They did an amazing job at explaining in detail how everything worked back then! I love seeing that our history is being preserved for the new generations to learn about and enjoy 😄
If the area is called "starvation point, poverty gulch, dead mans camp, Lead, etc," it probably has gold. If it has been named "nugget creek, oroville, coarsegold, etc.," you probably need too check a few canyons to the east.
True good example is Oroville Washington just north some of the historic mines in Canada Hedley and copper mtn which is still in production discovery date was about 1890
Ya it reminds me of when they labeled Greenland and Iceland. Greenland sounds better than Iceland but is probably worse or has more ice cause it’s further north haha. There was misinformation or propaganda a thousand years ago hahaha
My grandfather told me in the old days in Oroville, California, a mining company offered to move the whole town so they could hydraulic the gravel underneath. The townspeople voted it down. Now as a plumber in Oroville, a water leak can have a windfall profit in it.
Jeff, when you get too old working your mine and think you want to retire, you would make an excellent Mine Tour Guide! Your videos are very informational and fun to watch. Sometimes you get so excited talking about gold and gold mining, you want to stop talking and just get your hands dirty looking for more. Thank you for paying for the admission fee then taking us along for the tour. A separate lift for people in wheelchairs would be a blessing. The handicap tour!
Thanks Jeff. I really enjoyed this episode. Not only was interesting to hear about the feats the guys achieved here with the widow maker, the blast pattern and the lifters but we got to see it too. Id never get to see these things as im not well off and cant afford to come to America and see for myself so i really apreciate you showing us all. God bless, from Edinburgh Scotland. 😊
It's awesome you visited this mine. My family and I visited this exact mine site back before covid in 2018 and it is what got me hooked on gold and underground history. It's an awesome tour!
Wow. So happy to see you in Cripple Creek. Years ago in my younger days, I took many motorcycle trips to that area. Of course it has changed tremendously over the years. The trips I took out there, started before the casinos were there and the road from Cripple Creek to Victor used to swing down right in front of the mill. Now it bridges over that canyon and all the mining is those huge leach piles. I have been in the Molly Kathleen 3 or 4 times and love it. I can't imagine how the old timers did all that mining, it is just such a wonderful place. Thanks Jeff, for showing me that area again. I love it, love it, love it.
I noticed something interesting, quite by accident. Run this video at normal speed and high definition- and most of the mining tunnel shown looks like plain old rock, with striations, faults and etc. Now, run it at the lowest definition and slowest 1/4 speed- and you can clearly see the highly mineralized areas within the tunnels! THEY show up as flashes, lit up like GOLD itself...I had to swap between both modes, normal and low definition several times-and this is clearly what I'm seeing on my flat screen. Obviously, not all of it shows up as this reflectively lit area- it is in streaks, blobs and patches- but they are clearly there and more easily visible. You might want to try this on some of your own mine tunnels? I will pick a few vids from your series and your mine and will check them out, and post the results there for you- where it is in the video time and where I see it on the screen-if this phenomena works on those tunnels also. Could be something new from low, old tech? If it works, i discovered it first and it was posted here now.
I've got some carbide lamps that used to belong to my dad's dad. He used to be about 7ft tall and mined coal in really small places lying down picking away. 👍💚💛❤️
This is great, Jeff! Been to Mollie Kathleen a few times. If anyone is thinking of a great day-trip from Colorado Springs area, this is definitely worth it! They have a great little gift shop and Cripple Creek is a wonderful old mining town with lots to explore. Thanks again, Jeff and L!
Thanks for that Jeff. I just got back from Goldfield and Tonopah. Toured the Florence and was hoping to go underground there. They no longer do underground tours at the Florence. Now I’m gonna have to tramp to Cripple Creek for that one.
This was a very educational video about how gold mining progressed through the years. Nice they were able to make it safer as they did and faster to harvest the gold. It would be interesting to know how what they paid back then would compare to what is paid nowadays. You offer great content and revealing footage of all that goes into gold prospecting and mining.
miners were paid on the job experience they had so anywhere from 2 dollars a day up to 4 dollars a day ....in today's terms that would be $200 to $400 dollars a day as Gold was $20 bucks an ounce and today it $2500 dollars an ounce
@@Askjeffwilliams So being a miner was an excellent job back in the day then minus the hazards of being down in the mine. Thank you for the information Jeff.
I went to Cripple Creek in 2018 and toured around town and rode the train. I loved the mine tour there at the Molly Kathleen! The visitors center was even great with the huge model of the mine that was 2 stories tall!
