A glass is actually a very good metaphor for population capacity. The capacity of the glass(population capacity) keeps changing as industries develop and basic goods are more readily available, increasing the pop cap. When the water(population) exceeds the capacity of the glass, water spills out(lots of deaths). Our challenge is to increase the volume of the glass in a sustainable way.

The world become a truly inhospitable place if there was 15 billion people on this planet. We are fucked if the population grows to 15 billion because even at "only" 7.25 billion, the planet's biosphere is completely collapsing. With twice as many people, the planet's life support systems will completely collapse. And we might end up living on a barren desolate planet. Unless mankind realizes that infinite growth in consumption and population is impossible on a finite planet, there can never be true happiness. We have been pursing infinite growth in population and consumption for far too long. End the infinite growth paradigm if we are to survive as a species.
Amanda...we will not get that far...seven billion plus right now, and next is fumigation time...how much population the world will lose between 2017 and 2064???...lets see...one billion death, will make practically no difference and will fix planet earth for a very short time, two billions will do a better job but not a fix for longer than a century or so, but twice that?, four billions??, will do a big fix for centuries and centuries to come...remember that when 25,000 people die a day in planet earth, there is way a bigger amount the ones that born in that specific day and how many die today at natural causes, famine , killings and wars???...there is always a bigger amount to be born, but when fumigation starts fully, in 2017 and ends by 2064, the world will be at a mere 3 billions and then, no later than 2064, we will be able to analyze our resources in 2064, and see, if we can let the same amount of babies to be born a day, compared to the deaths on the same day...but for right now, this is way out of control and that is the only and more important reason , we will be engage in WW3...the way the West do this planing have no equal and we, Americans and Europeans have our populations under control very well, but the rest of the planet, proved how disrespectful they are toward worlds population and world resources...if you are a young person, you will live long enough to see in the next 50 years or so, how mighty right Joe Molinaro was...remember...I TOLD YOU SO...
Joe Molinaro you are right. The world will never even have 15 billion people because we will not be able to produce enough food to feed 15 billion people. We are already having a hard time producing enough food for 7 billion people, so what makes you think we will have enough food for 15 billion people? We will never be able to produce enough food to feed 15 billion people because the world has already ran out of arable land. We are at peak arable land. And we can't improve food production per acre of land either. That has also been maxed out. The world population might be able to grow to 10 billion, but that's about it.
AmandaNerdBot Worthy thoughts, but population and consumption are different cases. Most people consume very little, a minority consume lots. And the people whose numbers are increasing tend to consume least, as will their children. Population won't hit 15 billion: births are about to start coming down while we've ever more elderly reaching the end of their time. World population's taking care of itself though it'll take time, but consumption by the better-off among us will spell disaster if we don't rein it in or shift rapidly from material to other pursuits.
TPCWorld - Top 5 Space Videos! Why do you think that God will give everybody 6 children? But many large families were not originally planned that way. What often happens I think, is that they just had their 4th child, and still haven't gotten around to choosing a "satisfactory" method of birth control. They may not even realize that their family is starting to get really large. And by the time they have a large family, it is too late, and they find that they have gotten used to large family life, and seem to like it.
TPCWorld - Top 5 Space Videos! Please keep that Malthusian anti-people BS to yourself. Thank you very much. So let me get this straight. If a family or parent says that they want to have 6 children, or they have 6 children already and they love them all, you disapprove, regardless of whether they cite religious objections to birth control or not? Personal choice doesn't matter to you, and religious faith doesn't matter to you either? So what gives you any standing to opine how many children other people who you do not even know, should have?

@@meer4874 Nearly empty. A mere 4 million people in New Zealand is not even near 1% of the huge world world population. Nor are they multiplying babies nearly fast enough to be statistically significant.
I'm going to offer another solution to the question. The answer isn't directly medical advancements or food production, the real answer lies a bit deeper: oil. At the turn of the 20th century our population exploded from 1.6 billion to as we know it now, 7 billion. Economically, everything revolves around oil, including better medicine and agriculture. And just as the worlds population exploded with the production and refining of oil, so it will fall at the same rate once we hit peak oil.
The interesting thing is there will always be plenty of oil, We produce as much as people are willing to pay for. Sure cost pre barrel goes up but technological advances make greater production possible. Most industrial nations women average less that 2 kids. Its the under developed world that is driving population growth.
The documentary Collapse (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collapse_(film) talks about this (oil being the reason for population growth) very fact. Oil is the reason for the population growth.
oil is really the main reason for the huge population growth during the 20th century. What you see as oil became ubiquitious the population goes up vertically, growing at an exponential rate.

laura theodora Only 17%? 4%? That is obviously false. The evolution theory has seriously corrupted society, and encouraged people to do bad things. The populatoin growth rate has been decreasing for several decades now. At this rate within a century population will be declining globally. Except africa. Which will have more people than all of asia including india and china and the rest combined.
There is a reason the human population will plateau at 10 billion. Factors such as a limited resource capacity on earth such as food, water, and shelter which are necessities to survive will eventually start killing humans from starvation, dehydration, and exposure to the elements. That, as well as other factors such as lowering fertility rates, diseases, and natural disasters, will slow the human population growth rate and even reducing the total population. This plateau is called the carrying capacity. Where there are not enough resources to sustain a population above a certain amount. This population growth is an example of logistic growth where the graph starts exponential, but platoes at its carrying capacity. Of course, there will be fluctuations below its carrying capacity from increases in death from outside sources; starvation, disease, disaster, etc. As well as fluctuations that increase the population from increased resource capacities, new medical technologies, etc. However, those fluctuations are only temporary. Unless we find some magical solution to our ever-growing problems or we venture out into space, the carrying capacity is stuck and won't easily budge. At ten billion, or whatever the carrying capacity may be, the death rate will be around the same as the birth rate and the growth of the human population will all slow to little, temporary fluctuations. Take this from a well-educated person to believe. This is our future.
Its weird knowing that the Earth has passed 8 Billion people, but when this video came out there were only 7 billion, we grew by a billion in just 11 years, crazy
I'll tell you why: We all were once souls in heaven. We spent all our time as souls in heaven. We never wanted to go onto earth, but one soul did... All the souls thought earth was dangerous and warned the soul. It was to late to tell the soul going to earth. We gave him the nickname 'idubbbz'. When idubbz landed, he saw something called 'memes'. He enjoyed them so much he made his own. One of them we believed said was 'Hey, that's pretty good..'. When idubbbz got back from heaven, he showed everybody the memes. Everyone on heaven enjoyed them so everybody went down to earth. The way the reproduced was the same today but your soul inserts memes into their food and then their stomach grows so then you can fit in.... That's why we have 7billion people. Thank the MEMES!

Joe Molinaro
you are right.
AmandaNerdBot But have we forgotten medicine?/ We probably wont even reach 9 billion without medicine

+Yosef MacGruber Not everyone wants to have 6 kids lol.
Yosef MacGruber Please keep that religious shit to yourself thank you very much.
Birth control should be handed out free
Untied States actually tried that one time but religious people protested against birth control

Oh man, looks like YT recommendations have brought us together again.
Nostalgia.
1:30 asia: *GAS GAS GAS IM GONNA STEP ON THE GAS*
John Moore I admit I've watched that documentary a few times, but yea i agree with you.
oil is really the main reason for the huge population growth during the 20th century. What you see as oil became ubiquitious the population goes up vertically, growing at an exponential rate.

Malthusian much? I am obviously not a Malthusian. So pathetic anti-life Malthusian arguments are unlikely to appeal to me.
And what of the huge numbers of people who have objections to birth control? I find their objections to be quite valid, commendable, easy to understand. Surely people still have the natural and God-given right, perhaps even the duty, to have naturally-large families.
@@yosefmacgruber1920 Let me ask you a question, would you prefer 50 people living a happy life on a small island or 5000 people fighting over food and water on the small island and living a quite miserable life.

@@walmart506aj-7
Malthusian much? False dichotomy much? Why can't large populations live a happy life? There is no basis for me to deny my neighbor having 8 children. Children come from God, are a wondrous blessing from God. Dissing having many children for no good reason, is actually rebellion against God.

Overpopulation is one of the biggest threats facing humanity.
+George Severn
The world is a huge place. There is plenty of room for everybody.
It would seem that corrupt governments, are the real threat.
+Yosef MacGruber I think your living in a dream ? We can only live on 17% of the earths surface , 4% is able to grow crops - millions of children die of hunger every year ! I think its the religions of the world that have to change , and stop telling people to breed ! The more people on the earth the more corruption .
laura theodora
Only 17%? 4%? That is obviously false. Modern technologies such as air-conditioning and ocean water desalination, make it very possible, if people so choose, to live and thrive even in the deserts. Israel is proof that barren wastelands can be transformed.
It is Malthusian people-hating, and backwards paganism, that needs to change. The evolution theory has seriously corrupted society, and encouraged people to do bad things. And don't we both know, the religions will never change, well except that truth will eventually overtake the lies.
It is the loving and kind people, who are more easily persuaded to have more children, so it is one of those things that works out on its own. Somebody has fed you a bunch of pagan propaganda that has confused your mind.
Yosef MacGruber
Desalinization destroys ocean life ! And Israel takes a lot of water from others to survive ! and i think you need an education on truth of modern technology its not sustainable - Religious people have less morality then non religious people ! They think they can trample over nature and think its there right to ! Religions will change it has no choice because there is so much more truth coming out about where and how it began ! And its effects on humanity -your fighting a lost cause there ! And as far as religious people being more loving ????? when and where ? and your the one with a confused mind !

Malthus was right.
This has nothing to do with paganism, this is plain fact.

I'll tell you why:
We all were once souls in heaven.
