first musician to record with an electric guitar" No, there were many recordings made on electric guitar before March '38, such as "Blue Guitars" by the Light Crust Doughboys and "Time Out" by Count Basie, both recorded in '37 and both on youtube.
