I never had the problem with the Red Beard Runner falling apart, the ship is very sturdy, even more so in my experience than the Black Seas Barracuda is. I will agree that it isn't as fantastic looking, but I think it has qualities as a toy that shouldn't be overlooked 🙂Also I think it has a fantastic colour sheme with the red hull and the blue/white cabin, as well as the great design idea to have to rear of the ship look like a giant skull. I actually would put the Runner in A tier tbh.
Well for me especially the colors are too childish. It’s too colorful to be a fearsome Pirate ship. I also don’t like how the sails are just the small top ones and the rigging isn’t attached to the hull (it’s loose for the playfeature). For me it’s a L set. Armada Flagship was 1000 times better.
I ordered creator, that's the only one I want. No one piece hull, no fabric sails, compact but full of detail, and you can make two other things with it, it's perfect.
So... the Redbeard Runner is actually _intentionally_ supposed to fall apart at specific built-in weak points as a play feature. At that point in the story of the LEGO Pirates theme, Redbeard was on the run from the Imperials, and the set was meant to represent Redbeard's last stand, with the Imperial Armada finally bringing him down. It's still got a lot of issues, don't get me wrong. The designers made some SERIOUS and arguably unnecessary sacrifices to the design of the ship to fit them in. But I wouldn't knock it _that_ much for it being a bit on the fragile side.
I am still waiting for a remake of the trading outpost of the britts and a remake of the big islanders set where captain ironhook is finally able to escape the island with some remaining crew.
i would so buy the trading post and the big islander base!!! I do hope the trading post is made to be quasi modular with Eldorado ánd also has a small ship with it. The Islanders' enchanted island will need some very cool stuff added too, and I hope the trimaran/catamaran is made to be bigger and better than in the original sets
This is fairly accurate to how I would place them, I would just put the 4+ ships into F tier, put the Red Beard Runner into C tier, and move the Brick Bounty and Brickbeard’s bounty up one spot each. I would like to see a video featuring the Imperial ships as well, and how you stack them up against the Pirates Ships.
absolute banger thumbnail! i need to swap my black falcon tier list video to one like this. (also i really need to buy the 3 in 1 pirate ship before it retires)
Great video, I agree with most of your rankings. I am curious if you are planning an Imperial/Armada Ranking to balance this video? I would like to see where you land on those sets as they have a lot of smaller ships in the 'opposition factions'
The Lego Creator Pirate Ship is great, perfect shelf size without needing alot of room. I built it last year. Was glad to get the Scary Pirate Island GWP when I bought the Galaxy Explorer. Also went hunting for a bunch of other pirate mini-figs to add to the pirate ship to bring it to life.
I understand why so many people don’t like the gimmicky features of the Red Beard Runner (i.e. mast collapsing and cabin falling back), but what I don’t get is why no talks about the one feature of the Red Beard Runner that no other Lego pirate ship to my knowledge has ever replicated: FUNCTIONAL RIGGED SAILS. As in, the sails can be raised/lowered, just like on an actual ship! In every other set, the sails are always locked in place, which always bugged me. Given how yard construction (the crosspieces that the sails hang from) has gotten much sturdier over the years, it would be very easy to implement on a new wave of pirate sets.
I oddly never had a full-size pirate ship by Lego as a kid, or even now as an adult. Though it is fascinating how cloth sails became somewhat less common later on, as "Pirates of Barracuda Bay" (21322) was discontinued at the end of 2021.
Honestly, the Imperial Flagship has to be the best LEGO Pirates ship build just due to how far they took the concept. If this included the Imperial powers, I would say it deserves to be in S-tier. It’s simply a ship design we have never gotten before or since.
I’ll be honest, in my opinion the original black seas barracuda is overrated. The 2020 version is far better with 4 cannon holes each side opposed to just 2. And for me I just think there’s far better ship designs that can be made for a ship.
Glad you put respect on the skull eye schooners name because it’s personally my favourite pirate ship but the Black Seas barracuda is the most elegant. I don’t like the redbeard runner but it’s C tier not D tier. Sadly the closest I come to owning a pirate ship is the islanders island catamaran from 1994
I have both the Black Seas Barracuda and the Skulls Eye Schooner and I’d also say Skulls Eye Schooner is my fav but I underestimated the Black Seas Barracuda. At first I didn’t even wanted it. I just bought it because I found it at a garage sale for very cheap. Then after cleaning and building it, damn that’s a cool ship. Still Skulls Eye Schooner is number 1
Good video man, I don't agree with all of your picks, but it's your video, lol. For one, The Skull Eyes Schooner is A tier, not S. The play features hurt the set more than help it. It's still a great ship, but has some serious flaws that nostalgia over looks. Also, Brickbeard Bounty vs the Brick Bounty is a tough one. I tend to rate them about the same. Brickbeard's Bounty is prettier looking, yes. But is inferior as far as build techniques. The Brick Bounty improved the build of BrickBeards Bounty as far as sails, masts, captains quarters, the plank and crows nest. Brickbeard's Bounty has a better color scheme, that's really it imo. But I still rate them about the same.
Not a bad list tho as someone who owns the 2009 ship, the sails on it are absolute garbage. They're just poorly attached on long tubes which makes them move around way too much (unlike when they're on ball joints), the front mast moves up and down and the mermaid figurehead is just attached with 1 pin so it keeps moving out of place and the interior in the cabin is pretty lacking, even for 2009. Also no ladder up to the helm and no anchor. The only real thing i'd give it credit for is a greater, more natural colorscheme (dark red instead of regular red) and a decent minifig collection
The 2015 brick bounty set I wasn’t a fan of because my favorite thing about the 2009 Brickbeards bounty was the Lego shark that can swallow a minifigure whole
Barracuda Bay is an S-tier set in and of itself...but as a ship, I feel it's lacking. It doesn't have cannons you can have the crew position and operate, you can't access the furnished interior below the deck, and it's not very sturdy. The three separate sections are bolted on with only a few small pieces, which makes it feel like it's going to fall apart when you're carrying it around. Now, there are enough pieces to convert and customize it into an S-tier ship, but this is about judging the sets as the official designers made them, not what we can do with them per se. I'd probably give it a B.
In my Opinion the Black Seas Barracuda is overrated, i dont like the ship because it is like a Cheaper Build Version and i Love the Vibe of the Old Vintage Pirate Sets. The only „new“ Ship that looked Good was the ship from 2009. The Creator Ship and the Remake of the Blackseas Barracuda Would be at the End of my Tierlist.
As someone who has red beard runner, I totally disagree with you about it, it is very very sturdy and only falls apart if you want it to. I can't imagine kid me having any more fun with the skull eye schooner than the red beard runner.
I am wondering if the creator pirate ship is worth picking it up. Watching this set for a while. But there were always other sets which appealed more to me.
The amount of builds you can create with this one is insane 😁 Not to mention it's the easiest pirate ship in Pirates theme to transform into a trading or Imperial vessel, or a different looking pirate ship by simply changing the config of those brick built sails & swapping the colours of bricks 👌🏻
I agree the 1989-97 versions are better. And i only want to get a pirate ship made in 1989-97. Also i prefer the original face Legos for the pirates and castle series. I just wish the pirates from 1989-97 were at a reasonable price. The price they want for the 80s and 90s pirates is very unfair the same with the Lego castles and kings of the 80s and 90s. Although i did get a Lego creator castle they made 2 years ago but that because i really wanted to build a castle for my history theme idea. I would like to get a 90s king castle and that joust set from the 2000s. And i want a Lego 90s pirate ship.
really?? creator pirate ship is rank A?? it only has 2 canons. terrible build because its meant to be also built into something else. (clever but terrible when you are only interested in the pirate ship). also plastic sail just sucks a55
Umm...where be the Imperial Flagship??? Also, seriously...Redbeard Runner is the same level as that 4+ hunk of garbage? Dude. Harsh.
*Imperial* flagship, it's in the name it's not a pirate ship

The fun factor of the red beard runner is incredible, it deserved way better

I just got it, sets available on Ebay. In fact, I have 2 of them haha
Buy the Creator ship

I agree with the exception of Red Beard Runner. I would put it at at least a C tier lol!
The Black Seas Barracuda is an Awesome Pirate Ship! I guess the Cross Bone Clipper is a Toys "R" Us Pirate Ship and we're too old for 4+ figures.
I oddly never had a full-size pirate ship by Lego as a kid, or even now as an adult. Though it is fascinating how cloth sails became somewhat less common later on, as "Pirates of Barracuda Bay" (21322) was discontinued at the end of 2021.
