Zizek has a very interesting take about santa claus discussing how the belief functions as a healthy exchange between child and parent where the parent is comforted by the child's innocent belief in a real metaphysical reward system for moral goodness and the child pretends to believe so as to allow the parent to be comforted in a paradoxical naive belief that the child holds naive beliefs. He says it way better than I do.
Here's an interesting thought: the Jupiter and Saturn is connected to the Black Sun (the Sun in the Underworld). This symbol is a reconciliation of opposites which we see embodied in Man-God Saviors like Jesus and Dionysos (which is why both are usually associated with Tiphareth which is symbolized by the Sun).
Your videos are pure gold man. For some time I have been relating to the "denier" archetype. For some time I felt like my life in itself it's a waste, feeling hopeless and useless most of the time, but your video reminded me to have faith in something, that faith keeps us going . Now I know why Christmas was much better when I was a little kid, because I believed in Santa Claus! I’ve denied Santa since I was 4 in 2018 I got a ps4 in 2017 I got a Xbox 360 in 2019 I got frootyloops (a 100 filler beat program) and a producer starter set up and this year I got a quest 2, so imma need you to shut the bull shit up, chief
At first I was very skeptical of where this video was going, but then I found so many ways to relate it to myself and my current situation. I’ve struggled with thinking about mortality and my existence and had turned to religion a while ago. Even so, I still struggled with true and complete belief in it. As a psychology student, religion is generally discredited in the field (dualism being rejected) and I found myself in conflict between knowledge and faith, denial and belief. I suppose this video was a good thing to have come across. Perhaps there is some sense of empowerment in the struggle after having listened to this.

I'm glad to see a video on this phenomenon of returning to beliefs with the desire to leverage their metaphoric qualities in spite of being previously disillusioned or even crestfallen by a past realization of "the big lie". It's like the return to Eden - a defeating of the Great Soul Trap - separating the wheat from the chaff. I experienced something similar with a post-ironic and sincere return to Christ's teachings after having being force-fed an utterly fragmented menagerie of doctrine for the first two decades of my life.
i believe in santa because it's nice to tell myself things to keep some magic alive. other examples that other people use include 'they really do love me', 'the food i eat was farmed sustainably (and i dont let my conscious know something died for my dinner)', as well as 'everything will work out'.
Does this development you described apply to Lovecraft, too? That guy was very critical of religions, but at the same time, he always wrote about gods, demons and so on.
It's not a dichotomy between belief and non-belief, it's really a dichotomy between knowing A is real and knowing A isn't real with belief being in the middle of the two.
Temple of Solomon the king from Crowley's Equinox no 1 vol 5 on this subject is one of my favorite things, it really rips apart this subject to it's barebones and leaves one satisfied
I never taught my three children about Santa. I wanted them to know that it was their parents that worked hard to get them their gifts under the tree. Why would I give credit to some fictional character? LIke you said eventually the child will meet the santa denier, then they will think their parents are liars and trust them a little less.

@@popflopsock7014 sounds fake
@@swagggentleman the thing is it’s not

That just means that the power of Santa is so strong it transends something as fickle and feeble as the denial of a mere creature.
@@lapidus9552 bruh have you heard of a myth?
i love this video it perfectly explains something i have been dwelling on for a long period in my life
Merry Christmas 🎅
Next video will be about Blackjaks and Wojak, this is not a request but a prediction
This was a legitimately fantastic lecture lol
Didn't Saint Nick punch a heretic in the face at the Council of Nicaea? Checkmate Santa deniers.
You need more pipe, it increases the validity of your thoughts
i got touch emotionally ily chriss xoxoxo
If anyone hasn't I recommend watching or reading Terry Pratchett's 'Hogfather' for a festive meditation on this exact issue.
Santa is *real*
Thank you this made me smile
1: Santa's real
2: Santa's not real
̛̛͘͟͡3̷̡̕͏: Santa's a super powerful thoughtform/spirit floating about
҉̴͝4́͡ ҉: Gotta make more kids believe in Santa so I can sigil him up to get stuff
Greetings to you! Sol Invictus!
So this was going on over a year?!?
“Nothing is real, m-morty *burp* nothing you do *burp* matters, morty. Dont rise up against the government *burp* morty!”
The game of believing in Santa is in and of itself valuable
Santa in entered my house and stole my TV, so yes he is real
Merry christmas everyone
Holy shit. This man is a prophet for our time
Total chad clothing right there have a nice new year
i believe in santa because it's nice to tell myself things to keep some magic alive. other examples that other people use include 'they really do love me', 'the food i eat was farmed sustainably (and i dont let my conscious know something died for my dinner)', as well as 'everything will work out'.
Does this development you described apply to Lovecraft, too? That guy was very critical of religions, but at the same time, he always wrote about gods, demons and so on.
Marry Christmas and god bless
It's not a dichotomy between belief and non-belief, it's really a dichotomy between knowing A is real and knowing A isn't real with belief being in the middle of the two.
There is no knowing either.
Thank you
My homie Santa always has given me gifts every year.
I do wonder why he is like Big Brother watching you 24/7 tho 🤔
Thanks for doing what you do.
Temple of Solomon the king from Crowley's Equinox no 1 vol 5 on this subject is one of my favorite things, it really rips apart this subject to it's barebones and leaves one satisfied
santa deniers when a poor family gets a ps5 for christmas: wait thats illegal
santa believers: looks like he was a good boy this year
Santa is dead. Santa remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers?
Santa Believer 4 life
merry christmas bros
I never taught my three children about Santa. I wanted them to know that it was their parents that worked hard to get them their gifts under the tree. Why would I give credit to some fictional character? LIke you said eventually the child will meet the santa denier, then they will think their parents are liars and trust them a little less.
brilliant
So, which college are you a professor at? I want to enroll in your class.
It would take an entire new educational system to accommodate this amount of highly refined memery.
I had a German person tell me Santa was not real.
