Just bought Monster Rancher 4 for PS2 after losing it years ago. I miss when games had booklets, and when the booklets had lore and other fun tidbits in it.
@@i9169345 I pirate games cause I don't have the funds. If I like the game I buy it down the road. Same with emulators. My Wii U is filled with games I can very easily emulate myself but instead choose to play on a dying system!
I make my own policy every time to pirate game: 1. Pirate if that game is not available in my country 2. Pirate if that game is beyond expensive ~$75 3. Pirate if that game is from company that causing problems on their games 4. Buy if that game on sale
i have to pretty much disagree with that, dude if you live in a third world country service is hardly the issue, most people wouldn't mind installing 5 freaking game stores just to get some free games but the pricing is the major issue most AAA's are more or almost as much as the avg. monthly wage and its not like most people have high end hardware, 80% people have low end systems which barely run the games to begin with, piracy is the norm here, i remember few years back there were pirated game, movies etc markets setup and heck even cops would buy from there, overall the feeling of buying a game is amazing and most people here would want to but unless there is no regional pricing etc, piracy is what people are gonna prefer
There are so many classic PS2 games that I wish I could just pop in the disc and play on a newer PlayStation system. Would be a definite drive for me to get a PS5 if I could play my old titles and new titles all on one system. My old PS2 has trouble reading some disks.
I don't know what they built my mothers PS2 with but that shit was given to her by the dev company before the console was officially released and it still runs like clockwork to this day. It survived the abuse of 3 full childhoods, me and my brothers. Edit: The company was called barrysworld and I just looked it up they ran multiplayer gaming servers for CS, HL, Q, Q2, Q3, TF and UT so shit when it dies, Im gonna have to strip it open, it might be jacked up on steroids lol.
it’s an unfortunate truth that software media will always be susceptible to this. a movies a movie, a books a book, you can consume it no matter what. but video games will always require a compatible operating system and hardware. over time it gets harder and harder to preserve these pieces of software
Which is weird, considering how much companies are out there that are straight up banking on nostalgia. You'd think that they'd put more effort on preserving their older stuff.
@@selfishteammate Movies suffer a similar risk, if you want the best possible quality readily available. Formats and hardware steadily shift and upgrade much like games do. The difference is a lot more money is set aside for movie preservation. At least there quite a few people in high places take it seriously.
They'd certainly be inaccessible to most people at least. I think if you bought a NES when it released and looked after it, and stored the cartridges someplace dry, they're probably all still basically in mint condition. But you don't see many people selling them like that. The games are still not too bad. Ironically PS1 games are way worse, presumably because discs back then got damaged easier. It's easy to forget how much more durable and scratch resistant blu-ray discs are compared to CD ROMs. But iirc the entire NES and SNES game library comes in at under 2GB so... emulation is kinda the easiest option lol.
@@yewtewbstew547 my gf got the emulation station and its been great, every console up to the n64 and dreamcast although along with the ps1 have limited games and it starts to struggle with 3d.. completing arcade total carnage has been fun though
What kills me is Sony and Nintendo have a license to take my money by giving me ways to play my old games and re-releasing them somehow AND THEY DON’T DO IT
I'm so glad to see somebody cares as much about that generation as much as I do and is upset to see how hard Sony has sidelined it. I hope they can develop a component emulator of the cell processor so we can at least run them natively instead of having to shoddily stream it
@@lawofanubis2996 Not recommended to judge a console library in its early stages. The PS4 had an impressive line-up of games after 8 years since its launch.
Never owned any consoles growing up until recently when I bought used PS2 from my friend, been playing games like.... Dot Hack, "Tales Of" series, Dragon Ball / Naruto / Tekken games etc and what I realized is how *complete* these games feel, there are rarely any bugs, no patches required and everything just works ever so smoothly As opposed to many games which release in an incomplete state, require some updates or constant internet connection when there's no requirement... Truly an era of gaming I missed out on
Things really got out of hand this last decade when companies realized they could just release the game now and fix whatever issues it has later. Given that Nintendo was still behind in technology a lot of games they released even during the 3DS and Wii U games didn't really require update patches. But as the generation went along and by the time we got to Nintendo switch Nintendo has more or less caught up to the other companies with this mindset.
I modded my PS3 a few years ago and have just now started to use it a lot more. I've been collecting games as well as running games off of a hard drive I purchased just for the system. It's been a blast and I wish Sony appreciated how great this system is

PS3 games should've got flat out remasters because a ton of games from that era aged about as well as the N64. Poor framerates just make certain consoles eras preferable on emulator or new editions wilth all the content on disc.
And people keep buying this bullshit they come out with. 'we want to play our PlayStation 3 games' Well then go buy a fucking PlayStation 3 And go buy some discs. Why the fuck do you keep giving Sony money.
"relic from the past" makes no sense, since the word "relic" means and object surviving from the past. It's like saying "RIP in peace". And saying the ps3 is a relic is dumb in itself, it's historically important and interesting but it's not a relic.
When you say that Sony should care more about their PS3 games, I completely agree with you. I’ve been itching to play Metal Gear Solid 4 for a long time, but unfortunately it’s a PS3 exclusive so I can’t play it on next gen hardware. I could play it on an emulator, however my pc doesn’t have the specs necessary for it to run on playable speeds.
I wish Sony cared about...anything besides money, honestly. They've already caused lots of controversy this generation, and I doubt they're done. Seriously, paying for demos, cloud saves, and limited backwards compatibility? What a joke.
They care about money because people keep giving it to them? If you're unhappy with Sony, Then stop giving the money. Encourage other people to stop giving Sony money. I'm sick and tired of hearing people do nothing but fucking complain at their keyboard and then continue to do the exact fucking thing they're complaining about.
@@universalunion7920 something like that but instead of a certain chunk of a level and a small play amount they let you download the whole game and give you like 4 hours and let you start at the beginning
Up until recently I was still playing my Playstation 3. I need to replace the disc drive unfortunately. I found a PlayStation 1 in the dumpster last year and have been playing that here and there. The old classics never die
You could look into jailbreaking it to run games directly off the hard drive (replace the stock one with a 1TB) instead of using discs. It just means that you'd need to "acquire" the games in file format and copy them over via USB drive or FTP, since obviously you can't rip your own discs with a broken blu-ray drive.
I honestly can't figure out why Sony is only offering PS3 backwards support only via cloud streaming. Unless they are running these games on the actual Cell chips, they are emulating it anyways. They probably already have a dedicated ps3 emulation system in place. It's possible they are running these ps3 games on ARM chips, which are similar to PowerPC in that they both use a RISC based architecture. But with that being said, the Cell still doesn't follow your standard CPU design.
@@umb3rto641, you've gotta be kidding me..... That is so lazy. I get emulating the Cell is hard because it doesn't follow standard practices, but that's just....
Emulating on a super powerful server in the cloud and a PS5 are pretty different. Even third party emulators like RCPS3 require a beefy CPU and even then it’s not always going to run as good as original hardware.
Problem with that they are made to run on fundamentally different hardware and ins some cases like with PS2 you need a special drive for that, that is basically incompatible with blueray.
@@Graine01 I'd literally buy a console with 3 damn trays, as long as I could play all the old PlayStation games on one single system. Same goes for Nintendo consoles tbh. People like us who want to play our old library are also more likely to spend more money on modern hardware to play old games. If they ALSO included access to digital titles, they could sell additional games for more profit as well. Honestly, if they sold a console that could play PS1-PS4 games, I'd pay several hundred dollars for that. More than a PS5.
A favorite fighting game of mine came out at the end of that era, Tekken Tag 2 for 360, PS3, and Wii U with its special Nintendo edition. It's been strange following the franchise as its latest title in the franchise, 7, came out on PC in 2017 and I had gotten into PC gaming just a year prior. I was primarily on PlayStations in my console days. I also had a 360, but only got it for its exclusives because the PS3 had free online so I used it for everything else before switching to PC when Sony decided to do the same thing with the PS4. I want to play Tag 2 again, but it never came to PC. even though it may be one of the most chaotic, difficult, and questionably balanced fighting game. Right now the only way I have to play it is on my actual PS3. I don't even know if that game's online servers are still active, and the inconvenience of taking my PS3 everywhere I move which I haven't bothered with is why I haven't really played it in years and it's pretty sad
Tekken tag 2 is the Goat!! f🤬k 7 Completely ruined the feel of the combat and killed couch play no team battles nothing just a vs mode. But the worst? making us pay for characters that have been in the games since ps1 era as dlc utter garbage especially considering the lineup tag 2 and 6 had. Such a shame probably the best game in the series is drowning in last gen whilst were stuck with inferiority imo
Tekken 6 was my favourite. Use to love to play the scenario campaigne mode on hard to get all the gear for all fighters. Even played that mode online for free, which would have better drop rate for the S-tier gear, and the enemy layout was changed up a bit similar to new game plus. Had a blast with that.

I only use it to play games that either disappear from Xbox backwards compatibility or Sony exclusives on PlayStation 3. I hope that a +stable+ emulator for the PS3 releases on Android/iOS, so I can play them with ease even if my PS3 does die.
Game preservation is something that these console companies could really make a ton of money on if they would go about it the right way. I would gladly buy all of my PS2+PS3 library on a PS5 depending on cost per game. There’s a lot of games I have 2,3, and 4 copies of just so I’ll always have a playable copy.
why dont you buy a ps2 and a ps3 than.. ask for servers to play online those games not for a console that plays everything. there are plenty of used ps2 n 3. buy them.
@@theDeMentalStewie Because that's far from a perfect solution. To play old games on modern displays, deinterlaced and on modern resolutions, requires other hardware. And like Muta said in the video, sooner or later, hardware dies out. Software is a lot easier to perserve.

@@theDeMentalStewie I really don't get what you're trying to say with progress and happiness. Playing games on original hardware will always have a special charm to it, I'm not gonna try to deny that, I'd be stupid if I did, but saying that games lose all their value as individual experiences just because you can have them all backed up into a hard drive is incredibly reductive at best, if not downright disrespectful to the artform and all the work that goes into emulation and game preservation. Most people don't exactly have the time or money to spend scouring for old hardware or physical media, especially people like me who don't live in metropolitan areas where antique tech is a rarity that's often imported from outside the community. And even when you do have access to the original hardware, emulators often times still provide a better experience. As I write this, in my bedroom, I can see my old childhood PS2 Slim and the CRT I used to use with it. It's all still hooked up and ready to use, if I felt like it. In a shelf, sits my old copy of Gran Turismo 4. It's a game that I've recently gone back to, and it's been a joy to reexperience it, but I didn't do it on original hardware. Stuff like hardware issues regarding saving and the low resolution of the CRT display make emulation a much more convenient, accessible, and practical option. A different example is the PS2 Ace Combat trilogy. They're games I'd never played before, but had a chance to experience thanks to emulation. And then there's, of course, the treasure trove of experiences that ROMhacks can give you, each one being a labor of love carefully sculpted by people who put their time and effort and work into that experience because they love the original game, and love the artform, more often than not having no financial incentive to do it. I don't see a reason for older games to be something that's locked away behind layers of illegality and messing with emulator settings (and depending on what kind of game you want to play, having a beefy enough PC to handle running it), or otherwise something that should be exclusive to people who collect old hardware and physical media. And it's not as if there's no demand for it- For example, the Switch has many faults, but one of its worst is the fact that its online stone doesn't have a library of old games available to purchase, unlike its predecessors. Its subscription based service that offers a selection of games isn't a proper replacement with how few it has to offer, and to this day, I and many other people whine and complain about that fact. People want to have a legal avenue to play old games without the hassle of having to scour for and set up old hardware, and companies still refuse to meet that demand, for seemingly no reason.
I recently started emulating DJ Hero 2 on RPCS 3 with a PS3 turntable and it's been an amazing trip back down memory lane, especially with the community able to create custom mixes for the game now. It really made me crave true PS3 backwards compatibility recently.
@kc korea THANK YOU....it is possible to do both💯Nowadays they could care less what the final product is when it can just as easily be written off as a loss...
The dumb thing about that 2017 comment people were making, assuming it is in reference to Xbox, is that it's you don't need to pay *again.* If you already own the game on disc, and it's compatible, you can just pop that in your Xbox and it basically acts as a license key that lets you download and play the upscaled emulated version for "free". Whoever at Xbox came up with that idea is a good guy and never should have to pay for a beer again in their life. Is it backwards compatibility like they call it? Ehh, no not _really,_ it's emulation, but it's extremely good emulation. If Sony did something similar for PS3 games on PS5, they'd gain a lot of goodwill with their fans. edit: Ironically Sony actually _did_ do this for PS1 games on PS3 Slim. The fat PS3's could run PS1 games on hardware, but on a PS3 slim the PS1 games are actually running via software emulation. So they've done this before.
The PS2 is my favorite console of all time, but I think the PS3 might be my favorite now because of how that generation of gaming was a little bit better in my opinion due to me experiencing online gaming for the first time with Black Ops 2 and that there are a lot of HD Collections of PS2 games on the PS3 that I’m currently playing through since they look and sound better
And the amazing thing about the Ps3 is that if you buy yourself the right version you can play all the Ps2 and Ps1 games as well. I was excited for the new Plus levels but, for me, it doesn't look like it's going to be a subscription service worth paying for when getting up off my ass to plug in the Ps3 hdmi is free. I just wish I could play those games with a better controller.
@@jeremyodwyer9232 Try and find the PowerA brand wireless controller with the dongle, it looks like an Xbox controller but made for the PS3, you do need the dongle and 3 AAA batteries for the controller for it to work, the controller is a little thick, but it’s perfect for my big hands and since I don’t like the DualShock 3 cause of the clicking of the L3 and the R3 doesn’t work very well and the triggers suck
I still don't feel this is very comparable to Game Pass Ultimate though... Just knowing all 1st party games are day & date releases is a firm guarantee of what games will be there AND is the exact thing that saves the most money. No wondering, no waiting for announcements, just knowing they're gonna be there & not having to rush out to drop $70+ to try the newest game. Plus being available across both PC & Xbox is massively underrated. I only game on PC & Switch atm, & having access to so many games for dirt cheap is insane. Sony may be pricing & presenting this like a GP competitor, but right now it's certainly not.
At this point I think muta it's just doing stuff like this for clicks. There's absolutely no reason why anybody should continue to give Sony or Nintendo money. The PlayStation 3 is cheap to buy and the switch is fully hacked and can be played on even lower end computers with emulation. There is absolutely no reason why we should keep giving Nintendo or Sony any money.
It's funny how video games have followed the exact same evolutionary path as music and moves have. Basically from physical media, to digital media, to subscription based services. Yet, the former two are regarded as art and are thus preserved at the state level. Yet the latter is preserved via hobbyists and/or piracy.

Well, with RPCS3 improving emulation on the daily, I wonder if Sony could strike a deal with the devs to implement it on PS5. If anything, Sony's within their rights to use RPCS3 to enable the distribution of digital copies of PS3 games on newer hardware. But in RPCS3's current state, there's too many emulation errors and I doubt Sony would want to give their customers an inferior method of playing games that might damage Playstation's reputation.
Well Sony have all the documentation to make it run better than RPCS3. The problem is RPCS3s open source requirements would mean Sony would need to publish their edits to the emulator. That being said they could absolutely make a great emulator, considering RPCS3 was made for free by a few people
The Playstation 3 and 360 were some of he best jumps on technology for gaming, just think that once the PS3 hits that 50 year mark how much more we will look up to this simple yet sophisticated piece of hardware that costs only around $500 to make (which is cheap when configuring a console and all of its parts.)
The way I see it is that when the PS3 hits the 50 year mark we're going to look at it the same way that folks now look at the Sony Walkman, a primitive but effective device that got the job done.
I'm one of the people who has every game and system I've ever owned still. All of them used, but still in their original boxes. PS1/2/3, Xbox, Xbox360, Gamecube, and so on. The older systems. One day I'll have something people may pay a lot of money for. However, for now? I like being able to whip out and play Spyro or Frogger 3D whenever I want. That or Naruto Clash of Ninja on the Gamecube. If you're younger I suggest you keep your consoles and games if possible. Money aside, being able to play something you WILL one day have a harder time finding is a great thing for your nostalgia and inner child.
As a kid I thought Sony were the “good guys” of gaming since you didn’t have to pay to play online and that Microsoft were greedy for using a subscription service to play online. Now that I’m older, I don’t see why I ever had that opinion
People keep giving the money. It doesn't matter as long as people keep giving them money. They will never listen to their consumer base because they know they'll buy again anyway.
I heald that same opinion and honestly it does make some sense. Looking back, I realize there were no "good guys" but the free online did make them seem a lot more pro-consumer then XBox. Was sad and kinda impressive to see how many PlayStation fans went from trashing XBox over paid online to licking Sony's boots when they did it with the PS4. I stuck to my principles though and just played 7th gen (and older) hardware nearly the entire 8th gen, then got a PC. I have little interest in any modern console exclusives and even if I did, how restrictive consoles are combined with how complex they have become, I'm not comfortable being that reliant on the wims of huge corperations.
You weren't wrong tho, maybe sony isn't good , true, but Microsoft isn't good either . They're like apple in this sense, you blame other companies for removing charger but apple was the one who came up with the idea and proved it works.
One of the main reasons for me dropping consoles out was the paid online becoming norm. Dont regret it since I can experience all the same games on PC (and some more) with only few exclusive exceptions.
Tokyo Jungle- For some reason gave me more chills than most horror games and I couldn't play a lot of lt, but I still really like it as a game and concept
I remember the original MotorStorm came with my PS3 and was absolutely blown away by the power of the console and the game. When I see it today, it still amazes me how good the graphics are. To this day, I still listen to the soundtrack when I workout because that game is so good!
Bro it was MotorStorm Apocalypse for me, I still replay the Story mode to this day at let me just say that I am still blown the fuck away by the sheer amount of stuff happening in the background from the Molotov cocktails being thrown at your car to the machine gun rioters who occasionally shoot at you and the helicopters who follow you during the race to lay down suppressive fire on the protesters. Bruz this game had it all, not to mention the customisation for your cars, trucks and motorbikes, infact I don't think I'll ever stop playing it, so yeah I agree you, all hail MotorStorm and fuck PS4/PS5 🖕😆🖕
Motorstorm was a really impressive title, loved how mud and dirt would get thrown up onto your vehicle and actually collect in different spots depending on where it landed. Shame they removed that Pacific Rift in favor of uniform "slowely gets dirtier everywhere" system, though the addition of 4-player split screen was more than worth it! TBH I'd really love to see old games get re-released on newer systems and instead of making the graphics prettier, just add more players. Can you imagine Ace Combat 5, Mercenaries, or GTA San Andreas with 4-player split screen? That would be insane!
This is one reason why I’m on the Xbox side. They truly invested into making backwards compatibility here to stay. Sony saw the backlash from its users and had to play catch-up and are still playing catch-up to Microsoft. Microsoft as a console and PC/media company has been an ally for gamers to preserve the games we loved and still love to play today.
LOL no they dont. A SMALL list of backwards compatible games is NOT truly investing into backwards compatibility LOL. If they had their whole catalog of games available, that would be different..

I got a PS4 recently, and was very disappointed to find that it didn't have backwards compatibility - especially since like, the entire Ratchet & Clank franchise is on the PS3. and I really wanted to play those. I've used PSNow before, but even with our gigabit internet it's just annoying to have the cloud streaming. The slight lag just fucks you over when doing platforming. If they made this new PS+ like Game Pass (where you could download the game, and for PS3 & before it'd be an emulator or something) it'd be a good fix. Bit annoying, but better than nothing.
You could have gotten a second handed vita if you wanted to play those backwards compatibility games like the ratchet and clank/jak and daxter trilogy for less expense than a ps4 +psn now
Although I had a PS2 I was too young to really get into it, the PS3 was my first real experience in gaming so it has a lot of sentimental value to me. it's kind of sad how Sony doesn't seem to care about it's preservation at all.
Emulation is great, I have friends that doesn't live close to me, we play a lot of Switch, SNES etc in co-op/hotseat via Parsec. some people would never be able to play local multiplayer games together with others, without emulation.
My PS3 Slim is the first and last brand new console I purchased. I still have the original best buy receipt and box, all my games, etc. I still *play it* very often too, especially GT 5, Skyrim, COD BO I, GTA IV (actually has old Russian songs that have been axed from Steam). I love that it's so old but I can turn it on and relive my middle school bliss days again
Top games I would LOVE to see on the PS4 backwards compatibility list: Call of Duty: World at War (PS3 Title) Grand Theft Auto 4 (PS3 Title) The Godfather (PS2 Title) Scarface: The World is Yours (PS2 Title) If you can play ANY or ALL these games on PS4 through cloud gaming or any other backwards compatibility method. That would be awesome!
That doesn't make any sense. Just because you know how it works doesn't mean you know how to replicate it in a different environment. Can't just tell the PS5 "hey man its your older brother from a decade ago, you should know how to emulate it". If Sony does it, it's not because they know how the PS3 works
The Ps2 and 3 had content-full games, not pieces of games and "standard editions". The games still hold up today imo, hence why no total backwards compatibility, and why graphics and relevance are now sought over replay value. Good things last too well so they're purposely "lost to time"
@John Mangum Fair point, but I saw that maybe 3% of the time. There were wayyy more games then as well which makes it even more of a slap to us for Sony to ignore their own library. It's just bad business, its unfortunate
@John Mangum because people bashed the PS3 when it was backwards compatible with the PS2 and PS1. Then they simped for Sony when the PS4 didn’t have that and charged for online gamers can only blame themselves.
Xbox 360 and PS3 were the last good generation before the dark times Gaming journal 2022 "What I remember about the decline in gaming quality is how fast it was. I got my PS3 in 2010 and still works 12 years later. It has never had an issue. Yeah it costed more than the 360 but all the people I knew who had 360s had to keep getting new ones because they kept breaking, while my PS3 stood the test of time.
I got my PS3 Slim in 2011 and it still works. The CMOS battery died some time at the end of last year (so it can't remember the date/time once it shuts down) but aside from that it's fine. And I put CFW on it ages ago so I'm not worried about losing my games. tbf both the launch 360 and "fat" PS3 had severe manufacturing issues that resulted in the red-ring-of-death and yellow-ring-of-death respectively. The PS3 Slim and Xbox 360 S were of far higher build quality, and most will have survived this long I suspect. If you still have a working original fat PS3, that's pretty impressive.
I really wish it was just as simple as getting the RPCS3 crew to get their project on the system since it is already been done more or less. And work with them to get games like RDR going. But obviously that is way easier said than done.
Don't let Sony tell you it can't be done, cause they can: - Japanese PS3's had the *PS2 hardware* in their consoles. - The western manufactured PS3's ran *software emulation.* If the PS4 and PS5 are _"how many times"_ more powerful of the PS3, then why can't the software be run on them? Sony could update their consoles, but then how would they make you *re-buy* your games for the 40th time........ Greedy prats.
Sony not bringing ps2 hardware to all ps3’s in North America and everywhere else is a crime. I always wished I could play my ps2 games on my Ps3. And it hurts worse when you realize you can play ps1 games on all ps3’s
All the japanese and NA launch models (A and B models) had full PS2 hardware which included the PS2s CPU and GPU. Later they cut back hardware for the NA and EU market and released the “partial emulation” models (E models for NA and C models for European launch), which still had the PS2s GPU on the PS3s motherboard but emulated the PS2 CPU which was still good. From the G models to P models, Slims, and Super slims, all PS2 compatibility was killed off and the hardware was removed from the system all-together to cut costs.
Three absolutely monumental moments in my life. The day I got married. The day my daughter was born. The day I discovered I could replay the entire Timesplitters series using PCSX2.
Im so sad that i traded my PS3 back when i got a PS4, even at the time i was hesitant about it, i still have all of my games, every cod made for ps3 are in their respective boxes up on a shelf. I didn’t care too much for the PS4 because once i started my PC building hobby i gave it to my little sister for her and my Nephew to have. I wish i would have held onto my PS3, playing BO2 and falling asleep to the menu music were the good days. I now do the same with plutonium but the lobbys aren’t quite as fun/easy hahaha
I definitely regret trading in a lot of things over the years. Of course this was because I didn't have a job at the time at the time and the very idea that I could fade in my old games and get a brand new game that I wanted cheaper just seems like a really good idea at the time but in hindsight I was actively ripping myself off. I still occasionally trade in games whenever there's a really good deal but even then I do have some regret since I usually bought that game for a really good price.
@@GenerationZ313 yea one day im going buy a PS3, the same version i had just to have it. Nothing will beat the original i had but it was definitely aging. The PS4 sounded like a Jet, i have 6 fans and a AIO pump and 3 GPU fans all at 100% and i swear it’s quieter than my PS4 was. But yea im holding onto my games for now.
A new leak suggests they are actually working on a PS3 emulator. If you think about it, the PS3 server blades are going to fail eventually so it makes sense on an emulator.
I wish they did what Microsoft did and white-list PS3 games they get the rights to use them on the PS5, digital and disc. I like my PS3 but the controller is not friendly with my hands.
Miss my PS3, started overheating after certain periods of time depending on the game. Weirdly, after I gave it to a friend who took it apart, deep cleaned and replaced the thermal paste on the board, it would STILL refuse to work for more than 20 mins at a time. Even so definitely one of the best consoles I've ever had.
Muta rockin' the man bun! Lookin' good buddy! I love physical media. Huge vinyl guy, and I've kept all my hard disc video games through the 90s and on.
PS3 was and will be my last console purchase. I mean I've always been more of a PC gamer anyway, but I'm not some weirdo cult member who can't admit that consoles have always had a place. The PS3 was (and still is) an awesome piece of hardware, but as Mutahar said eventually capacitors blow and there goes your entire library. Enough of that shit, they can't be trusted. And now that we have GamePass, why even bother? Every few months you get a crazy deal for $1.99 / month to play ANYTHING (obviously excluding console exclusives, the less said about that the better). Sad to say, the future is PC. And emulation. I still break out Stella & Bleem now and again, not to mention the almighty MAME. There are probably better options available now, but if it's not broke don't fix it. Ok, I should read up on more modern emulation.
You should definitely look at modern emulators if you're still using bleem. Duckstation is a newer and very good PS1 emu with tons of features and doesn't need to mess with plugins and mess with arcane settings, and has really good compatibility. RetroArch in general is good to run a ton of systems for general use since it loads emulator core code from other emulators into a general framework and so emulates dozens of systems. Systems up through GameCube, PS2, Wii, PSP, 3DS have been emulated pretty well now at this point.
My latest was an XBox 360, but only because it was $15 at a thrift store (actually bought 3 for that price, all S models). PS3 is the newest system I actually bought new at retail though. I'm in a similar boat with just using PC these days, though I haven't messed with emulators much as I've got all the original Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo systems from 5th-7th gen lying around, might as well use them.
@@Gazzoosethe1 Happy to hear it, but unless you're handy with a soldering iron that could all change tomorrow. Cheap, mass-produced electronic components have a finite lifespan. Agreed. For the Wii games I am happy that I can play a game called Conduit 2 via Dolphin Emulator and play it online too via the Wiimmfi servers that replace the online for Wii. Because if it wasn't for those things my favorite game of all time would ve gone. All the memories I made in the game and outside the game with tons of commentaries, gaming montages, and even just editing the C2 (Conduit 2) Wikia to make sure all the information was correct was some of THE best experiences in my life. I still on occasion get people commenting on my old C2 montages saying that this brings them back to the good ole days and they just love seeing what was done. I am happy that emulation is a thing. And I would hate to see this for a system that while I did not play nor cared too much for personally, I know A LOT of people did and I want them to enjoy that myself. Because gosh dang. It is a great feeling for real for real.

Durin Covid of 2020 I used it for a while until the red light appeared. Fortunately I was able to get a PS5 in June 2021, which wasn't easy coz I had to make over 100 reserves in different stores and battling Bots on Amazon. Till one day I got a call from a store in the next city over. I spent 4 hrs going and 4 hrs coming back, not stopping for anything, in fact I spent only 15 mins getting the Ps5. Everything about last year was good until Feb 2022 when my home got broken into and my PS5 was stolen, thank God we had CCTV cameras in our area and the cops got the thieves.

Lifelong gamer here. I love having old school games! I was a young child when the original Nintendo first came out in 1985. I own the majority of all the common, and even less common systems starting with Nintendo. I love playing games on the original systems. I absolutely agree we need emulation to preserve all the games those systems represent, as well as all future games because they will eventually turn to dust. Really great video!
The fact that I need to breakout a PS3 to play any of the original Ratchet & Clank trilogy games is sad. And if I want to play the actual original games of the trilogy, I have to get out my PS2. Yet on Xbox I can play original Xbox games on my Series X. Edit: and emulating the games on PCSX2 is still pretty demanding, I don’t have the desire to spend the necessary funds for hardware required to emulate these games good enough to play.

i have to pretty much disagree with that, dude if you live in a third world country service is hardly the issue, most people wouldn't mind installing 5 freaking game stores just to get some free games but the pricing is the major issue most AAA's are more or almost as much as the avg. monthly wage and its not like most people have high end hardware, 80% people have low end systems which barely run the games to begin with, piracy is the norm here, i remember few years back there were pirated game, movies etc markets setup and heck even cops would buy from there, overall the feeling of buying a game is amazing and most people here would want to but unless there is no regional pricing etc, piracy is what people are gonna prefer

Without emulation, the NES, Atari, Sega, and probably even more modern consoles would be lost to time already.

Toxic Sony Fans in 2022: Haha, we have to pay for old games, yes!
lmao
Don't get that psn now exist since 2014
The dumb thing about that 2017 comment people were making, assuming it is in reference to Xbox, is that it's you don't need to pay *again.* If you already own the game on disc, and it's compatible, you can just pop that in your Xbox and it basically acts as a license key that lets you download and play the upscaled emulated version for "free".

I love the 360 and all and that was the console I had as a kid but honestly the PS3 is a lot more intriguing to me.

My ps3 also still works, meanwhile my friends went through several 360's
yeah those early 360s broke down very easily due to defective gpus
I'm guess I'm lucky, my 360 has lasted me since 2009
I got my PS3 Slim in 2011 and it still works.
The year early launch of the 360 definitely hindered how many kept breaking down before even years of being out
I really wish it was just as simple as getting the RPCS3 crew to get their project on the system since it is already been done more or less. And work with them to get games like RDR going. But obviously that is way easier said than done.
Don't let Sony tell you it can't be done, cause they can:
- Japanese PS3's had the *PS2 hardware* in their consoles.
- The western manufactured PS3's ran *software emulation.*
If the PS4 and PS5 are _"how many times"_ more powerful of the PS3, then why can't the software be run on them?
