I really like the brick-built hull in this set, especially the way you redesigned the bow. Now that I've recovered from my double Barracuda Bay purchase, I plan on getting three of these before they are retired. I love the brick-built hull... and something I'd love to play with is a widening of the hull as well as lengthening it, in order to accommodate cannons on both sides as you mentioned. I think the Skull's Eye Schooner (a set I didn't get as it came out at the beginning of my LEGO Dark Age right after high school) used sliding turntables to allow cannons to move smoothly from one side to the other without needing cannons placed on both sides. It's a neat idea... but quantity is better when it comes to cannons, as the Silent Mary demonstrates... that was the only LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean set I was able to get, just as I was getting back into collecting and building again at the end of 2019. I definitely regret missing out on the Black Pearl... but hopefully LEGO will re-release it when the sixth movie finally comes out. I admit I wasn't crazy about the brick-built sails when I first saw this set, and that's the main reason I didn't pick it up right away... but the more I see it, the better it looks.
@@DownUnderBricks Although I love LEGO cities I really enjoy your creations where you take a set and make it better. As well despite my lack of enthusiasm for Star Wars(I know such slander) I always am amazed at your collection and who can't love your excitement for another Star Wars build! Keep it up!
Ha! You managed to slip in ‘pieces of eight’ - thanks dubz. I think adding a plank to one side of the ship would make it look less monotonous, and add interest for minifig placement. Your call x
Great build. Looks great with the custom changes you have made. Just shows that this is a theme that should come back. Would actually like to see Lego feature older themes each year and alternate them like have Pirates one year then Castle another year and then Space and so on. Think this would work well as you keep us AFOL's happy and introduce the next generation of builders to earlier themes. Cmon LEGO
I love the red wind, It should be in a pirates of the Caribbean movie and I think it should be one of the friendly ships to the black Pearl. And it’s extremely powerful
Just picked up my first copy of this set. Will build the three builds. Definitely will consider a second copy for MOCs. Parts wise looks to offer some great selections. Nice job DUB!
I recently finished modding mine as well. I only used one set tho so i kept the original proportions. But i rebuild and redesigned alot of it based on old Dutch VOC ships. Its called The Mallard and its not really a pirate ship, more like a privateer/ bounty hunter ship
Great design choice, fits the bow design of the Lego model. Always great fun building your creation from the Lego design. I'm currently building my own castle from the latest castle 3 in 1 set.
@@DownUnderBricks fits well indeed. Old VOC ships were also brightly coloured like that. I kept the bow mostly the same. Only replaced the mermaid with a well, Mallard. Cause thats what the ship is named after. I always name all my ships after birds
Great 👍 build have bought one myself haven’t opened it yet think 🤔 I’ll buy another one or two love what you have done with the sails brick ones have to go with this sets it’s meant to be keep up the good work looking forward to your next video best of luck from Ireland 🇮🇪
Hey there I as a fellow Australian lego enthusiast am looking for your help. I am building a massive diorama/moc that is segmented so it can be a stopmotion set, and on one corner I will have my Eldorado fortress with Portuguese infantry (I couldn’t find a cool lego name) and custom brickish navy and ships. Another corner will contain a ww2 brickish infantry squad and an ameribrick tank squad. Another corner will contain a modern day ameribrick patrol base and for the fourth and final corner I want to do a medieval French or brickish fort or castle. But I don’t know if I should use three lego creator 3-1 medieval castles (not many figs but larger area and many more spare parts for outposts, ruins and modifications) or if I should get the lion knights castle and one creator three in one (many figures weapons and structures with a more realistic look). If what I am doing confuses you or you want to understand the storyline behind the diorama ask me in replies. And please let me know what I should do.
Nice one! Looking at getting a second one to use the tavern or skull on the Barracuda Bay Island as it looks a bit bare. Will be interesting to see what you do
Just an idea, but what if you used one of the other sets to make an original one to compare against yours. Or maybe a complete custom using the new techniques that you've learned. Love the new ship though, so it maybe a challenge, but I think your up to it. Great work!
Yeah I do love these changes for sure. It's large and in charge now instead of a bit of an afterthought pirate ship wannabe. I have cloth sails coming for mine now and since I'm changing the sails I will likely at least change that broad bow as well. Love that Black Pearl also, wow that thing looks good.
Awesome stuff, the ship looks fantastic. I’ve got 2 sets now but not too sure what I’m going to build with them. I’m tempted to do something similar actually as I love pirate ships and tall ships of this nature.
Yes I think the ship is a strong possibility but with some modifications like yours. I also like the skull island build and bought an extra Barracuda Bay island on its own recently for this purpose. I will probably end up doing the same as you and by three of the 3 in 1 sets which will give me plenty of options. Maybe I could build an island with the pirates building a ship mmm🤔
I know you bought 3 of these, but it looks like this could be done with just 2 ships (which is what I have). Do you think it's necessasry to have three ships for this mod to be made, or would two be enough?
I frowned from buying this because the original was too short, I love your moc and it might change my mind. Do you have enough parts left to build a decent version of the tavern?
@@DownUnderBricks built one ship and then the inn , and used the extra rigging to make a wrestling ring moc....lol ....weird what one piece of lego inspires.

Excellent re-MOC dub. I like the new look a lot and the new bow looks much better.
Thanks James
This looks amazing! Glad I could help with brainstorming idea's for the name. It definitely sounds like a fast ship!

Great job on that modification The Red Wind looks fabulous!
Yeah I put it somewhere and forgot about it lol 😂. Cheers Stephen.

I would but that particular pirate in the crows nest is afraid of heights lol 😂 Thanks Paul
