I have struggled all my life with feeling full. Mostly cause I am Adhd and eating is a huge dopamine boost, something my body craves. Also, I grew up in a clean plate and you eat what is served environment. But I understand why, as a family we put a lot of time and effort into filling the pantry. We grew, raised, foraged, and hunted 90 - 95% of our food. Shoot, we even collected and boiled our own maple syrup. So, you ate every drop.
I think that is why I developed the gambit if eating what I don't like the most first to what I really love last. So even though I am full bytime I get the best part of the meal, I still eat cause I have been looking forward to it.
I started eating my favorite bites first now, and not shame myself for not finishing.
I am still working on getting less to start with so I waste less. But I am finding I am eating less and being satisfied longer.
With one exception, M&Ms. I love when the chocolate is melted and it squished when you bite on them. So much, that I can't stop eating them even when they stopped tasting good. Especially, when I chase the perfect bite of the shell bit in two pieces down the middle.
