    Picked up an AC Pacific Aloe Vera 6" Memory Foam Mattress and no cutting needed. The king on the other hand…. But agreed! Best upgrade. I never used the OEM mattress.

    Blue tape sewing. 😂 That electric knife was perfect. We just used regular old scissors. Worked fine, just more tedious.

      We should have bought this sooner! Gotta love blue tape, we were going to sew but, I was like - heck, you'll never see it after the sheet cover is over it! lol

      @@One2ManyHobbies When we bought our Fleetwood, we immediately knew to upgrade, and add foam tiles underneath. So much better!! We cut down a king size for the adults' bed, and found a barely used topper on FB for the kids that is a queen. It's just a little short, not too bad. (Both our bunk ends are "king".)

      @@AdventuresinPopUps we’re moving over to the queen side & the kids sleep sideways on the king, there 7/4 years old. The door hangs on the King side of our camper + there is more canvas/vinyl material on that side, so there’s less room to add a topper or bigger mattress and still close the roof - so we switched sides b/c we/me wanted to upgrade the mattress. Lol I felt like it wasn’t even worth keeping the OEM mattress is was so bad, I could squeeze it and touch my fingers basically.

    Now you need a heated mattress pad, unless you are only doing warm weather camping. Nice! I put 2" of memory foam on ours. That makes closing a little more of a task. Once the memory foam toppers wear out I might do this mod.

      I dry camp in the winter month, so can’t use the electric heated mattress anyways! We thought about adding a 2” topper to the OEM mattress but the OEM mattress was so bad, figured an all in one would be better - and it so is!!!

      @@One2ManyHobbies I'll probably take your route when the mattress toppers wear out. It would have been much more expensive to go with Zinus mattresses and heated mattress pads. When I dry camp in could weather I run an inverter generator to charge the batteries and run the heated mattresses.

      @@robertmooberry725 Nice - We run heater and some nice sleeping bags - nothing better then sleeping in cold weather! Not a fan of a generator, too loud for me - even a nice Honda - I'd rather hear the water falls all night over a generator.

    I just put the 6in Zinus on the king side in my flagstaff 228bhse and it closed no problem. I saw it on sale on Amazon for $150 few weeks ago and pounced on it.

    This will be our next upgrade. Going to do both beds. Also might build the external chuck box, I liked your version.

      Be careful on the side of the camper that holds the door on the ceiling - reason we moved over to the queen side - our doors sits above the king & restricts the roof from closing if you add too thick of a mattress. So, we moved the kids over to the kid with the OEM mattress & we’ve got the nicer mattress on the queen now.

    • @jshawnq
      @jshawnq Год назад +1

      I though of that. I think I'm going to start storing the door on the slide out. Where I store the bathroom door. That should give me enough room. Those factory mattresses are horrible.

    I read in review that the Zinus mattresses have fiberglass inside. I saw none during your video.

      Mine did, but it doesn’t look like what you’d expect to see. I didn’t see it while opening or cutting, but with the lights off and a flashlight or shop light shining at the right angle, everythign in my garage where I was working was glistening with fiberglass particles. Threw it away and bought the foam only (no mattress cover) version.

    I also have a Rockwood ESP popup, any chance i could get the 8" version in there and still be able to close it?

    • @One2ManyHobbies

      No - I wouldn't go any larger than 6"

    • @One2ManyHobbies
      @One2ManyHobbies  Год назад

      Also - remember I moved from the King side over to the Queen side to do this - because the King side has the door above it, taking up that free space for the new bigger mattress.

  • @wesfisher6410

    Any idea how thick the king size mattress is? We are getting this exact model soon and wife would like to replace the mattresses with something new.

    • @One2ManyHobbies
      @One2ManyHobbies  10 месяцев назад

      The OEM mattresses are around 4" and HARD - basically sleeping on the plywood. You won't be able to replace the king, weird size and the door hangs above the King side, main reason we moved to the queen side so we could get a bigger mattress.

    Have you found that the gel-infused memory foam does help keep you cool in hot weather? I've heard memory foam can be really hot to sleep on so wondered if the gel was a marketing gimmick or if it actually helped?

    • @One2ManyHobbies
      @One2ManyHobbies  Год назад +1

      We don’t camp in warm weather so I can’t answer that. It’s wayyyy more comfortable to sleep on, I know that!

    #1 reason why the mfg's don't put that kind of mattress in any kind of camper is simple, and that is $$$$$$. Cutting costs.
    A different way to do it that I like to do is take an air mattress and use it. Don't need to buy anything new relatively and all you do is pump it up. You don't even take it out, you leave it in when you're collapsing the trailer. Just a thought

      I’m not a fan of the blowup mattress, someone moves the whole mattress moves up & down. Good idea for those who like them & if they fit.
