  • The orange hue of the Golden Gate Bridge was an accident of history. San Francisco owes the iconic color of its bridge to Irving Morrow, the consulting architect, who noticed the striking reddish-orange hue of the primer coat, and lobbied to have it made permanent.

    maybe we would love it all the same in any of the options mentioned, and all these years later, someone would edit a little NPR story on the chosen color...

    I just finished watching a 1947 youtube - a color home movie showing the Golden Gate in a silvery color - I like that better anyway than the orange/red.

    So it is not made out gold? There gos my retirement plain
