Hello all! Today I bring you the crappy PC port for Dead Rising 2 and a guide to show you how to use an Xbox controller for the game! Sadly, there doesn't seem to be a way to get an Xbox ONE or Series X controller to function in the game due to its age. If one is to be found, please let us know!
In order to accomplish this, you will need one of the following:
1) WIRED Xbox 360 controller (should work right away, without issue)
2) Wireless Xbox 360 Controller AND Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for PC
3) Wireless Xbox 360 Controller AND Play & Charge kit
You will also need a program called x360ce 32-bit version 2.0.2.62. It HAS to be that specific version (2.0.2.62) as the new version no longer works. Download link below!

this WORKED with my xbone controller. i enabled all the xinput checkmarks and changed the hook mode to the compatibility option. it isnt an offficial controller so maybe thats why, but anyway, thank you for the upload :)
I'm redoing the tutorial for an Xbox one controller, I'm giving you credits at the beginning. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS :)

Hey on widnow 11 under device manger is it xbox 360 contoller for windows
I can confirm it works with a wired Xbox One controller. Just gotta remember to install the virtual device driver (the option shows up on the 'Issue' tab), and also to select the game from the drop down menu after adding it. Thanks.
God, what a bad port. I get this was released before the Xbox one controller was a thing, but Jesus. You'd think they'd make a patch.
I know right? I mean I'm even surprised my 360 controller even works still. I'm still researching a workaround, but even with x360 the game still doesn't detect a one controller :(
Such a disappointment that PC version doesn't have controller support by default easily :|
It is indeed, the game was made for games for windows live which was discontinued in 2014. It was a quick port with little thought put into it :/
As of the date of this comment Xbox one controllers work. Great vid man I’ve tried playing the Pc port for years but always forgot about this problem
How'd you get it to work?
So I've been able to play the game using a ps5 controller and boy it took days to get it to work. But the only issue I'm facing now is the buttons are shown as keyboard buttons in the game. Does anyone know how to fix it? Also the controller option is greyed out for ne.
I am still trying to find the unknown device but it does not show it in the device manager :/
Hey on widnow 11 under device manger is it xbox 360 contoller for windows
Should be, yes!
so if i using xbox 360 controller i should be just plug and play? and the greyed controller setting will be able to be enabled? need a respond asap thanks.
Yes you can just plug and play
If it doesn't work, then x360 will definitely get it to work. Just make sure to run it as administrator, otherwise it'll be ineffective.
I'm using a BF1 edition wired xbox one controller that it didn't like. It works fine with the x360 program though. The video was great, thanks!
So you actually got the one controller to work with it?? Im gonna have to screw with it some more. The 360 controllers' analog sticks feel stiff AF so it would be nice to use a one controller
on me it was only the dead rising 1 game that could use a controller without anything and that is older then dead rising 2 :-/ ive tried this things but it says still disabled i use a robot white xbox one controller
Dead Rising 1 wasn't originally released on PC, but CapCom released it to PC in 2016 with Xbox One controller support, unlike Dead Rising 2, which was released on Steam before Xbox One was even a thing. Also, you'll need an Xbox 360 controller in order to enable controller input on Dead Rising 2.
@@Boo1ya nop you do not youre 2 months to late you can download a emu controller to it i uses a xbox one controller and not a xbox 360 one
@@sylface86 Oh okay, well I'll try that. Thanks.
@@Boo1ya yes it will work...
my game doesnt even have an options menu
Are you playing Off The Record? You'll have to start a game to get to the options through the pause menu. DR2 OG should have options on main menu
The link in the description is not v2.02.62, it shows as v4 on my end, thus the game is not working with it!
The link in the description is the same one I am using. Not sure why it wouldn't work with yours.
Are you running it as administrator? It absolutely will not work unless you do
Also this only works with a 360 controller. If you're trying to use a one controller it will not work. Make sure not to update it as well (if it even asks you to)
@Taming MY Impala thanks for the tips, admin didn't work either. Im using a ps4 comtroller.
@@KevinTheGuide OK i fixed it, i had to set the hook mode in "options" to "comparability"
just beat the entire game tried running it back and controller doesnt work anymore lmaoo port blows
Oh yeah the DR2 PC port is absolute garbage. Unfortunately the only thing that might help is uninstalling the entire game and reinstalling it then redoing the process. Capcom refuses to fix it, but they might not even have access to it anymore considering it wasn't made in house. The company that made DR2 (Blue Isle Studios which then became Capcom Vancouver) was shut down after Dead Rising 4 (go figure, heaping trash can of a game) so DR2 might be lost for good.
@@KevinTheGuide yea i beat it with a ps4 controller and ran it thru ds4windows with no problems and tried my xbox controller every way no dice (funny cause literally just before that i first encountered skateboard flying in the air and skating to heaven so maybe thats it for me thanks for the help bro keep making vids
now hang on a minute, why do you have an options tab on your main menu but i dont?
Is it greyed out or non-existent in its entirety?
@@KevinTheGuide oh nah i realized you were on the original DR2 and not OTR which requires you to load your save before you can access the settings, but yeah i've done what you said and the controller somewhat works but certain inputs like attacking, aiming, and switching weapons doesnt work and continue to not work despite rebinding them in x360
if it helps i'm trying to play the game with the KingKong 2 pro controller
(nvm figured it out, my controller's buttons are labled different so i had to rebind them to get it to work)
@@SirDubstep hahaha i never heard of that controller but I am glad you got it to work!
can this work on a logitech controller?
maybe, but you might need to enable a couple extra settings. There is a link in the description (very top) showing how to connect an xbox one/series x controller, that might be what you need to follow. Just make sure to follow it closely.
I can't promise anything, though. DR2 for PC is extremely weird when it comes to controllers :/ but I wouldn't see why it wouldn't. just enable compatibility mode in the settings tab. also be sure to fix any issues in the issues tab. it will probably have you download an extra file but it is super quick
Can't i use one of those plugins that emulate a 360 controller, and map all my xb1 buttons to it
That is what x360 is and I had no luck with it. The game refused to let me use a one controller. I've searched around and had no luck finding a method of using a one controller
@@KevinTheGuide So if I Buy any old Wired Xbox 360 Controller plug it in and Start up Dead Rising 2 on steam it should not be greyed out anymore right? I can maybe find a used one here in town at pawnshop.
@@A7XUnderWorld sorry I think I have my replies push notifications off, but yes a wired 360 controller should work without any third party applications. If it still gives you issue, you can just use x360 and it'll take care of it
I’m so upset this didn’t work
It does work but you have to have it setup properly depending on what you are trying to to use. you running 360ce in administrator? You disable steam controller? Are you trying a wireless 360 controller or an Xbox One controller? Xbox one requires a different setup
@@KevinTheGuide using a legion go handheld controller.
I didn’t have the same options as you said and I downloaded the exact version of 360ce. I couldn’t find input hook or whatever
