just got the smart tote 2. seems like a good purchase. in another video they said if you shut off the trailer valve and then push the red level gauge some of the hose will get emptied into the tank. i haven't tried it yet but will.
Thank you so much. I needed to know that about the hoses coming loose. I'm having a portable tank made at a plastic manufacturing company. That is something I have to tell them. Thanks again.
I wish that I had watched this before my fails this last week. Nice to know that the ring slipping off and bayonet disconnecting from pins is "normal". I don't feel so bad. Thanks for your honesty. I know some things to watch out for now. This last week I only knew that something was going horribly wrong.
Yes, I saw your Tweet the other day about this tote you guys purchased! It deff looks like a great way to dispose of your wastes, w/o having to move your entire trailer to the dump site! Just remember, if you ever want to use the public facilities at camp grounds or RV parks, bring along some Clorox Wipes to sanitize those seats...they're great & keeps you from having to "mummy" the commode seat with TP before you sit (btw, love the way Nadia painted your nails Rob 💅🏼😀)!
Yes, definitely a great option if we are staying somewhere more than 7 days without sewer hookups. Yes, we need to keep some clorox wipes handy!! :) Thanks! Yes, Nadia loves to paint nails!
Robert, I just found this video. Thanks for sharing. I won a "Tote", last year. (Smart Tote2 LX 4 wheel Portable Waste Water Tank - 27 gallon) We haven't used it because once I use it, I don't know where to store it in the Class A RV. (I plan to carry a nut driver, for the hose clamps, just in case.) These tanks are expensive, it's too bad they can't do a better job :-), sealing the hoses.
Hi Ted - This is actually Jessica. Do you have a storage wrack on the back where you could attach it? Do you have a toad? What it is? We put ours in the back of our truck bed on travel days. When we are parked we just put it under the RV. Agreed, for the price, they should be easy to use and those seals should be higher quality. Thanks!!
Jessica, thank you. No rack on Class A, and I don't really want to put it in my Cherokee, toad. I have bay storage room. Maybe I can double bag it while in transit, then just put under rig while parked. It looks like a very high quality product. See you in Texas, if not sooner.
Sounds like you'll need to double bag it in the bay storage room... Were you in Texas or will you be for NomadFest? Forgive me if you have already told me.
thanks for making this vid Robert. Im in a situation i need a remote tank.Happy to see it was you all that covered this. I dont see why you couldn't have a hose with a valve installed just the same as whats on your waste tank. Im thinking just becareful not to break it bc they are made cheaply. (I was going to say made like shit but stopped myself) To be 100% on the connection what if you replaced the hose ends? I have the hose from Walmart (Camco maybe?) that has a nice secure fit. Instead of a bowl, use a empty cat litterbox and you can toss it back in where you store your hose. I really like both if you. I see how you are with your kids and how you are handling your full timing.
Those are really good ideas. I'm going to have to do some research shopping on Monday! Putting a valve at the end of the poo pipe should work. After dumping the remote tank, we could hook it back up to catch the little remaining grey! I should have thought more about it!
✐ Hey guys, sorry I didn't get a chance to speak with you guys directly, but we had an amazing Creator Day and there was a lot of people. You have a fantastic channel and some amazing content. Love the HD Quality too. Stop by my channel as Robert was in one of my Vlog shots. You guys have certainly earned a new subscriber and follower on your various social media hubs. Also, I'd encourage you guys to join the RUclips Community Creator forums and check the General Discussion forums as I've made a thread about our Creator Day. ☺
+BuzWeaver Hi! it was a great day, and very informative. I wish we could have met you, and talked to more folks too! We've stopped by your channel and have subscribed as well. We'll be checking out your videos too!
Yeah. I don't get it either. This 35 gallon one failed (partly my fault) at the front wheel truck because I didn't extend the handle when towing it after several trips. It could have been engineered better.
devartt1 how can you replace it with a different one? It seems to me the Thetford hose is a smaller diameter than the standard ones you can get at Walmart or camping world… I have the same problem and bayonet squeezed off of my RV and I had sewage all over me also.
+alan mckinnon Hi Alan, we like it just fine, it just has its pluses and minuses. The layout of our campsite, causing our black/grey discharge to be so low to the ground drives the main problem. The only real dislike is the type of plastic used to fit the hose to the RV and the ring clamp. We bought it because we need it and continue to use it! Thank you for the question!
Lol yea I understand lol, just thought I'd ask, but if ur daughter did it then u get a pass lol, I have 4 girls and they ask to do my nails but I usually say, you have three other sisters do their nails, lol
that thing you bought is junk. take it back. over ten years ago I bought a blue tote. approx 25 gal. for around $200.00 made in Battle Creek MI, with fill on top use my spare hose and it has a dump on the side with same shut off thats on your trailer. Enjoy your video's. Really take it back to camping world.
Sure why not show them whats wrong why it wont work and trade it fo rone of the good Blue ones with the fill on top and drain on side with regular pull shut offs like on trailer dump handles
+Greg Chamberlain - Hmm...I don't think we have thought about that. We tend to not return things...one of our weaknesses. This is Jessica and I haven't actually used the thing. I would need to see if Robert thinks we should take it back or not. It does do what we need though - let us empty our tanks and then take it to a dumping station without having to move the RV. Thanks so much for watching, commenting, and letting us know about the one that you have. Really appreciate it. -Jessica

GREAT Video! Important info about that product they fail to mention in their sakes video. Thank You!
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks Kim!! Glad this helped!
Thanks for the video. Thanks for showing the details of the process. It is nice to see the mishaps along with things that go right.
+Hank Hey, I find it helpful to expect a disaster, and be alert, so that when something goes wrong, I'm ready to minimize the yechhy.

How much does the tote weight when full? And where would you storage prior to empty it? We own a class B rv and looking for extra waste storage

+Exploring the Local Life Thanks I appreciate it!
BuzWeaver - Sure thing! :)
There is a tote like yours with a shut off valve like the rv has.
Oh...that sounds amazing and convenient!!
Islander son, which one has the shut off valve?
mrairborneranger87 I have to find the video on RUclips that's where I saw it. I'll try to find it but if you find it before I do let me know.
Thank you Robert, Try some locale Raw Honey to a-leave those allergy it helps sometimes.
+David Smith thanks! I love honey. Particularly in my coffee!
aaahhj! there are so many things that overwhelm us about tt's. we finally found ourselves and purchase soon. but we are a bit overwhelmed.
+Natasha Duncan We're here to answer questions! What are your top questions and concerns?
I bought this and the handle broke first weekend...Why, why are critical parts made from plastic and not metal?
Yeah. I don't get it either. This 35 gallon one failed (partly my fault) at the front wheel truck because I didn't extend the handle when towing it after several trips. It could have been engineered better.
I would replace that hose and connector for a better one.
devartt1 how can you replace it with a different one? It seems to me the Thetford hose is a smaller diameter than the standard ones you can get at Walmart or camping world… I have the same problem and bayonet squeezed off of my RV and I had sewage all over me also.
Put a new waste valve at the end of the trailer pipe so you only have 1 cup of grey water maybe if any to deal with.
Thanks for the tip Dale. We hadn't though of that. :) Are they easy to find and replace?
ValterraTwist on waste valve part # T 58. Your choice to glue on or not .
Dale T Fantastic. Thank you!
Dale - Thank you so much. We went out and bought one this weekend. It has made a huge difference!
why did you by it if you do not like it ?
+alan mckinnon Hi Alan, we like it just fine, it just has its pluses and minuses. The layout of our campsite, causing our black/grey discharge to be so low to the ground drives the main problem. I was asking him the whole time why are your nails black 😂😂
Cheri Harrison - Now you know. :D
