    This would be an easy run to be a confusing mess, but the runner and his friend do an excellent job of explaining things in a manner that is both clear and fast enough to keep up with the pace of the run.

    I just played this for the first time during the quarantine of 2020. It took me 13 hours. This man did it in 1/60th the time. Jeeze.

      Being able to skip locked doors makes 90-95% of the game avoidable. Though, in fairness, defeating SHODAN makes any of the other missions a moot point.

    This is actually the first time I've ever gotten motion sickness from a game, and it wasn't even through playing it... something about the very slim FOV coupled with the cramped environments and chunky animations. Really cool though how much verticality and connectedness is part of the level design

    • @Protagonist
      @Protagonist 6 лет назад

      I think you can alter the FOV but it screws with the graphics. I was OK with it in fullscreen mode, which gets rid the the pretty obstructive GUI.

    • @Selvyre
      @Selvyre 6 лет назад +3

      That GUI is... some people can argue that maybe modern games aren't as good or whatever (though I'll disagree since that argument usually hinges on outliers anyway), but one thing a lot of modern games have right is the UI, and System Shock came in at an unfortunate time for that. That GUI is a monster. The GUI paired with the FOV, further paired with the movement that I personally feel aged like milk in the sun just made an otherwise good game unplayable to me.
      At least it's a game that I can appreciate the legacy of, even if I won't play it myself.

    • @Nettacki
      @Nettacki 6 лет назад

      KC Halcomb luckily, the Enhanced Edition allows you to increase the FOV and resolution, which should help reduce feelings of motion sickness a bit. However, the odd movement is still there, so it may still affect you somewhat.

    • @watchm4ker
      @watchm4ker 2 года назад

      @@Selvyre It was a combination of factors. The small game window was to cut down on rendering, especially as the game was a beast for most systems, and couldn't use a lot of the tricks ID would use in Wolf3D and Doom. The complex movement was from inexperience. The ability to lean, duck, crawl, and look up and down were novel concepts for Ultima Underworld, and conventions like WASD, let alone mouse look, wouldn't be standard until Quake 2.
      All of which was such a frustrating state of affairs, since System Shock is an important game to study, where game design is concerned. And where the Enhanced Edition is almost vital.
