I researched on trauma & childhood trauma & what was explained is that no matter how many years goes by the TRAUMA never goes away! Even if a person seeks professional help, you can't erase bad memories or hurt & pain! Stay strong 😇🙌✊

Cheryl -- you grew up in a world that is all about appearance. I saw you on DWTS talking about "numbing" with AJ. I can't tell you how refreshing it is to see how you are revealing yourself -- not just to those in your inner circle but with the world. YOU GO, GIRL!! You are a woman of integrity and strength and a model for all of those who have come before and will come after you.

As someone who also experienced trauma at a young age (not as young as you, but it became a constant from 6th grade through 12th grade due to an emotional abusive family member), I also got stuck in a pattern of abusive, toxic relationships and thought that THAT was what love was. I related a lot to what you said about now you're really sensitive to any tiny bit of toxic behavior and are quick to shut it down because I've become like that within the last 2 years. Thanks for sharing your story ❤️

    Hi Cheryl,
I’ve been a fan for a long time. As someone who’s also been through a lot of things, I can’t tell you how grateful I am for your openness and honesty in sharing your story. There an be so much shame or stigma in trying to talk about these things. I’m sorry for what you’ve been through, but your journey of overcoming is really encouraging, and gives me hope that maybe I can too. Hope you will continue to share. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing your story! I too am a survivor of sexual trauma. My mother didn't pick very good men and they sexually abused me. I was really abused in many different ways as a child. She was just continuing the cycle of abuse. She was physically abused as a kid. It's been hard but talking to a therapist helps. I would love to find out about the meditation you do among other things to apply what you learned. I just found your channel.

Cheryl, thank you so much for having the courage to share these experiences. I can relate to almost all of them, except for sexual abuse. I watched you at " Dancing with the stars" and of course coming from a filipino family gave me the opportunity to watch u as well. Upon hearing your abused story( from your video), really an admiration to a woman who speak up from a very traumatic experience. I loved the way u handled it and so proud of u. Things happened for a good reason n look at u now . You look amazing , very open from that experience n u spoke with a lot of composure. Stay safe!

I was sexually abused as a child....I was raped as a teen by 2 “friends” and left to die from alcohol poisoning in my parents driveway that night and thankfully found by my brother...while I was in high school I had a sexual relationship with a coach and definitely touched and flirted with by all the others...when I was 14 my boyfriend was 21...when I was 15 I “dated” a cop that was 33....all of this felt normal to me because of the sexual abuse from my childhood....I married right out of high school a guy 1 yr younger than me who was good to me and never laid a hand on me in a bad way...about a year after we married ..I was 20 he was 19....he got really heavy into some hard drugs..I was beaten and continuously....one night he held me down by my neck on our kitchen table and and he allowed his 5 friends to gang rape me.....I suffered miscarriages from this man...I was put in the hospital 5 times from him from being beaten so bad....when I found out I was pregnant again...with the help of my family I divorced him...I was able to have all of his parental rights terminated for my son...I was never going to allow that man be alone with my son...being pregnant with my son saved my life..I was not going to let that man take anymore of my babies from me...life “mentally” was very hard for me for many years....it’s been almost 30 years since that gang rape in my kitchen..I still wake up with night terrors in the middle of the night screaming..I can literally feel his hands are around my neck......it doesn’t go away..abuse stays with you forever...I talk to teens and woman all the time about my life..to try and save them from what I went through...I am married to a wonderful man now..we have been together for 22 yrs...he adopted my son and we have another son together they are grown men now and I have always been overly honest with them about my life..they are so protective of me.........I too am the best therapist to other people but I have never taken time to take care of myself..I am very open..but sometimes not as open about all the repercussions I still deal with daily from it.......I adore you and I applaud you for your honesty...you are helping so many young girls and women!!! I was a singer and a star athlete..got scholarships to 2 different colleges for 3 different sports.....I turned them down to marry this fool....and I haven’t sung publicly...unless drunk at karaoke..lol....in 30 yrs........singing was my release....I don’t think I will ever have that back...too many things he said to me still in my head...I just put on a smile and go on with life! I am so proud of you!!

I am so glad I saw this video because I know someone who has a lot of emotional baggage with people. She constantly has issues with patients, co-workers, tenants, nannies & family members. She would always call me to unload on me about a tenant or a patient. The irony of it is, she is actually a licensed psychotherapist & social worker....and she and I also used to go to self-help/self-empowerment seminars together. So my qualms about her is that she doesn't practice what she preaches. She has all the tools & knowledge but doesn't even apply it into her own life. The most ironic thing about her is that she is a trauma/grief specialist...yet she doesn't seem to know how to help herself in order to help others. I recognized that she has a victim mentality & she is stuck there. In fact, she is in complete denial that she has a victim mentality.
I am glad you came to terms with your past & that you did the work to help you navigate yourself to healing that trauma. I can see that you have taken full responsibility for your own life regardless of your dad's abandonment. From how you speak about it, you are so in control of your own story & narrative. And you created an extraordinary life for yourself.

Wow! That’s pretty sad! For me, the start of my trauma started when I was 6/7 years old when I witnessed my parents fighting a lot and when I was almost 8 my parents divorced. My ex-Aunt/Godmother (she was my Aunt by marriage) turned the whole family against my mom and as a result alienated me and my sisters. As a child/teen, I was bullied for being the “weird kid” and some members of my extended family treated me differently from my sisters because I was different from them.

I'm so glad I found your sight. I can relate to most of it. You tell yourself that no one else has these problems. And they do. I've gone through many years of therapy too. And it was the best thing I did. I do have a couple family members think that I shouldn't of gone through therapy. But they don't have me at their beck and call. I too had to apply what I was learning through therapy. And sad that family members don't agree. We only have one life to live and why not be happy with what we have each day. What has helped me lately is listening to a couple great ministers sermons.

What you have done to deal with it, thank you for sharing, serves as encouragement for all of us to face traumas and to learn to live a good life knowing that you can come out of this as a better human when you can confront the person (s) who have hurt a vulnerable child if possible but most of all to deal with the issue by facing it, learning to forgive and most of all to treat yourself with the upmost care and love. Wishing you the best always! You are such a great dancer, such a beautiful and courageous woman.

I was abused emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually, by my now ex husband of 23 years. He ruined my singing voice, out of spite, when he choked me. He caused me to miscarry all of my babies. He told me that he couldn't "dance" anymore. I was rushed by ambulance to a hospital, because I was throwing up blood. He messaged me and said it's not that he couldn't, but not with me. He found my body hideous. He told me that no man will want me. If I get lucky and a guy wants me, I need to have sex in the dark, so I don't scare the guy away.

My earliest memory is when I was like 3 years old and I was watching the Flintstones in my livingroom and I was looking for my parents and when I went towards their room.. the door was slightly open and I remember looking in seeing my parents fighting and screaming at each other and my mom crying. My parents divorced when I was 3 years old.

Was sexually assaulted by my stepdad from the time I remember, the age 5 till I left home when I was 16. In my late 20’s I found out he had done it to my brother as well. I want to write a book and I want to get the laws changed to where the statute of limitations are longer or what I would really like is that there is no statute of limitations. This has totally messed with me my whole life, have been in therapy for years and take medications for PTSD, depression, major anxiety, and sometimes I just get really moody and in my own head about it. I have had so many issues in relationships, my husband now is really the only one who understands me, and he talks me down. I ran away so many times trying to get away from my stepdad, that I am a runner and if things get rough I run. I can tell my husband that I feel like running, he would talk to me about it. But now he won’t do that much anymore. I just don’t think people understand unless it happens to them. He has an amazing family, he is the youngest of 10 kids. They are all so close. I don’t speak to anyone in my family. My brother passed away in 2008, he was like my best friend. After he passed away I had an on and off relationship with my family but now I don’t have anything to do with them. The last thing my mother said to me was she wished I was dead instead of my brother.
