Hey there! I enjoy the vids. I have used LED light strip on different projects for years. You actually didn't need to use the power transformer as controller (the white box) uses 12v power that your camper already has, just use an adaptor plug. Just an FYI. Keep the vids coming!
The LED strip looks great! There are awning LED strip kits that for about $50 that are better suited for a camper. They include a C-channel & 3M adhesive strips that grips to the side of the camper. The LED strip itself is encased in a silicone sleeve to make it waterproof which then locks into the C-channel. It comes with a RF remote (rather than infrared) so the remote can be anywhere to change the color. You don't to line of sight to the controller.
When I get my camper back I’ll have to show you what I did. I hardwired my light strip, and also added a 45 angle defuser housing that I randomly came across hahaha, love your videos, wish I had the time to do the same. Also added a battery cutoff switch for when the camper is in storage. Going to add in your 12v charger/battery monitor to the inside.
We have really wanted to do something exactly like this. Two things we haven't decided on yet. One is that our awning bag is very big and comes down almost to the bottom edge of our camper top, so if we did the regular LED strips, they would be almost right above the bottom edge of the top shell. That led us to think about edge lit LEDs. But then we are not sure how much light they would project outward, and if it would be enough to light our sitting area. I would also love to wire them into the 12V system so they can be used with the battery and not need any transformers. So far, I haven't been brave enough to drill into the roof and look for the electrical wires up there.
Have the lights held up? Any concerns after you installed them? I got my set delivered a while ago and am just getting around to installing them. Just wondering if they have held up. Love your stuff. Keep up the great work!!
A 16' strip draws about 2amps so a 5amp power supply will run 2 strips end to end. If you add more they will be dim. 2amps at 12v is 24watts. I was looking into doing this myself when I stumbled across this video. What I built today is a 1/4" mono to 2.5x5.5mm (same end as the ac/DC power supply) patch cable. Since these lights run on 12v DC I should be able to plug into my 1/4" accessory plug on the porch light to power my strips. Anxious to test it out this weekend
You mentioned the led are converted to 12 volt if its DC you should in theory be able to bypass the transformer and hard wire it to the low volt system on the camper. The transformer should be coverting to DC I believe
Love watching your videos, glad I found you. We just bought a used poo up camper and it needs lots of work, how did you put the new zipper #10 in the side wall? Is that something we can do ourselves..I guess the wall would need to come off to sew it in?? Thanks!!
Hey, my wife and I just finished up renovating our 2009 Palomino Pony. Have you ever thought of or done a video of improving the interior lighting? I have converted the bulbs to warm LED bulbs, however I still find it to be quite dark inside the trailer at night. I'm thinking of led strip lighting. Ps I love your channel! Keep posting those great videos, have learned a lot from them! Thanks!
What wattage are the LED bulbs you put in? We’ve found that the 5 watt variety work the best for lighting up the interior. Beyond that, you could consider picking up those light/fan combos that connect to the shepherd hooks if you have the connector in your pre-existing lighting; however, those are kinda expensive for what they are. A fun option to add a little bit of lighting to the bunk ends are those fairy string lights that are battery powered - just wrap them around the shepherd hooks. In our first camper, we wanted more light over the “kitchen” area, so we mounted a battery powered tap on/tap off light with Velcro right above that area. Finally, I think you could definitely pick up some of those led strip lights (like the ones we put up on the exterior of the Starcraft), but those will only work if you’re on shore power. However, I’m sure they make battery powered ones as well. If you want to do a more permanent modification, you could tie those strip lights into your preexisting 12 volt system, and that way you wouldn’t have to worry about plugging them in or running out of batteries.

Hello, enjoyed this video and many of your other videos. I have a question about something totally different . I own a Jayco pop up. I am trying to figure out how to replace the tubing to the unpressurized inlet for dry camping. It goes to the water tank under the trailer. I don’t know what kind of flex tubing to use me how it attaches. I hope you can help me. Thank you, Wendy
Great videos, thanks for sharing. I recently purchased a 1999 skamper pop-up, turns out it probably needs a roof rebuild. Have you ever had to do that? Seems like a massive undertaking.
I used shrink tube where the wire plugs into the white remote plug and they work great. Just make sure you buy better two sided tape then the lights come with. That tape lasts three weeks
@@ItsPoppin Relohas led type 5050 I had used them on my deck stairs and they worked great. Other then the tape coming off the strip. I redid it with 3M two sided tape and they have held great ever since.
Just bought a strip for my pop up...since you got a jayco now...I'm curious if you added the LED strip to that pop up? And how's it holding up being exposed to the elements and all?
Can you do a video like this but installing the lights inside and hooked up to the existing dc lights? I want better lighting inside but I’m not sure how to hook it up to the current lights inside
To be honest, I'm not sure we will ever do anything like this, but its not out of the rhelm of possibility. Two alternative suggestions: upgrade your existing light bulbs to superbrite LEDs (something around 5w and 600 lumens) or mount battery powered lighting to your ceiling where you need additional lighting.
Have you made a video on re wiring the 7 way plug? I just found out there were two different types of 7 way plugs. What a nightmare that was. I spent the next hour doing every wire separate till I found the right order again.

what i whould do is get 12v automotive srrip lights place it whare its best if on the out side drill a small hole run the cables towards the ciling light housing and splice it in or more fancer use offroding automotive 2 whier water proof plug and fuse then plug it in

Sorry, I should have clarified. The zipper pull was able to just be slidden on because that was all that was required to be replaced. The entire zipper aparatus including the teeth would need to be sewed in.

You may be able to put a small mirror there to make their remote sensor at the certain angle work

Could you put the led strip on the metal piece? My awning hangs pretty low so I won’t be able to put the lights above the metal piece.

Has anyone found that certain colors attract more bugs? Are there better colors to not attract bugs?
Yellow or orange are going to be your best bet.
How is the light strip holding up?
We sold the camper. However, we kept in touch with the family who purchased it and as far as we know, so far so good.

We always took down the controller and didn't worry about the bare wires. We picked up a 2008 Jayco Select 12HW.

That particular zipper was an "open" zipper so we were able to just slide it on.
