    As an avid printer for 2 years now i fully recommend it, if you dont count the printer price you can play warhammer on a 70-90% discount depending on the army
    Also i can recommend Sunlu abs like resin especially if you play an army with more fragile models like necrons or daemons its way more sturdy than the standard stuff (and actually cheaper then the anycubic resin i started on)

    Hello ! I used to only print with water washable when I started ! But since then I decided to try other type of resin, and to be honest it’s not really more complicated to use. Try the Tenacious resin, it’s an amazingly solid one. What I do is use it only for model that look like they break as soon as I touch them, and I use cheaper but still amazing resin for sturdier models ! I just printed an entire Chaos SM combat patrol for 20 bucks…

    water washable is incredibly brittle. After years I made the switch to ABS-like now that IPA is down in price again. I would suggest for prints with fiddly bits, just undercure them in the cleanup step but don't waste any time getting them primed. Cure as much as you can until the part starts to give resistance to moving. Once they're sealed in a layer of primer you're not really touching the resin at that point. Just don't eat the things and use care before they're primed.

  • @philistineau
    @philistineau 19 дней назад +2

    The answer if they break is to spend $6 on resin instead of $3! People mix tough or ABS like resin in. Compared to GW pricing, it wouldn’t be that expensive to use full bottles of the best resin!

      You can get some very durable results from using the basic ABS-Like resin mixed with about 15% of the expensive Sirayatech Tenacious resin. It averages out to about $30/kg for the mixed stuff and it works great.

    Honestly with the ongoing GW stock issues, 3d printing is sometimes the only way to get an army you want! Old world and HH are perfect examples. Highland miniatures must be making a killing with their well-made lines. Next month is goblin month for them and I'm very interested!

    Once I have space its one of the first things I want to invest in, specifically for bits. One of the hardest things about kitbashing and converting is finding the right bits (and at a decent prize). Sometimes it just feels bad to cut off part of a bit that is out of print, hard to find, or expensive (or all of the above!) and being able to print (and design) my own would probably make hobbying so much better.
    Though your comments about gribbly bits are good to know, because the last thing I want is to have to ruin my paintjobs because I keep having to reassemble the minis.

    Congratulations on the subscriber milestone.
    As someone who doesn't play games competitively neither WYSIWYG nor official models are ever really a consideration for me, and I find assembly of modern GW kits to be obnoxious to the point of off-putting due to unnecessarily cut up parts designed to counter recasters. I've got piles of kits that I just don't have the willpower to endure assembling just to make a monopose model that will be repeated 4+ times in an army. 3d prints frequently come with no or minimal assembly making a much more enjoyable experience for me. in short GW are driving me away from their models (which are no better sculpts than many 3d prints) to the 3D printing market with their pricing and kit design.

    • @SimplyWarhammer
      @SimplyWarhammer  5 месяцев назад +1

    Interestingly enough for me. I still haven't covered my costs in savings by 3D printing before you would consider any labor time or working with hazard chemicals. Granted if you have free time in life in abundance you certainly don't have to put labor into the equation. Most of my FW prints were FW models that got culled in 10th but there are still a few things that I have that are playable. The best use is for models that are excessive on a per unit basis AdMech & guard walkers. Beasts of Nurgle & this type. I find I haven't cut my spending on Warhammer as much as I hoped from 3D printing. I also find 3D prints break easier but once you can print them replacement cost isn't bad but they are far less durable in general. Maybe there are resins that would fix that, I haven't gone that far down the path of resolution of easily broken 3D printed models. GW grey plastic really does hold up well to drops and accidents compared to other mediums. The working with hazardous chemicals that you don't want to breathe or touch is no small element. I have a local gamer who had to give up 3D printing to developing or having severe reaction to being around resin. 99% isopropyl is also a substance to be considered about storing from flammability. It does make a home owner a bit of a chemist as far as increased risks and potential issues. My conclusion is a cheap decent quality 3D printer will probably pay out especially if you are not short on the time involved in printing. which the time isn't really a big factor when things are printing correctly. I went for a more expensive larger higher quality printer because at the end of the day I wanted to try it out and not be short on the quality level I want. I learned after the fact a cheaper 4K would probably have done fine for most things I ended up printing.

    • @SimplyWarhammer
      @SimplyWarhammer  5 месяцев назад

      I haven't even thought about recouping the cost 🙈 haha having too much fun... but I need to investigate better resins, as you say GW plastic survives bad handling.
      I chose water washable resin which is a bit better but you do become a chemist and have a responsibility to not flush old resin ! I'm lucky I haven't had any reactions to it yet

    Nice Channel 🤘 Abo set🍻
    I love my 3D printer. now two pieces, an Anycubic Photon mono 4k and an X2. I think another larger model will be added this year.
    With the exception of a few models from the new 40k starter box, I printed all of my Tyranids myself for free thanks to Cults3d, except for the resin.
    The latest model is a Warlord Titan. Scaled a little smaller because I couldn't get parts 1-1 onto my printing plate of the X2.
    is it worth printing?
    I'll lean out a little and definitely say YES
    I completely understand that Games Workshop is now getting a bit thick about it, but personally I can't afford to put 1200 euros on the table for a Warlord Titan. my wife would kill me.
    I'm honest, other models from the store aren't worth the money to me either.
    Of course I still buy some things, but now I have a lot to print out on my hard drive.
    If Games Workshop or Forge World were to lower the prices a bit, that would certainly be welcomed. But now I prefer to invest 50 euros a month for the water-washable resin from Anycubic and print myself.
    You can get a lot of miniatures and accessories out of one bottle. and the quality is, in my opinion, really wonderful.

    • @SimplyWarhammer

      With water washable and the airfilters it's not that bad a smell. I leave it running overnight and the family and I sleep fine with the noise. I use ppe like mask and gloves when I'm handling directly with the lid off, it really isn't a problem being in a small area.
      The things I've learned since is its worth spending on less brittle resin and hollowing big bits out saves money but at the risk of strength and you need holes for internal drainage ☺️

    I'm currently working on a fully 3D printed other than My librarian and my two dreadnoughts and my rhino for my custom grey knights army and I'm currently at 460 points if I don't include My librarian and my kaldor Drago proxy dreadnought and my rhino out of cardboard because I only play with my brother and his friends and once every great while at my LGS because the guy who owns the shop literally has a fully 3D printed 10,000 point army and they are beautiful even though they are orks. And even though my brother only pays $35 for a bottle of resin I don't know what brand he gets where the company is but I've never had a problem with the resin and I currently have a kill team of sisters of battle that all have cyber Valkyrie wings and their armor is designed to look like that and when not playing kill team I have them counting as seraphim and zephiram squads
    But the fact that I have a strike squad an interceptor squad and a brotherhood Terminator squad and my brother said the cost of the resin not including electricity for the printer or the curing machine that uses the UV lights or the cost of the isopropyl alcohol I've spent less than $10 for three squads of grey knights a proxy for caldor Drago and two five man squads for the sisters of battle being roughly about another $3 so I've spent 13.00 on 26 miniatures and I cannot count My librarian because that is actually a dark Angels Terminator that I repainted

    Our group has been playing for 20+ years together. We're all retired IT guys who've spent literally thousands of dollars each buying models. We recently purchased 2 3D printers after Warhammer and GW decided to rewrite the lore to conform to their woke narrative. We'll not only print our own models, but design them too. Everyone has a custom built campaign map, so there's no need to go to shops or tournaments anymore. We're just going to go our own way.
