"Visions in Blue" is Ultravox's third single from the Quartet album, recorded in Air Studios, London and released on Chrysalis Records on 11 March 1983. The single peaked at №15 in the UK charts on 26 March. A video was produced, but was banned by the BBC and MTV due to brief nudity; an edited version was later provided for broadcast on Top of the Pops.
The track also appears in live form on the CD version of Ultravox's 1983 in-concert album, Monument. The 12" version of "Visions in Blue" also contains an edited version of the same Monument performance of "Reap the Wild Wind".
Visions In Blue
Face in the window in the night
Caught for a second by the light
Ashes of memories still aglow (Only for you)
Portraits and pictures you once saw
Visions in blue
Read while the letters still remain
Sip from the wine of youth again
Oaths made in silence still return (Only for you)
Cast like a shroud your clutching arm
Visions in blue
Catch aimless smiles from passers-by
Blistered and broken in reply
Breath seems to mist the hazy view (Only for you)
Tears coat your lifeless eyes with dew
Visions in blue
Visions in blue
Ashes of memories still aglow (Repeat 3 times)
Portraits and pictures you once saw
Face in the window in the night
Caught for a second by the light
Ashes of memories still aglow (Only for you)
Portraits and pictures you once saw
Visions in blue
this is underrated, i dont think it got the publicity it should of had, bloody mind blowing epic piece of music!
Completely agree with you.
I could listen to Midge and Ultravox till the end of time. Always my favourite. I'm 63..
I am 53!
i am Groot
One of the best pure vocal talents of the 20th Century
This is a symbol of fabulous UK way of life in the 80's.
I do think that this is an absolutely heart-achingly beautiful song, and quite possibly Ultravox' best. Quite the vocal range that Midge had.
Completely agree with you.
This is one Record that IS underrated. So many songs get called underrated but are acknowledged classics by loads of critics but this is a real mAsterpiece.
Yes! It’s true!!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
One of the best songs EVER made!!
Очень талантливая группа. И незаслуженно забытая.
Это песня с альбома "Quartet" 1982 года. Весь альбом, это блок бастер.
Альбомы 1981 и 1984 годов, тоже отличные.
Группа имела уникальное звучание.
These guys are still great musicians
I say that because I saw them in 2012 in Milan and even after all those years of not being together it was like they never stopped. I really wish they, would continue even just the odd album when they found inspiration because together they are brilliant, no pun intended
I have loved Ultravox since for ever and ever! This is probably their best song of all time in my opinion ❤❤❤
I love it so much reminded me when I was in the fourth year secondary school. I had a Italian girl friend and bought her the single!! We still talk now
One of the best of theire many masterpieces. The instrumental part in the middle flashed me from the first second i've ever heard this song. Oooh i remember ...
Beatiful voice, amazing song!
What a masterpiece here from Ultravox. 94.000 views? Where's the world going...
Love from France.
Giorgio Versace totally agree like a classical masterpiece 11/10
The viewership has approximately quadrupled over the course of four years, so it has that going for it.
I run out of adjectives to describe how this song makes me feel. It enters my ears and goes directly to my heart... to my soul.
From the beginning to the end, but at 1:56 it is incredible and at 2:07 it is already tremendous with the power of the piano... I am an ULTRA fan of E.L.O, The Alan Parsons Project and Supertamp (especially Roger Hodgson) but "Visions in Blue" is in the TOP of my songs.
Greetings from Catalonia
I think this is a masterpiece. Pure genius. These guys were incredible musicians.
We have Billy Currie to thank for that unmistakeable sound. So involved in that whole scene. Glad it's been rediscovered by new ears❤
@@CutieJones1972 Some older ears are still listening too😃.
@@susanleitch8649 God bless us oldies. We know how to appreciate this music. Ultravox were an important part of my youth. It still hurts me that Vienna never made the top spot, held off by Joe Dolce. What did he ever do after that? Makes me mad that the record buying public chose that one hit wonder when presented with the majesty of Vienna. We"d all tune in TOTP hoping and praying that Vienna would be No 1 but it stalled at 2. Sadly.
Scotland and Britain's finest from the 80's
AsISeeIT now you’ve got Sturgeon, how things have got shit now lol
This is so over the top. Love all bits of this song.
Back then, I heard "One Small Day", then "Reap The Wild Wind" and was Amazed... Then I heard This, And was Totally in AWE... It would take too long to list what and why I love this Creation, this work of Genius , It is so Deep (Musically and Lyrically), Romantic and Powerful ... I can't sing, but to this day at practices and sound checks I TRY to sing this... and it always leaves me relaxed and feeling at peace. Thank You Ultravox
What happen to good music like this. The day when people was bands and work together to make great sounds like this. When people use to get synthesisers and get as much sounds out of them as they could and make a masterpiece like this song. We live in 2017 and New synths don’t match up to the old ones? Something so wrong here. Wish bands would be bands and make masterpieces like this. So much soul in this song. Wish I could go back to this time again. Music is rubbish today and all sounds The same and like it’s made in a few mins. I’m sure New synths could make masterpieces again in the right hands with people who have got an imagination and soul. Great record and thanks for sharing this 80s masterpiece.
Michael Mitchell I will bring back well thought out music when I get in a band..hope to now.. because I have some meaningful and unique compositions just from this month I've waken up 5 times from dreams of powerful musical songs that my mind somehow creates.. I can't sit back and be a lazy composer like these people of now. I guess from what I have it's telling me to use it..
Well🤔🤔🤔 there's always Justin Bieber... Ariana Grande....Niki Minaj.... Lady Gagme🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮😁
This song...wow...goosebumps. Such a feeling in it.
Yes!!!! Completely agree with you!!!!!!!!!!

Visions In Blue - одна из самых лучших песен в дискографии Ultravox!
People in those times just didnt understand this music. You can see by those people in this video, who are standing and just dont know what is it about.... It was about timeless music and lyrics, 40 years in front their time !!!
it's just music from heaven sent...every time I listen to it I feel so much love and understanding....
some of the most emotional provoking music ever made the vox beat most of the 80's pop for creativity and innovation
paul gibson fff
This song , hymn. One small day, lament. Incredibly beautiful.
Kocham ten utwór ,mam do niego nie ukrywaną słabość.
Классная вещь. Невозможно наслушаться. Красивейшая аранжировка.
This is the first Ultravox song I EVER heard - but, of course, I didn't remember that until I just listened to it again. I was 14, on vacation on the island of Ibiza with a good friend, and he and I had gone to a bar one night and they played this song there. I went to the DJ and asked about it, and she just said that it was "Ultravox" without saying what the title was. So of course when that vacation ended I went in search of that band, and found their tapes (back then, I thought I was pretty high-tech for even having a Walkman tape player!) at one of the record stores near where I lived. Since then, they've been close to, if not the actual, top of the bands I listen to. Fun!
I am so deeply in good feelings...even the sad ones..when I hear that incredible peace of love.
Just another one of the millions of reasons they ARE the greatest band, even 30+ years later!!!!
This track was too ahead of its time for the uk market really like a big chart hit...euro techno pop . Masterpiece
These guys were something else...
This IS there best song ever, Superb absolutely Superb

Simply wonderful
So many memories of a more simple time. Can't count how many times I fell asleep listening to " Quartet ".
Masterpiece 80s
one word, CLASSIC
the good old days, when we were all teens
Fantastic song.
Could sit here listening to this, day in, day out
Class, class!! This is extraordinary.
Quartet..still a great album to listen to after all these years 1982!!
.
My favourite band from the ‘electronic’ era of music Midge Ure was such a great lyricist and musician....
Co tu komentować...? To jest po prostu piękny utwór - słuchawki na uszy i niech dalej chwila trwa!
Such good memories!
For ever vision in blues, Mitch...

What wonderfully pompous self important lyrics exuding an air of New Romanticism that fits the grandeur of the music so well
Excelente cancion .. de las mejores de ultravox ...
Помню 1982 году я принёс домой запись этого альбома на бабине 270м. Это одна из моих любимых вещей этой группы.
Awesomeness 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙....today's music has zero substance....sorry kiddies old stuff best😉😘
I always get shivers when I hear it
Emotionally-charged!
Ultravox were absolutely musical geniuses..this is another one of their masterpiece..Midge Ure i salute you sir..oh by the way that goes for many other great groups from 60s to late 90s..after that music rapidly went downhill to the present day which is total garbage..
very good best song
Sensuous and sad. Spellbinding.
Brilliant! Midge Ure looks lika an english Spitfire pilot :)
Johnny Lundin lol yeah .
Johnny Lundin I'm going to think about spitfire's on all his music videos now!! Lol 😂
Ultravox has its unique recognizable sound. I do not know to whom compare it.
I am afraid there is no one..:) so thanks god at least for me, that my soul could listen to it for the first time when I was a small girl..in socialism..or how they call it..so gratefull I am..till now-
Dominika Vackova I am very pleased from everyone from my country, who is catched by Ultravox. Unfortunately I met with their music in my 17, whe they were disbanded 5 years already. And yes ... they are touching deeply the soul of those who are sensitive enough...
The keyboards are similar to Japan (the band with David Sylvian as lead singer), although the vocals are very different.
had to but this on 12inch vinyl when i was 12. so brilliant and original
From a great album
Superb tune ... 👌👌
progression to eternity
Just brilliant!
absolutely best song lokali synth
Most beautiful electronic song by magnificent band
1.8k enthusiastic and happy persons, 50 sad souls
Love the song and the group excellent x
I've never heard a verse more powerful.
Saw these guys twice back in the early 80s brilliant set visuals and singing , where have those 40 yes gone shit I'm old
haunting sound. Gorgeous song
What a cool Sound! Same Special beautiful Song by a Special band😊😊so magic🎉🎉❤❤❤
My favourite version of VIB is the live recording on the Monument LP from 1982/83..
I shed tears. It's a professional tear jerking masterpiece! Can be used for a Nuclear Holocaust Footage Music!
Yes….🥺😢 it’s true….
Korgs and Rolands and Moogs, oh my!
And Waldorfs!
A piece of musical genius....I rest my case
Love the synth heavy 80s!!!!
Wahnsinn! This Song is my Generation.
Difficult choice,I like them all so I'd be hard pressed to choose just one as a favourite
Always loved the lyric in this, conjures up the same emotions as Japan's awesome 'Ghosts'. Contrary to a good few posts here, I didn't get much from the 1980s music-wise after about '82, spending a lot of time trawling 60s stuff. There were a few great (non-mainstream)bands,but the charts real dross! Each to his or her own, but anyway this is a real gem..
The last dramatic gasp of new romanticism....
In the 80s ULTRAVOX Was considered such an immense force like fgth and duran were. Massive THE ULTRA VOX !!!!
stunning piece of music
very nice song
Dont know how i got there but this cheers me up as if iwas 14 :)
This is why I grew upin the 80's
I heard this song over and over in front to uno city over "die alte donau" in vienna and left my time time passed trough... :-)
Always a fan of this lineup and the original. For the record I never owned a pirate shirt.
Postmodern Classicism with a nod to Kraftwerk definitely their best Midge work!
It’s a stunning piece of music. End of.
How well the front panels of the PPG synths match the song title 🤩
Ultravox rules! :-)
