What's hilarious to me about both PS and Xbox is how they allow you to play free-to-play games online for free. This means that you don't have to pay them to play games you don't pay for. But, you DO have to pay them a sub fee to play games you DID pay for. It's crazy.

I totally agree, I absolutely hate how they make you subscribe to a service to use basic features like multiplayer after already purchasing the game. Multiplayer isn't just some add-on, it's a basic feature that you should be able to use without having to pay anything extra in games that have it.
They will still have sales every year. I got premium for 90$ a couple months ago during an event. It will never be 90 again, but surely will have a 120-130 sale next year
They lose money when selling you the console. Both Xbox and Sony. So they gotta do it or we can deal with lower quality everything. Like controllers and consoles, wires ect.

Hence why competition is good. Such as when Gopro started to get lazy by not creating a front screen on their gopro but instead sold a second screen as an extra accessory. Of which DJI chose to listen to gopro consumers by creating a front screen action camera. Which caused gopro to be forced to adapt or die out.

As someone who grew up with a playstation too and had a lot of great memories with it, it feels sad seeing the current state of this whole situation. More money to pay, less games and enjoyment, that was totally the contrary in the past.
I hate when people like you whine about things being worse. Games are not more expensive. Maybe compared to like 3 years ago, but PS1 and even PS2 games (for example), costs more than a modern 70 dollar game. That's a fact, even Muta admitted that. It is really disheartening. I was such a huge PlayStation fan and loved Japan Studios and a lot of their other exclusives. This generation they canned Japan Studios and have a much slower output of exclusives and variety. They are doubling down on Live Service. Increasing prices, and releasing odd products like PlayStation Portal. Tells you not to buy into brand loyalty.
I remember buying GTA 2 for the playstation as a kid in a game store and the guy gave me a free demo disc with it. They used to hand those bad boys out like candy on Halloween. The whole point of a demo is to give people a free sample so they can decide if they actually want to spend money on the game or not. The idea of paying to get access to demos is ludicrous.
Charging $80 to play online in 2023 is highway robbery. Sony and Microsoft will say they need to do it to keep console prices low, but thats just a bad excuse. These subscription services bring in an insane amount of money for doing NOTHING.

The Steam Deck is able to run most modern releases, and you can get a desktop better than it for half of its $400 price. Some people don't need 4K or 60FPS, they just wanna play a video game. With a cheap PC, they can do that.
The actual pricing for this gets more insane here in Australia when the Premium tier will cost nearly $200. That's about as much buying two AAA games. No subscription service should ever cost that much unless you really like getting parted with your money.

Free online was the reason why I chose PS3 instead of XBOX 360 back in the day. Being pc gamer the idea of paying for basic online gaming was wild to me.
@@FlamespeedyAMV I'm from Russia and the cost of subscription was pretty hefty considering currency exchange. I barely bought any games for PS3 even, almost my entire library was from that free games pack after infamous Sony hack. The cost of single PS3 game was like 20% of your monthly wage.
@@FlamespeedyAMV When I got my 360 I fully intended to play both on PS3 and 360, but my PS3 online connection was so much worse than on 360. I had shit internet and it wasn't good every day but being able to go a day or two without lagging out of a multiplayer session felt great and I just stopped playing on PS3 without even realising it. Also party chat. I genuinely believe that whoever it was at Sony that decided to limit private voice chats to being off-game only was hit in the head at some point before they brought the idea to their higher ups and never recovered.
Same here man. Now Sony and Nintendo started doing it and I became exclusively a pc gamer (and the only console games I play now is on an emulator because console exclusive games is pain when paid online is required).

The simple solution to this is for people to just not buy PS+ yet no one will actually do that. The reason companies always screw over consumers is because people allow anti consumer practices to happen. No one can coordinate other people and agree to stand against blatant greed.

I stopped supporting PS+ since August 2016 because i am against the online multiplayer paywall bullcrap and i won't ever again renew my PS+ subscription as long as that stupid paywall exist on Playstation's ecosystem. It sucks that some people defend that anti-consumer business practice. If Sony doesn't remove the online multiplayer paywall from the Playstation ecosystem by the time the PS6 becomes a thing' i will not support the PS6 at all. I wish big content creators from the gaming community like him started a movement to get people to boycott PS+.

That’s not how it works in reality. Catering to the rich market has a greater profit incentive. Hence why cars come out with more luxury feature but more expensive when they can make a basic car for cheap.
I once suggested they make online multiplayer paid with a *_one-time payment_* as opposed to making it a monthly/yearly subscription. I still stand by that suggestion.

You only lose the games that are on the catalog. You keep the essential tier games, but you have to have ps plus in order to play them. In any case, it's still absolute bullshit.

I grew up playing PlayStation consoles but had to switch to PC because the yearly subscription service was too much for too little. I repurchased some games on Steam and I was still able to connect and play with a controller on games such as fighting games. Totally worth it. I just wish all games had cross progression and not just a few.
PC is way better it all went down hill after ps3 but i've had both for years and i've noticed in all the games i played online on pc and console console always had a superior number of players vs the same game on PC
@damienwalker4399 I'd assume that's probably due to consoles generally being considered easier to get into. You don't really have to do much set up, and building a decent gaming rig can put a dent in the piggy bank. Cross-progression should always be a priority when these "AAA" companies launch any multiplayer game, but it definitely isn't.

Yup I am the same way. I'm sure there are some ps plus games that make it worth it.. The one year I got ps plus at an extremely low christmas sale. Like I believe it was near 20 bucks for a year... I couldnt pass that offer up. Ended up getting all the Uncharted games, the Ezio trilogy and some other things that made it well worth it. Granted I can no longer access them because thats how ps plus works, but I played all of them to completion. Since they were games I hadn't played before (other than AC 2), I had a lot of fun. But it still feels like crap to pay for a service solely for the internet (which is probably the main reason I'd get it). Its a lot of money to throw away when I can get multiple free games from Epic Store on PC plus Steam always has a ton of deals all year round. The internet access should be a given for all consoles. Specifically the online multiplayer. We give them so much money in other ways they really have no good excuse other than price gouging.
Trust me, in next generation console, they gonna discontinued making disk version of their console to terminate used games market share just to maximize profit margin.

I’m so glad someone as big as you is talking about this, I’ve had PlayStation for 4 years and I stopped paying for its services 2 years ago, by playing games like console rust, and Fortnite, and even occasionally r6s I was able to play multiplayer free on ps4 and I think it’s bullsish to even try and charge us to do stuff like that. Sadly my ps4 and tv got fried in a storm surge even though they were in a protector. Once I get the money together I got some friends on discord helping me when I can afford to build a pc to replace it!
This has gotten a tiny bit better. But what really cuts the cake is that if you BUY YOUR GAME, you can’t use the multiplayer functionality, which requires you to buy the subscription service… but if you’re playing FTP games like fortnite, fall guys, n’ such. It just plays as normal.
@@gxslic3the biggest FTP games (Fortnite, Warzone, etc.)generate millions and millions of dollars in micro transactions, of which Sony gets a percentage of. Essentially it financially benefits them to an extremely large degree.

Sony have confirmed that PlayStation is a profitable venture for them, the PlayStation 4 just by itself was a profitable venture. I used to think there was nothing wrong with paying a monthly subscription just to play online on Xbox 360 and One. Having done some growing up, I want to know what I was smoking in my youth to think it's acceptable to pay to play online on console. When I started PC gaming and found out I didn't have to pay to play online, I started questioning things.

Lol when I was young I knew it was bs because I had a psp, a 3ds and some friends that had a ps2/ps3. Learning that I had to pay to play online made me decide to not get a switch and actually go to pc gaming.
Nah, the 360 had a paid service that felt worth it because it was objectively much more stable and feature complete than PS3's online functions. I had both consoles and always paid for gold because it was just THAT much better, I only played PS3 exclusives online as they always had more lag, party problems, and matchmaking issues. Gold was an exceptional service at the time even compared to PC, and that's why it was worth buying.
I skyped the "pay to play online" subscription bs like Neo on that roof in Matrix, because when my PS3 hot the yellow light of dead (mother board burned) ps4 was about to hit the shelves, saw the price and said "nope" building a PC was cheaper, so i did, and from that point forward all i saw about consoles specially Sony was a down hill journey, mean while i was buying games like the GOTY edition of the Witcher with all DLCs on steam at 90% discount on summer sale and playing online with my friends and i never knew you had to pay extra on consoles until one day a friend didn't joined us cause he had to pay collage and didn't made the cut for his "plus" subs.

I also want to add on that I wasn’t the biggest fan of it when it was first on the PS4. I can remember me being knocked out satisfied with us change. The last place where you can get free online on the Wii U and a little bit of the start of the life of the switch
the worst part is ps+ was actually really good on ps3, tons of banger games for cheap. since ps+ has become a requirement for online the quality of games has gradually gone down since they know people will pay for it anyway. the "free" games have gone from the selling point to just being an excuse to make it look like it's a good value.
I’ve always had a problem with this whole system like I remember when I was younger I bought overwatch for the ps4 and after getting it ready I was slapped in the face by the game telling me I needed to pay for PlayStation Plus just to access the game itself.
PS4 was the last console I would ever own and support their subscription service. Realizing that most games I played were single player games really dawned on me why continue paying a subscription service that I don't use. I feel like I'm not missing out much with the current generation console. I'm thankful for their lack of supply (PS5) prevented me of buying their system. They did me solid favor. I may miss out on some exclusives but I'm content just being on PC.
99% of the games I play are single-player, except fighting games. Sony doesn't even have any active multiplayer games but they're still making us pay for 3rd party multiplayer games, it's fraud.
Since the start of ps plus for online being introduced, I've only ever bought the yearly subscription one single time. Most of the time I only buy the 1 month essential and then renew it if I know for a fact I'm going to be playing a multiplayer game otherwise I don't subscribe. Wtf is the point if I'm not gonna use it.
I always have a 2 year new Gen console rule, and it hasn't failed me since. I added 2 years to this generation because the Pandemic fucked up everything. Probs not getting. Anew console u til next year, and if they keep shit like this up, maybe even longer than that.
When it comes to subscription services, it might not be a bad idea if at the end of the month, you look at your bank statement and trim some fat if prices are going up on subscriptions you hardly use. One or two dollars isn’t that bad, but once more services start to increase, it adds up.
I remember buying a hard copy of Halo 2 for PC and was forced to sign up for an Xbox Live account on their “Games For Windows” service and be signed in just to play the offline campaign. Biggest pain in the ass I ever dealt with in playing games at the time.

I remember having a friend who was "weekend online players". They would get unused 48 hour codes that would be a lot of 360 games at the time (or even I/ some of their other friends would send him the codes when we got them). On Fridays after school they would use the code and play for the weekend. Those were some good times and a great way to avoid a $50 a year Xbox Live at the time.
The most irritating part about the cloud storage thing is that it barely works 💀 the only thing it does is waste my time having to resync my data when it inevitably messes up once a month

Thanks for confirming this Muta, I have a friend that tried to call me out and convince me to get it because of the *free games* and trials that I won't even play. And my response was 1 if I want a game I'll get it on sale, for example, I got 5 games on my wishlist for around $70 in total. I also refuse to pay extra to play glorified Demos. As for the "Classic PS3" games, for those who can, mod or soft mod your ps3 like I did, or 2 emulate them like I do with ps2 games, their catalogue don't even have games people would want to play or what would make them more money if remade properly like Midnight Club. I think I was told before by someone that they made so people have to pay to play online as extra security due to the data breach during the PS3 era but I straight up told them that's bull shit, you can still buy a ps3 make a new account and play the games online for Free. It's stupid because even if it's not on a p2p the game's aren't even on Sony's servers like Call of Duty and other games so you're being charged to access your own internet, probably why the PS5 doesn't let you access an internet browser unless you go an annoying route to access it.

The only benefit I see to having a subscription service is seeing if you like a few games or not before purchasing them. I have been a Xbox Game Pass subscriber for a few years and it's not that bad. When I buy a new game and beat it and put it on the shelf, I never touch it again for several years so getting Game Pass made more sense. You also get access to DLCs that would have cost way more than the subscription. One thing that does suck is you can't play Gane Pass games without internet.
You also forgot to mention all those “free” monthly games you get are taken away the second you stop paying the subscription. Majority of the games on my Xbox were from this free game you get every month, when I finally got my pc In 2018 I stopped paying, but at some point I wanted to play a specific game(I think it was like gears of war 2 or something) I couldn’t bc since I had stopped paying for gold they locked all those games I claimed. I had like 4 years worth of games I claimed on my Xbox one so basically all my games were from these free games (it was like over 100 games) and some of my favorite games came from theses free monthly games, as you can imagine this pissed me off so much I’ve been saying how much of a scam those ps plus and Xbox gold subs are a shame. I’m already paying for my internet and on top of that another subscription to play online. If you’re an avid gamer…just invest in a pc asap, it took me while to get one, but you’ll never look back.
Xbox 360 games aren't locked to the subscription. If it was Gears of War 2 you should be able to play it no matter what. Only Xbox One games were locked and all PS Plus games are locked.
Most of those games should be fully yours now, all 360 games that were part of GfG were given to everyone who had claimed them when they moved to stop adding new ones.
I've been on PlayStation's side ever since I started playing video games at the age of 5, and now I switched over to PC. This is hands down the best decision I have ever made. Tones of flexibility and freedom in gaming, however it will still be nice to have the extra cash to actually play video games on all sorts of platforms especially for the exclusive titles.

The bottom is falling out with all those subscription services, from video games to streaming. These are non-essential products in a world where people are being squeezed financially by 'greedflation'. Many are looking at expenses and shit like this is going to cause alot of people to say 'no mas'. I haven't paid for ps plus or xbox live since like 2015 when I got a gaming PC. It seems completely assinine in hindsight paying for online multiplayer access, and I don't miss it a single bit.
I’ve been on PlayStation since PS3 and just got a series X (the first Xbox I've ever owned) recently. After this, I'm legitimately debating on getting rid of them, cutting my losses, and getting a PC because this is unacceptable. I am one more subscription price hike away from pulling the trigger, dropping nearly 20 years of being a console gamer, and joining the PC club.
I mean you still have to pay for xbox ultimate on pc at same price unless u want to pirate virus loaded games with campaign only. Well steam give better deals on old games compared to microsoft store ( by chance the game is not on gamepass )
There is a silver lining to all this. During the PS4 gen i spent a ton of money. This generation with everything being more expensive, it will allow me to really think before i purchase a game. I was burned many times in the last generation so in a way i am happy about all this. Lower prices led to me becoming a total shut in no life gamer. 😂 Now i can enjoy a more refined collection of games while saving money and not regretting what i buy as much. Win win for me.
Not only can you play an array of games that are cross platform online for free on steam, you can literally use ANY of the controllers from ALL of the major consoles on Steam with no problems 😂😂
while I agree that playstation and xbox controllers run fine on PC entirely, switch pro controllers love to button-spam on pretty much any non-steam game if you're wired via USB. (I only mention it as my DS4 controller's joystick recently took a crap, and now stuff like Genshin or itch games are MnK only since pro controllers are notorious for being kinda garbage outside of steam games.) but that's the only irk I think I've came across on PC, everything else is literally just better. no fees whatsoever is $60+ saved a year ez
Yeah I still go on the store every now and then and the discounts are fine enough without a subscription. I've learned just to research and buy the games I want instead of relying on what Playstation wants to give me.

It made some sense for a subscription with the original Xbox where Microsoft had to send in teams to help a lot of developers get games online and integrated with the Xbox Live ecosystem. It was an entirely new thing for devs to try and deal with to have internet connectivity for every game on the platform all integrated into one service, and Microsoft also had to develop the chat and friend system infrastructure wholesale for this new kind of setup. The Dreamcast and PC up until that point were basically the wild west where each game just did it's own thing and there was no unifying infrastructure. But the fact that they kept it for all future consoles once integrating into a unified platform became the standard is extremely frustrating, and then Nintendo and Sony jumped on the bandwagon too because they saw they could just get free money out of it.
They make it so hard to refund any game you accidentally purchase or are unhappy with. Even if you open the game to REALIZE you bought the wrong one then you’re ineligible to get a refund. And on top of that to takes forever to actually get the refund. You have to go out of your way to talk to an agent who, most likely, isn’t gonna get in contact with you for days since they’re queue is so damn long.
I got out for exactly this reason. It felt like Sony just kept inventing more ways for me to pay them for having a monopoly over me, and given the terrible service, such as return policies on games on the PS Store. Not long after buying my first proper PC, I abandoned Playstation as a whole, long before the PS 5 was even announced. The value provided by a Playstation simply didn't even compare to having a decent PC anymore.
Man it's the very reason why I'm so tempted to build a PC as my primary gaming rig, this PlaystationPlus subscription isn't really worth it at least for me, I do want to be able to play with my friends online every now and then, the playstation games that comes with the subscriptions are really just secondary thing for me they're nice, but I'm not really after them.. the overall subscription is quite steep for more casual gamers like me.
I dont see the point of doing this, they are making enough money as it is unless they are trying to piss off and ripped off the people because of this.

Yup, they did. The problem is that they know that they cannot top this year; they hit a plateau. Wall Street does not tolerate stagnation. Even doing as well as your best year ever is considered a failure by the wall street vultures. Which is insane. So instead of offering a better, or more attractive product, the only way to show growth to greedy wall street and the investors is to screw everyone by charging more money for no reason. And since they have such a large userbase, and so big of a market share, they know that even if a significant amount of users cancel their service, they will still make a ton more $$ with the price increase. It is such a high price increase that the extra profits will make up for whatever losses they have due to cancellations. Pleeeeenty of corporations have done the same using COVID/war and inflation as excuses bc they know that most countries (especially USA) have little to no laws to protect consumers from their greed. What's hilarious to me about both PS and Xbox is how they allow you to play free-to-play games online for free. This means that you don't have to pay them to play games you don't pay for. But, you DO have to pay them a sub fee to play games you DID pay for. It's crazy.

I totally agree, I absolutely hate how they make you subscribe to a service to use basic features like multiplayer after already purchasing the game. Multiplayer isn't just some add-on, it's a basic feature that you should be able to use without having to pay anything extra in games that have it.

I hate when people like you whine about things being worse. Games are not more expensive. Maybe compared to like 3 years ago, but PS1 and even PS2 games (for example), costs more than a modern 70 dollar game. That's a fact, even Muta admitted that. It's like when your grandparents would talk about burgers being a nickle but don't acknowledge how little money you got from a job-- it's all relative. I'm not defending games increasing in prices as much as I am just saying that, no, games were not cheaper "back in the day"; that's a lie.
The whole "less games and enjoyment thing" I assume is coming from how the PS5 doesn't have the biggest library (though most consoles have always had this issue, not that you would know "contrary in the past"... if you say so), because modern gaming is better than it's always been. To ignore all of the amazing games in the past couple years is so disingenuous you either don't actually play games or just love to revel in pessimism-- which is why I'm assuming that you are only talking about the PS5, because otherwise wouldn't even make sense. Though I see the annoying, "all modern thing bad, all old thing good", enough to where I wouldn't be surprised sadly. Baldur's Gate 3, Armored Core 6, FF 16, SF6, Zelda TotK comes out, "siGh, mODerN GAmeS SuRe sUcK, HuH?". Remember, 60 Dollar games from 20+ years ago are somehow cheaper than 60 dollar games today... I remember buying GTA 2 for the playstation as a kid in a game store and the guy gave me a free demo disc with it. They used to hand those bad boys out like candy on Halloween. The whole point of a demo is to give people a free sample so they can decide if they actually want to spend money on the game or not. The idea of paying to get access to demos is ludicrous.

The actual pricing for this gets more insane here in Australia when the Premium tier will cost nearly $200. That's about as much buying two AAA games. No subscription service should ever cost that much unless you really like getting parted with your money.

Free online was the reason why I chose PS3 instead of XBOX 360 back in the day. Being pc gamer the idea of paying for basic online gaming was wild to me.

@@FlamespeedyAMV I'm from Russia and the cost of subscription was pretty hefty considering currency exchange. I barely bought any games for PS3 even, almost my entire library was from that free games pack after infamous Sony hack. The cost of single PS3 game was like 20% of your monthly wage.
@@FlamespeedyAMV When I got my 360 I fully intended to play both on PS3 and 360, but my PS3 online connection was so much worse than on 360. I had shit internet and it wasn't good every day but being able to go a day or two without lagging out of a multiplayer session felt great and I just stopped playing on PS3 without even realising it.
Also party chat. I genuinely believe that whoever it was at Sony that decided to limit private voice chats to being off-game only was hit in the head at some point before they brought the idea to their higher ups and never recovered.

The simple solution to this is for people to just not buy PS+ yet no one will actually do that. The reason companies always screw over consumers is because people allow anti consumer practices to happen. No one can coordinate other people and agree to stand against blatant greed.

I stopped supporting PS+ since August 2016 because i am against the online multiplayer paywall bullcrap and i won't ever again renew my PS+ subscription as long as that stupid paywall exist on Playstation's ecosystem. It sucks that some people defend that anti-consumer business practice. If Sony doesn't remove the online multiplayer paywall from the Playstation ecosystem by the time the PS6 becomes a thing' i will not support the PS6 at all. I wish big content creators from the gaming community like him started a movement to get people to boycott PS+.

That’s not how it works in reality. Catering to the rich market has a greater profit incentive. Hence why cars come out with more luxury feature but more expensive when they can make a basic car for cheap.
I once suggested they make online multiplayer paid with a *_one-time payment_* as opposed to making it a monthly/yearly subscription. I still stand by that suggestion.

I grew up playing PlayStation consoles but had to switch to PC because the yearly subscription service was too much for too little. I repurchased some games on Steam and I was still able to connect and play with a controller on games such as fighting games. Totally worth it. I just wish all games had cross progression and not just a few.

PC is way better it all went down hill after ps3 but i've had both for years and i've noticed in all the games i played online on pc and console console always had a superior number of players vs the same game on PC
@damienwalker4399 I'd assume that's probably due to consoles generally being considered easier to get into. You don't really have to do much set up, and building a decent gaming rig can put a dent in the piggy bank. Cross-progression should always be a priority when these "AAA" companies launch any multiplayer game, but it definitely isn't.

Yup I am the same way. I'm sure there are some ps plus games that make it worth it.. The one year I got ps plus at an extremely low christmas sale. Like I believe it was near 20 bucks for a year... I couldnt pass that offer up. Ended up getting all the Uncharted games, the Ezio trilogy and some other things that made it well worth it. Granted I can no longer access them because thats how ps plus works, but I played all of them to completion. Since they were games I hadn't played before (other than AC 2), I had a lot of fun. But it still feels like crap to pay for a service solely for the internet (which is probably the main reason I'd get it). Its a lot of money to throw away when I can get multiple free games from Epic Store on PC plus Steam always has a ton of deals all year round. The internet access should be a given for all consoles. Specifically the online multiplayer. We give them so much money in other ways they really have no good excuse other than price gouging.

I’m so glad someone as big as you is talking about this, I’ve had PlayStation for 4 years and I stopped paying for its services 2 years ago, by playing games like console rust, and Fortnite, and even occasionally r6s I was able to play multiplayer free on ps4 and I think it’s bullsish to even try and charge us to do stuff like that. Sadly my ps4 and tv got fried in a storm surge even though they were in a protector. Once I get the money together I got some friends on discord helping me when I can afford to build a pc to replace it!

Nah, the 360 had a paid service that felt worth it because it was objectively much more stable and feature complete than PS3's online functions. I had both consoles and always paid for gold because it was just THAT much better, I only played PS3 exclusives online as they always had more lag, party problems, and matchmaking issues. Gold was an exceptional service at the time even compared to PC, and that's why it was worth buying.

I skyped the "pay to play online" subscription bs like Neo on that roof in Matrix, because when my PS3 hot the yellow light of dead (mother board burned) ps4 was about to hit the shelves, saw the price and said "nope" building a PC was cheaper, so i did, and from that point forward all i saw about consoles specially Sony was a down hill journey, mean while i was buying games like the GOTY edition of the Witcher with all DLCs on steam at 90% discount on summer sale and playing online with my friends and i never knew you had to pay extra on consoles until one day a friend didn't joined us cause he had to pay collage and didn't made the cut for his "plus" subs.

the worst part is ps+ was actually really good on ps3, tons of banger games for cheap. since ps+ has become a requirement for online the quality of games has gradually gone down since they know people will pay for it anyway. the "free" games have gone from the selling point to just being an excuse to make it look like it's a good value.

I’ve always had a problem with this whole system like I remember when I was younger I bought overwatch for the ps4 and after getting it ready I was slapped in the face by the game telling me I needed to pay for PlayStation Plus just to access the game itself.
PS4 was the last console I would ever own and support their subscription service. Realizing that most games I played were single player games really dawned on me why continue paying a subscription service that I don't use. I feel like I'm not missing out much with the current generation console. I'm thankful for their lack of supply (PS5) prevented me of buying their system. They did me solid favor. I may miss out on some exclusives but I'm content just being on PC.
You can just emulate or buy a steamdeck to play those exclusives as well

99% of the games I play are single-player, except fighting games. Sony doesn't even have any active multiplayer games but they're still making us pay for 3rd party multiplayer games, it's fraud.
Since the start of ps plus for online being introduced, I've only ever bought the yearly subscription one single time. Most of the time I only buy the 1 month essential and then renew it if I know for a fact I'm going to be playing a multiplayer game otherwise I don't subscribe. Wtf is the point if I'm not gonna use it.

When it comes to subscription services, it might not be a bad idea if at the end of the month, you look at your bank statement and trim some fat if prices are going up on subscriptions you hardly use. One or two dollars isn’t that bad, but once more services start to increase, it adds up.
I remember buying a hard copy of Halo 2 for PC and was forced to sign up for an Xbox Live account on their “Games For Windows” service and be signed in just to play the offline campaign. Biggest pain in the ass I ever dealt with in playing games at the time.

They would get unused 48 hour codes that would be a lot of 360 games at the time (or even I/ some of their other friends would send him the codes when we got them). On Fridays after school they would use the code and play for the weekend. Those were some good times and a great way to avoid a $50 a year Xbox Live at the time.

Thanks for confirming this Muta, I have a friend that tried to call me out and convince me to get it because of the *free games* and trials that I won't even play. And my response was 1 if I want a game I'll get it on sale, for example, I got 5 games on my wishlist for around $70 in total. I also refuse to pay extra to play glorified Demos.
As for the "Classic PS3" games, for those who can, mod or soft mod your ps3 like I did, or 2 emulate them like I do with ps2 games, their catalogue don't even have games people would want to play or what would make them more money if remade properly like Midnight Club.
I think I was told before by someone that they made so people have to pay to play online as extra security due to the data breach during the PS3 era but I straight up told them that's bull shit, you can still buy a ps3 make a new account and play the games online for Free. It's stupid because even if it's not on a p2p the game's aren't even on Sony's servers like Call of Duty and other games so you're being charged to access your own internet, probably why the PS5 doesn't let you access an internet browser unless you go an annoying route to access it.

The only benefit I see to having a subscription service is seeing if you like a few games or not before purchasing them. I have been a Xbox Game Pass subscriber for a few years and it's not that bad. When I buy a new game and beat it and put it on the shelf, I never touch it again for several years so getting Game Pass made more sense. You also get access to DLCs that would have cost way more than the subscription. One thing that does suck is you can't play Gane Pass games without internet.
You also forgot to mention all those “free” monthly games you get are taken away the second you stop paying the subscription. Majority of the games on my Xbox were from this free game you get every month, when I finally got my pc In 2018 I stopped paying, but at some point I wanted to play a specific game(I think it was like gears of war 2 or something) I couldn’t bc since I had stopped paying for gold they locked all those games I claimed. I had like 4 years worth of games I claimed on my Xbox one so basically all my games were from these free games (it was like over 100 games) and some of my favorite games came from theses free monthly games, as you can imagine this pissed me off so much I’ve been saying how much of a scam those ps plus and Xbox gold subs are a shame. I’m already paying for my internet and on top of that another subscription to play online. If you’re an avid gamer…just invest in a pc asap, it took me while to get one, but you’ll never look back.
Xbox 360 games aren't locked to the subscription. If it was Gears of War 2 you should be able to play it no matter what. Only Xbox One games were locked and all PS Plus games are locked.
Most of those games should be fully yours now, all 360 games that were part of GfG were given to everyone who had claimed them when they moved to stop adding new ones.

I've been on PlayStation's side ever since I started playing video games at the age of 5, and now I switched over to PC. This is hands down the best decision I have ever made. Tones of flexibility and freedom in gaming, however it will still be nice to have the extra cash to actually play video games on all sorts of platforms especially for the exclusive titles.

The bottom is falling out with all those subscription services, from video games to streaming. These are non-essential products in a world where people are being squeezed financially by 'greedflation'. Many are looking at expenses and shit like this is going to cause alot of people to say 'no mas'. I haven't paid for ps plus or xbox live since like 2015 when I got a gaming PC. It seems completely assinine in hindsight paying for online multiplayer access, and I don't miss it a single bit.

I’ve been on PlayStation since PS3 and just got a series X (the first Xbox I've ever owned) recently. After this, I'm legitimately debating on getting rid of them, cutting my losses, and getting a PC because this is unacceptable. I am one more subscription price hike away from pulling the trigger, dropping nearly 20 years of being a console gamer, and joining the PC club.
I mean you still have to pay for xbox ultimate on pc at same price unless u want to pirate virus loaded games with campaign only. Well steam give better deals on old games compared to microsoft store ( by chance the game is not on gamepass )
There is a silver lining to all this. During the PS4 gen i spent a ton of money. This generation with everything being more expensive, it will allow me to really think before i purchase a game. I was burned many times in the last generation so in a way i am happy about all this. Lower prices led to me becoming a total shut in no life gamer. 😂 Now i can enjoy a more refined collection of games while saving money and not regretting what i buy as much. Win win for me.

Not only can you play an array of games that are cross platform online for free on steam, you can literally use ANY of the controllers from ALL of the major consoles on Steam with no problems 😂😂
while I agree that playstation and xbox controllers run fine on PC entirely, switch pro controllers love to button-spam on pretty much any non-steam game if you're wired via USB. (I only mention it as my DS4 controller's joystick recently took a crap, and now stuff like Genshin or itch games are MnK only since pro controllers are notorious for being kinda garbage outside of steam games.)

You should be protesting the Pay to play online model as well

It made some sense for a subscription with the original Xbox where Microsoft had to send in teams to help a lot of developers get games online and integrated with the Xbox Live ecosystem. It was an entirely new thing for devs to try and deal with to have internet connectivity for every game on the platform all integrated into one service, and Microsoft also had to develop the chat and friend system infrastructure wholesale for this new kind of setup. The Dreamcast and PC up until that point were basically the wild west where each game just did it's own thing and there was no unifying infrastructure.
But the fact that they kept it for all future consoles once integrating into a unified platform became the standard is extremely frustrating, and then Nintendo and Sony jumped on the bandwagon too because they saw they could just get free money out of it.
Xbox didn't do anything. Stop defending them like a fanboy. There is NO reason to pay for multiplayer.

They make it so hard to refund any game you accidentally purchase or are unhappy with. Even if you open the game to REALIZE you bought the wrong one then you’re ineligible to get a refund. And on top of that to takes forever to actually get the refund. You have to go out of your way to talk to an agent who, most likely, isn’t gonna get in contact with you for days since they’re queue is so damn long.
It is completely insane that you have to pay monthly to use multiplayer
Feels a lot like they're banking on Microsoft's losses to push an envelope to treat their own fans worse.

I got out for exactly this reason. It felt like Sony just kept inventing more ways for me to pay them for having a monopoly over me, and given the terrible service, such as return policies on games on the PS Store. Not long after buying my first proper PC, I abandoned Playstation as a whole, long before the PS 5 was even announced. The value provided by a Playstation simply didn't even compare to having a decent PC anymore.
They also turn on psn auto-renewal whenever you purchase anything in the store even the free stuff
Man it's the very reason why I'm so tempted to build a PC as my primary gaming rig, this PlaystationPlus subscription isn't really worth it at least for me, I do want to be able to play with my friends online every now and then, the playstation games that comes with the subscriptions are really just secondary thing for me they're nice, but I'm not really after them.. the overall subscription is quite steep for more casual gamers like me.

Nah sony is pretty poor compared to its competitor microsoft thats why you dont see big games on ps plus extra like on game pass

I completely agree with Mutah, paying to play online is just stupid and more stupid than that is that with free-to-play games you don't have to pay for online. I have GP shared with a freind (Xbox/PC) but PSplus in my ps5 forget it, the catalog is very thin...

Yup, they did. The problem is that they know that they cannot top this year; they hit a plateau. Wall Street does not tolerate stagnation. Even doing as well as your best year ever is considered a failure by the wall street vultures. Which is insane. So instead of offering a better, or more attractive product, the only way to show growth to greedy wall street and the investors is to screw everyone by charging more money for no reason. And since they have such a large userbase, and so big of a market share, they know that even if a significant amount of users cancel their service, they will still make a ton more $$ with the price increase. It is such a high price increase that the extra profits will make up for whatever losses they have due to cancellations. Pleeeeenty of corporations have done the same using COVID/war and inflation as excuses bc they know that most countries (especially USA) have little to no laws to protect consumers from their greed. Welcome to the 2020's
