*Very happ shark*
Why do you have an extensive knowledge of mid millennia ship terminology?
*much happ shark*
13:03,
After you make the comparison, it seems for me that the Black Sea Barracuda is more like a pirate ship rather than the 3 in 1 pirate ship.
@@117johnpar Hahah I grew up working on old wooden & steel sailboats. I forget way more than I remember though.
Although we don't have a full-on Pirate theme, I hope that sets like this can sell well enough to encourage Lego to do more like it, and for different themes too, would be nice to get a large Creator Castle and perhaps even Creator classic-styled Space. Great review as always!
Xeron _ they got my $100 already!
They shut down the lego ideas castle in the woods.. and all I hope for castle returning.
What? No more castle?
My gosh! I just realized the skull on the sail has a stud untop of the head because it's supposed to be a lego skull. xD
Like I said, this set is just so charming.
Good catch! That's an amazing detail! Thanks for pointing it out!

Me, an intelectual:
Love the shark.
Best lego shark I have ever seen!
I feel like the pieces of this set would also lend themselves very well to rebuilding into a winter village style set - there is a lot of white, red, green and gold available.
Just to let you guys know, in case you didn’t already know, so the eye on the shark are supposed to be happy and cute but if you want you can turn them upside down and they look like their mean
This is a good ship to dock in the Barracuda Bay.
I got that reference
Maybe I'm just a sucker for pirate-themed LEGO sets, but I really love how this 3-in-1 turned out. The ship is lovely, with a lot of great little details. But I really like the other two builds as well! If you were a kid wanting to take it apart and rebuild it, there seems to be a ton of bang for buck here, just in terms of the fun that could be had with each build.
My goodness that skull on the flag is absolutely genius.
I want a royal soldiers 3 in 1 set to accompany this fantastic set!!!
I really like the customisation potential of this set - personally I got myself two and built a single 3 mast ship with relative ease, and it was a blast modifying it!
I think I’ll get this and Pirates’ Bay and have this built as the ship, and the Bay built as the tavern/island.
I was thinking the same. Nothing against the pirate bay's ship configuration. It's just this as a ship and that as the bay are better together than that as a ship along with one of this one's side builds
Creative!
I have the Pirates of Barracuda Bay set and I built the ship and then built a custom built tavern island using the rest of the pieces of the set and a few from my own parts collection. If I were you I'd build the Barracuda ship, because it's just excellent!
Pirate bay is expensive
The ship is the biggest part of 3in1 but honestly I prefer the Inn, maybe because I prefer buildings in general.
Same
Same
It would be interesting if Lego made a $300-$500 pirate ship set that is sort of on par with sets like the Colosseum and Titanic.
This is a fantastic model, I love all of the small details! And a personal aside: as a sailor myself, I very much appreciated your use of proper terminology!
The 31109 set is the most epic of all the pirate ships released by Lego, starting with the iconic Barracuda 1989. The color combination is almost perfect, the size is great - not too big, not too small. It seems that many fans of the Lego pirate line only care about the size of the ship. And no one appreciates how many awesome things have been crammed into such a small set as 31109. Sails made of bricks are awesome for two reasons! 1: Over time, they will not be damaged like fabric sails, 2 You can build/place any logo or inscription on these sails, also change their texture, shape, size, etc. And fabric sails ... well, they turn yellow, they deteriorate and will still look the same. Please note that in such a small ship, the lower deck is made for guns, which is not present in many iconic Pirate ships from previous years. An additional platform was also added under the first sail, which was also not done in many previous models. The shape, size and finish of the ship as well as the proportions of length to height and width are PERFECT. The texture and amount of detail blew my mind. Compared to the new barracuda, it looks much better and more interesting. The construction entirely of small blocks makes it look like a sculpture. The barracuda next to it just looks dull - it's flat and featureless and its square angular front of the upper deck looks just plain ugly. Barracuda is a bigger model, but it's simply simple and doesn't really bring anything new to the Lego Pirates line. I can't understand why brick fans don't see the genius and perfection of 31109. For me, it's the best-looking Lego Pirates ship ever made. Adding that you can build the other 2 options from it is great. The tiny minuses are the steering wheel, only two cannons and a small number of crew but these are really details that we can change ourselves. I could write a lot about this small but brilliant set. I bought it for Christmas (I couldn't believe how cheap it is!) Now I look at it every day, touch it and play with it every day. I predict that after its withdrawal from the official sale, its price will jump really very high. And I will repeat again - those who admire the Barracuda and often ridicule this smaller ship. Look at him and take a closer look at him and appreciate how this baby is baked and brilliantly built. This set is a dream come true for many AFOLs including mine. I've been waiting for this set for 30 years! :D
Now there's a pirate ship that I'm sure most Lego fans would be happy to possess! I think it's one of those Lego themes that fans would like to have again, very nice review of that Creator set, Jang!
If they gave you a plate to close the deck, you could use the hull for storage, and move the cannons to the top deck for easy access.
Or have 4 cannons per side if you have more.
That shark is really cute and well built! The highlight of the set for me. The colours on the Pirate Ship though look a bit cluttered. Wish they stuck to one primary and one-two secondary colours.
To be fair though, real sail ships could be pretty colourful as well, especially around the captain's cabin.
I think my favorite part of this is that you can leave the big jolly roger off the front sail and it would make a great 'civilian' sort of merchant ship for the older pirate ship sets to prey upon, there's never really been much in the way of ships to be the victims of piracy in Lego other than one tiny ship from the old Imperial Trading Post in the 1990s. Having the hold area where you can configure it for cargo is a nice plus too in that regard. Do agree about having a cover for the hold but at least it has a built up top deck you can modify to have a cover, something else that's been missing from many past pirate ships.
Overall even if it's a smaller ship than the Black Seas Barracuda and some of the other big pirate ships it's at least something kids (who are lucky enough to have both) could play with together, or if you were setting up a little 'action' display you could have pirates boarding the smaller vessel. Overall I think it's great. Still wish we could get pirate themes happening more regularly, but it's nice to see the little mini-revival this year.
From a seven-year-old viewer: "I liked the ship because it has a lot of the same features as my Black Seas Barracuda pirate ship [vintage set 6285]. When I grow up I want to build a Lego pirate ship where when you steer the wheel, it turns the rudder. Thanks for the video, Jang!"
Very surprised by the sailing knowledge
I love this! Creator very seldom disappoints. Im getting this. And I'm usually a star wars only guy.
I love this ship! The only thing is that my OCD wants all 4 cannons, or at least one on each side and not two on one side! haha
This was a true LEGO pirate ship! Excellent value and a brilliant build. If you don't have one and you're on the fence about getting it... GET IT WHILE YOU CAN!!! you won't regret it 😊😊
I still don't understand why there's a hole in the ship. They could have made the deck removable or even just have made it a normal pirate ship
It's just an open deck design, like all the classic ships were done. I don't even know if minifigs fit could standing up if you put another deck over it.
@@Benjamin0119 unfortunately the space is not tall enough to fit a minifig, should you cover up the hold. However for smaller ships it was not uncommon to have been designed with an open hold without a cover.
It's strange that the anchors are made with molded pieces though in Ninjago ship they are built without specialized ones.
I agree; would have preferred a brick-built anchor here. And a roof for the cannon room/lower deck. But otherwise, amazingly good set here:)
@@johnnations5932 yeah but to be fair, creator sets usually don't use specialized pieces, usually opting for everything to be brick built.
I wanted this ship since I saw your reveal stream of it Jang, I literally got it as soon as it was available and I'm in LOVE with it, I think it's an amazing mid-sized ship and even goes nicely with my Ninjago Movie Destiny's Bounty! Great review as always man, keep up the awesome work!!!
Should have included a rope piece or 2 for rigging the front most sail and back most sail above the wheel.
Soooo... Cyberpunk flying ship?
Put the eyes upside down and it becomes something else
It's great that they started including spare clips and I hope they continue to. The little buggers are prone to breaking if you are not gentle and delicate with them and even the accidents happen.
Yo ho, yo ho LEGO Pirates is back.
!!!!!CONTROVERSIAL OPINION!!!!!
I prefer the Inn to this, I'm a sucker for Modulars
Amazon UK had it for £60 a few weeks ago. Kinda regret not getting it. But I'm sure it'll be that price again soon, esp with Prime Day and Black Friday coming up
Hit and miss set. I agree with JANG x 1.5, the gap in the deck is a HUGE miss! The lack of sufficient railing is odd too. The sails ARE brilliant, though! And the shark is cute; looks like it's perpetually sticking its tongue out! Ultimately, though, this _feels_ like a budget ship to me even if it kinda isn't.
It's so sad. All the good sets come out and I have such a small budget, by the time I get the money I miss them.
I feel like that puppet monkey meme when he goes on about opening all the bags to build sets. I've opened all the bags to my sets since I was little, it was the only way I knew how to build lol. I wouldn't say it painful, I've just gotten used to it over the passed 16 years lol.
This ship is even better than Barracuda to me. More compact, easier to display and with a pretty good amount of details as well. Personally not a fan of the brick-built sails (but completely justified as a creator set) i would probably switch them for fabric
I don't have either, but I agree with you there
Finally the third! They've been amazing. Keep it up!
Do what you want cause a pirate is free you are a pirate 🏴☠️
Watching the comparison with Black Seas Baracuda made me realize that I much prefer this one. The Baracuda honestly looks too plain and I guess unneccessarily big to me. I've never really thought a lego pirate ship was too big before but now I guess I do. This one feels so much more charming and alive to me. It's very subjective of course.
well, I have both and honestly love both. But oh boy, baracuda one is just majestic. I had crazy smile just watching it, right now it's in island form with the creator ship sailing near on display, for my coworkers to enjoy during home office calls :)
I really like it. Might get it, like the smaller size, makes it easier to display it.
For a less friendly shark, just turn the eye upside down, e voila, angry shark!
Great 3 part review Sir, thank you!
At 7 min of your video, the rigging that holds up the mast is called a shroud. I like how you did the main build review last, I watched the 2 alternative builds in details as I didn’t build them, I used my 2 sets to make a bigger ship. Mod design and process on the eurobricks forum: www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/178493-mod-31109-creator-pirate-ship-mod-of-combining-2-sets/
Yep I call out the names of shrouds, stays and a number of other nautical elements in the video. The word I was forgetting was ratlines... the lines between shrouds that turn them into climbable ladders. Nice extended ship! I've seen a few similar now and they look great!
@@JANGBRiCKS ah, I learnt a new term, ratlines, thank you! The brick design and discounted prices on the sets open up for many opportunities for MODs.
Hey, isn’t the captain’s head Squiffy from LEGO Ninjago season 6?
Nope it's Bucko
I find it a bit shocking how much talk there needs to be for a Lego set that if you rebuild a set or build an alternative set that you don't get fast food style small numbered package service. I know many AFOLs, especially those not so much into creating MOCs (or building MOCs of someone else), are used to those small packages of parts. This is not what 3 in 1 sets are about. They are still very true to the original way of how Lego is supposed to work and therefore in my opinion "3 in 1" isn't some limited extra value but a huge extra value. You spend time with actual lego "re-building". For children that is certainly a great thing, so much superior to an eve 3 times larger, "build only once and let it settle dust" set. It introduces children to the concept of tearing down Lego with the intent of rebuilding it, completely or partially.
PS: That shark build is fantastic, I wouldn't mind if that were the standard shark in any Lego set.
the best part of this set is that incredible eye patched scull
Video teaches you a bit about what's on a ship too. Nice! Might pick it up next month.
I have this and the ship looks great. A cover would have been nice for the deck but if it had a cover probably we would complain that there is nothing on it, no decorations or some other pieces
When I was still a kid me and my brother collected Lego, I the Pirates and he the Castles. I always wanted the Brickbeard's Bounty, my brother got the Castle but I never got the ship. Partially because I was the younger sibling but mainly it was always out of stock when my parents were ready to actually get it. I didn't know at the time but the Ship was the only set from the shortlived 2009 pirates theme. Just recently I got what childhood me couldn't and while it is not the same ship I am almost glad I never got that set because It made obtaining this one every bit better. I love it and now as an adult I can appreciate it's design far more. It looks great and was fun to build. If more pirates come I may become a lot poorer haha.
Actually, the proportions of this are better than the Barracuda. With the fore and aft castles, this looks VERY much like a real historical carrack, like this one upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c3/Vila_do_Conde_2018_%289%29.jpg/1920px-Vila_do_Conde_2018_%289%29.jpg Remove the skull from the sail and you have a pretty good Lego representation of Magellan's ship.
Wonder why they don’t include 2 cannons for each side of the ship
Just noticed that is bucko's head from ninjago season 6: skybound on the captain
That face print originally was other pirates and captain red beard in 2015
Oswin bricks exactly what I was about to comment!
I have enjoyed all 3 reviews, great set, no deck is a miss, but overall fantastic, brilliant shark
Thanks for reviewing ☺
GREAT review. Man, Jang, you really push the bar up again and again in Lego RUclips review style, content, and especially the way you use English. I almost can't watch the other "big" Lego youtubers because they butcher, rush through, and copycat their weak English (and these are native English speakers from North America I refer to now. And I like lots of their content! just not the awful way they talk!). I hope all will learn from you that a sincere, real voice is immeasurably better than the stilted, affected and insincere-sounding way others speak during their reviews.
Also, thanks for showing us this set in 3 whole videos. I love your analysis of why the main build takes less time. And speaking of time, we appreciate the extra time you took here.
I personally always open all the bags (when i'm building alone, i mean) and sort by color, shape and size before beginning. That means I'd have no trouble, once I'd finished sorting, making any of these options my first build of this set. Love how you referred to the sorting/prep process as a bit of "friction." You are an eloquent, very smooth user of high-level but clear, unpretentious English sir. Way to go.
Now I want to make a version of the Thousand Sunny or the Going Merry from OP
Biggest 3 in 1 set? Overall looks special to me!
Wow barracuda looks huge compared to this which I thought looked big alone
Your vocabulary is amazing by the way. Not at all underappreciated!
I am collecting the pirates of the caribbean theme but wont pay that much for the black pearl so I thought about this as an alternative this video really helped decide on buying this set
I found Knighton Castle from Nexo Knights in my store. Should I buy this or the Castle?
This
This will be sold anywhere for at least six more months.
So if you like the castle and expect enough income to buy both, i’d go for that one first.
A late answer but it depends. If you are a fan of Nexo knights or don't like ships, maybe that one but other than that, this set is great. I am a fan of series like Speed champions and Racers, but I kinda like this set.
This set has an especially brick built feel to it.
IKR
Is it just me but I can't watch old Jangbricks videos. I'm like Awww we don't see Jang... Keep up the great work!!
I liked it. The first Mainstream Lego Pirates for years, it makes a quite good Display piece despite being "just" a creator thing.
Great new format videos! Thank you!
I wish the set came with two more cannons, but I got two of this set so I have 4 cannons and a skull island
Lego left the two studs on the chest of the mermaid bare absolutely on purpose.
I love that this is fully brick built, I'm definitely going to get this set but that'll be mid 2021. I was fascinated by the building techniques and the fact that it's apart of the creator theme is amazing. And the price of 90 is more than fair.
I'd say, the PERFECT pirate ship ever!
Build it a few days ago, and it is quite an eye magnet!!!! It is such a great ship, and I think that it is Lego's most underrated ship. It is far better than older sets that sell for a lot of money if you can get your hands on one. Also, the fact that it is fully brick build opens up the way for a ton of MOCs!!!!!With 2 sets one can build a terrific ship!!!!!! I agree on the amount of figures, a couple more should have been better but hey......at least we got ourselves a descent pirate ship!!!!!
PS: You rotate the shark's eyes to give it an angry/aggresive look instead of a happy one :-)
Great review btw!!!!
Lego needs to remake the Pirates of the Caribbean sets and make them UCS
I can get if for 61 euro, but I would rather buy baraccuda.
Great Review Jang! Just saw this Set at my local Walmart. Had to see the reviews on it before purchasing lol I've always wanted a lego pirate ship. This looks like a great cheaper alternative than going on Ebay for other Retired lego sets. The 3 in 1 build value makes the building all more worth it but also challenging. I had a fun & rather irritating time rebuilding the Star Wars Republic Gun Ship the other day lol alot of pieces in one big Ziploc bag lol
That’s no ordinary mermaid, that’s Ariel!
Lego set is awesome!
I have the barracuda bay set, and it's amazing!!! But I feel like I'm missing out on this one, I like it a lot, but I can't seem to justify paying another 100 on a similar pirate ship...........so my question is: if anyone has the 2 ships, is it worth it to buy this set on top of the barracuda? Am I missing out on a lot here?
I'd say get it if you can afford it. It's a very enjoyable build and pairs well with bigger ships (I own the Destiny's Bounty from 2018 and even tho different style they look nice side by side). The choice is yours tho!
It depends on you, the prime value of the creator set is the nice and unique brick-built hull (and sails if you like the look of it) who is a very good building experience, and the secondary model (the tavern) who is a thing we rarely get from Lego. Aside from that you have to consider that you already have spend a good amount of money for the best pirate set ever made.
Since the Barracuda is the best to display, i would not recommend you the creator set if not for the building experience, or pure childish play.
OR if you are a hardcore Lego pirates fan, because we are not gonna get anything before a few years probably (buy and store it to built it in 2023 when you starve the theme lol)
Definitely check the instructions somewhere if you dont get it tho.
Lol same Dna.
I'm getting the Barracuda soon. I'd buy this Creator set as well, either to use the modded Inn B-Model to combine it with the Barracuda Bay when the three ship sections are combined as a rebuilt Barracuda or to mod the Creator ship (no pirate decor and cloth sails) to make it a "merchant victim" for Barracuda, get some non-pirate figs for sailors and have the Creator set's pirates to join the Barracuda's crew.
I think the only way you can justify buying this with Barracuda is if you transform this to a different ship. Now my bias is not what you specifically asked for because I do not own this ship, however I do own Barracuda Bay, Armada Flagship, Imperial Flagship (2010), Caribbean Clipper, and Renegade Runner. Personally if you wanted more pirate ships I think buying some classic ones would be a better idea. However, if you want to add this ship to a different fleet it would work beautifully. I personally might buy this ship and customize it to be a merchant ship, Bluecoat ship, Armada ship, or a redcoat ship. You can easily change the faction due to the brick built sails where you can just build different logos. The decision is really up to you, I just feel like this can't compete with classic pirate ships from Lego. This is definitely a better pirate ship though when compared to Brickbeard's Bounty or The Brick Bounty.
Wow, it looks awesome!
nice!
This will be a birthday attraction in my lego city.
Can't wait to get this and Barracuda Bay.Very good pair, i just need to get some shelves and another desk first, running out of space lol
My set also came with same extra pieces except I have 4 extra 1x1 black plates with clips. I had a feeling I might’ve forgotten it in the Build but this is reassuring.
Looks great, the design of the sails is also ok by me, but the front section (bowsprit, jib; the entire bow construction) is the deal breaker for me.
This is still the benchmark:
www.steinelager.de/img/sets/1/0/2/1/0/10210-1_0.jpg
PS: It doesn't mean it is a bad set. It is just not for me.
0:50 Mordecai
Thank you for the BSB comparison.
To make the shark less comical turn the eyes upside down to make them angry.
its worth the 150 AUD i bought it for i am very pleased with the set after mainly buying lego star wars with this being the first set i have bought from a different theme i am very keen to buy more now
Awesome Pirate Ship!
On the box art, it looks like the deck boy is from another pirate group, considering the other two pirates are wearing blue clothing and he's the one walking the plank
IKR
Pirates are all fine and dandy, but I want british or french soldiers! A beautiful fregatte or ship of the line and a big fortress!
Hi again, Jang!
Built this the other day. Really good build, very sturdy and some cool techniques used to angle the sides too
17:38 I'm making a note here.
My boy Mordecai from regular show making a cameo in this set
Interesting for me too. I actualy got 4 spare 1x1 black horizontal clip pieces. So i guess this is not uncommon with this set for whatever reason.
I'm blown away how good that set is.
I've had this set 2 months and did not know the sides opened out. 🤦
I like your new way to do these three in one sets
