- Quite a few of you have been asking about my dance career before I got into DWTS, so I decided to make this video which explains all!
Starting off all the way back in the 90s, I show you my journey through the Pro/Am category, with plenty of old recordings of my early competition days! I'd love to know what you thought of it, so please leave your comments below, and let me know if you'd like to see more like this.
Make sure to subscribe to my channel, get notified for all my new videos, and follow me on my journey to discover myself. I'll be revealing my past, present and looking into the future, and revealing the REAL Cheryl Burke behind all the glamour you've seen on stage and screen.
Lots of love and light to you all!
Cheryl

I fell in love with international Latin style dancing when I saw the movie dance with me. I never had a chance to learn and now I feel like it’s so hard to find this style and the standard style in my local area. I would love to learn more about your journey through competition!
This footage is awesome. Love your mom! I literally laugh out loud when she pops up. Can't wait to hear more!
Glad you enjoyed!
@@CherylBurke Omg you actually responded to a fan. I love you even more now! It was nice to see your brother in law on Dwts but next season would be really cool if you partnered up with your husband! 🤟🏻
I've seen you in Dancing With The Stars but your story about how you got in the ballroom industry is so inspiring. I wanted to be a Broadway star/working actress and also a ballroom dancer, so your story inspired me to take ballroom lessons. Thank you!
Cheryl,
Thank you for sharing. I just started taking ballroom dance lessons in December of 2020. I got into it to lose weight and also to gain my confidence back after having life saving surgery this past July that changed how my abdomen looked. Now that I'm in it, I'm falling more in love with it and am easily getting sucked into the world. I love hearing about how or why people got into dance.
I did do ballroom dancing for 4 years. I absolutely loved it. I wish I was still dancing. Cheryl, you are a amazing dancer. I could never get enough of ballroom dancing.
Cheryl, you are an amazing dancer & you have won so many Mirrorball trophies on DWTS!! Don't stop dancing!! Love ya!!!
I Will Always Adore you! Your DWTS exercise dvds helped me lose over 130 pounds when i was younger. I Always Dreamed to Dance with you! One day I Hope we meet and Can Burn the Dance Floor.
You are adorable!! Love hearing your stories!! So interesting! You are so very lucky to have the type of mother you have, she obviously believed the sky was the limit for you! I also admire the way you adore your step Dad.
This is cool to hear about Cheryl! Glad you had good teachers who laid the foundation for your dance career.
I’ve been watching DWTS since season 2. You and Drew Lachey are still my all time favorite couple.
I can’t help but feel that persistence is a Filipino trait. 😂
As a fellow mestiza, when you talk about your mom, I cant help but laugh and think to myself “Oh, I know EXACTLY what you are talking about.” 🤣
This is awesome! My son is 13 and ballroom dancing. I love seeing these sort of behind the scenes or things we can anticipate. None of our family are from this dancing world so we are flying blind and letting his teachers lead us along and we just saw Jonathan a couple of weeks ago and he evaluated my kiddo. Thank you and keep them coming please!!!
I love these stories. Some of these names are names I'm familiar with (Jonathan Roberts, Tony Delgado, David Weise) so it's fun to see how intertwined the whole community is.
Looking forward to hearing part 2!
Cheers!
David Bruckner
Thank you🤗I love this... I have loved dance and used to travel alone to see all the pros and went to DWTS the first 10 season. So I appreciate this about you.. 🤗 my husband loved watching you and would vote for you(still does) no matter what partner you have. 😂he’s so funny. Can’t wait for the next part.
That is awesome! Thanks for all your support. xx
Love this video! So glad your mom saved all this footage!
I didn’t enjoy ballet either as a child so I changed to gymnastics. It was a much better outlet for me.
Love all the dance footage your mom took! 💃🏻
This video is great! I love the way you got introduced to Ballroom Dancing! I watch the competitions on T.V. It's funny that you competed against your Mom. You've come a long way, Cheryl! God bless.
I’m old but used to watch ball dancing when I was younger. When I was younger I want to be a Ball dancer. Love DWTS
such success so early, talented lady !
Yay!!!! Love you Ms Cheryl!
Hello Cheryl, you have inspired me for many years with your dances on Dancing with the Stars! You are such a brilliant dancer and your style of dancing is so graceful. It was your passion for dancing that inspired me to got back to the world world and learn new styles of dances all over again. From there I went go to teach a small dance group of young girls at church. I appreciate you for sharing your stories of your journey to dancing.
Such a joy to watch and hear about your journey in dancing. Hope you continue to share your story. I'm also fan of your diamond painting. Its a hobby of mine too. ❤️
Love you! And to listen to your journey! Very interesting!
I was so inspired and l enjoyed every moment of your video!
Love the stories Cheryl!
Thanks for sharing, Cheryl! I love to hear all about this...especially when you mention dancers I know of from DWTS!
You are so welcome!
I enjoyed this video so much
Glad you enjoyed it xx
I’ve never seen dancing with the stars (and I didn’t even know you were in that show until I read the comments, that’s how little of the show i’ve seen haha)
But i’m here because I really really want to start ballroom dancing but i’m kind of scared.
I’m turning 17 in four days and I see people say that’s really late! I’m also not exactly as thin as the girls who normally compete ballroom dance and i’ve never danced at all before.. plus I feel like first lessons are super scary! Your video is just making ballroom dance seem even more exciting though! It would be so amazing to compete in ballroom dance and take classes!
Go for it!!! I just started about a month ago (I'm 16) and its so much fun and I'm not thin as other girls either but it's so much fun! And 17 is definitely not too late to start nothing someone's passionate about can be started too late so don't worry! I will admit the first lesson can be scary and intimidating but I'm sure it'll go just fine. Good luck on your dancing journey! (P.s. you should watch dancing with the stars it is so beautiful and it gets me pumped to dance lol)
Go for it!!! I'm 38 and definitely don't have the thin body that dancers have and I just started three months ago. It's a lot of fun and you will get sucked into it. Do it. I got into to so I can lose weight and gain confidence with my body as I had life saving surgery months ago that changed my body image and confidence within myself. It's slowly bringing my confidence back and I'm seeing changes within my body. Go for it!
Thank you for sharing your story. I’ve been a huge fan of yours ever since you started with DWTS! When you mentioned you grew up in the Bay, I became even more of a fan. I always admire ballroom dancing and when I was a little girl, I used to always walk home and walk by Metronome Dance studio in San Francisco and just stare at all the ballroom dancers and I always wanted to dance just like them. I grew up in San Francisco like yourself. You’re my favorite dancer in DWTS and I admire your creativity and passion for dance. 💜
Thanks for sharing this .Can't wait to see you in DWTS.
I hope these videos are as cathartic to you as they are enjoyable to us. Thanks for taking your time to do this. Blessings to you and your family.
So glad you decided to get so serious about ballroom dancing at that age! It was totally meant to be!
Found your stories on RUclips so excited hearing your experiences and the world of ballroom dancing. Good job sharing them and letting us fans know what you're up to these days.
Yes, I definitely want to hear more! Love you on DWTS! ❤️ Props to your mom! She’s so talented! 🙌🏻
More to come and thank you!

You are a great storyteller; this was fun to watch! Looking forward to more stories! 🤗💕
Really needed to hear your story. Started my ballroom early this year (right before covid lockdowns), and it for sure has been an emotional rollercoaster...even at this moment! I've been fortunate to have been able to join my alma mater's ballroom dance club and meet others in the ballroom community.
Love watching your early days of dancing 💖
Thanks for making the vids! I always loved dancing 💃🏻 with stars. And the sort of lights a fire 🔥 in me. Not just for dance but in all things worthy having a fire 🔥 about!
Please continue this story, it's terrific!
Yes Cheryl, you are one of our favorite Pro Dancing With the Stars.❤❤❤
Dear Cheryl, Very interesting, and amazing how Hard all you young dancers worked at attaining your skills. Props to you all. ? about DWTS do you also have to separate from your husband during the season since the married ones do? I find it hard to believe that Peta would agree to separate from her son for that amount of time, but this whole virus thing is so kind of mind blowing anyways. FYI if you used this channel during the season for questions, 10 to 1 your subscriptions would go Way Up. Anyways find this very interesting and entertaining, thank you, and good luck. 💃💃💃🌟🌟🌟
I found this very interesting. I read your book years ago which was very good. Thanks for sharing your life with us.
Glad you enjoyed it!
What an awesome video
Bubby Nguyen thank you so much! I love your comment. xx
This story I need a timeline and a map or an outline with pictures to keep up 🤣🤣🤣 it's fun to watch and see how you got started I am a 10-15 yr Dancing with the Stars fan!! Omgoodness I am in denial about my age and how long I have been watching DWTS🤣🤣🤣
Had no idea the training was that intense. No wonder you pros are so amazing.
Thank you for sharing a generous chunk of your early life! You are still my favorite DWTS pro. QUESTION: How do you "lovingly" kick someone to the curb? 😆
Haha! Good question. Politely!
@@CherylBurke Fair enough! 🤜🤛
I had no idea you did pro-am! (Although you did early enough that you yourself could turn pro, whereas that is a pipe dream for me.) I met Stephan Krauel at a comp in Hawaii; nicest man on the face of the planet, and his SF competition is on my list of places to compete when COVID is over.
You are so fun to watch Cheryl it’s great to get to know you better
How did you become a cheographer not only a dancer ??
I loved this so much and the footage is so cool to see. I am definitely interested in hearing more about how you got into ballroom dancing.

I think i remember seeing your mom dance when i was a kid. I watched ballroom on tv as a kid. I though it was so amazing. Still would love to learn. But i feel i have 2 left feet
Amazing!!! Yes, yes want to hear more.
Love this story. Your mom is very supportive. Thank you for sharing. I am looking forward to hearing more. God bless you!
I actually did ballroom for a few years but got bored after a switch to a lackluster teacher and a few "bad" partners. Kinda wish I'd stuck with it though.
Your husband should be on Dancing with the Stars ⭐️ next season!!!!
Good story Cheryl! Been watching you and a Fan since the inaguration of DWTS!
Hope to Dance with you and learn tips💕

I wish I could have gotten into dance! I wanted to dance like Fred Asteir. I wanted to tap, but my parents did see spending money on dance classes for a Nebraska farm boy! Hell they would not get me lesson for guitar either cause I might end up playing in a rock and roll band or something!
Looking forward to hearing more!!
Did Derek & Julianne Hough (& one of the other pros) went to Britain to train and appeared in the first 2 Harry Potter movies?
