  • Princess Dagmar of Denmark was the daughter of King Christian IX of Denmark and his wife Princess Louise of Hesse-Kassel. Dagmar grew up inside the Yellow Mansion in Copenhagen for the first 6 years of her life, little did she know that she would one day live in the most mighty palaces, wear the most precious gowns and own tons of jewelry. All of this because she married the heir to the Russian throne, the future Tsar Alexander III. Dagmar therefore became Empress consort of Russia and also was the mother to the last Tsar of Russia: Nicholas II. During her life, which spanned 80 years Dagmar witnessed the downfall of the once so powerful Russian Empire, she had to endure many losses and lastly died alone in Copenhagen, the city, in which our story starts.
