As a Rock/Metal player I don't listen or play Pop music at all (if that's what Shawn Mendes style is..?) but I do admire Mike's energetic playing, his enthusiasm and I think his groove certainly sits well with this genre. Props bro!
Pop music is completely different from what i'm aiming, but lessons like this one mean a lot no matter what genre you play. Everyone who's achieved their goals is going to have something to teach that you can apply in your own way, and it's beautiful! Rock on 🥁🤘🏻
Drumeo: Please list the maker and sizes of the cymbals and drums played on each Drumeo video. This is basic information that the cameras do not pick up completely. It's not enough to say: "John plays Zildjian cymbals", or "John plays Yamaha drums". It would be very helpful to add this information to all the Drumeo videos on the Drumeo RUclips channel. Thanks.
I'm 5 mins into this - and already I can tell that he is seriously underrated! Going into the studio this weekend for an artist whose writing is similar, and this is extremely helpful.
I'm really inspired - this was a great video, and put a great drummer on my radar I hadn't heard of before. Hes doing pop drumming real proud, and I got a lot out of seeing and hearing about his integration of electronics, as I'm currently adding to my setup. Thanks Drumeo!
This is absolutely beautiful ❤ i think many drummers have to hear this from such an great Musician/Drummer 🙏 so many good points, we all have to keep in mind. Thanks for your Time 🎼🥁
That's how a drummer should sound. Not over the top or bland either, just enough to elevate the music and make your foot tap. Never seen before, or not aware of but a fan of him now, very musical.
Very humble guy who clearly made to the "top", but it would be interesting to know how he got there, which techniques or rudiments he considered essential and whether or not he had any formal training.
keep your ears and heart open, and you'll find learning opportunities all around you. genre, style, skill level, etc. are all irrelevant categories that will limit what you can learn, how you can grow, the music you can make. never heard mike before but damn if he didn't drop some universal drumming, musical, and inter-personal ideas on us. i've literally taken heavy double-bass drumming musical ideas and applied them to my jazz combo playing to great effect. as in life, the more diversity, the better things can be. no one will be worse off for taking a little tony williams/miles, or ringo/beatles, or peart/rush, or mike sleath/shawn, or [insert drummer/group here] and adding them to their "gig bag"...
The paradidle is a crazy rudiment my guy! Seriously it's a very underattwd fill , we just need to learn how to apply it on our fills and grooves, you'll be surprised of the new ideas you could create !
@@wolfme8644 yes, and the speed also, because you move much more efficiëntly. Singles can be good for some things but often I think doubles sound better, till now I just didn't figured them out well
Can anybody tell me what he's using for dampening on the snare and toms? I can only find a product similar to the snare dampener, and I'm seeing them everywhere! I want one! lol

dear Drumeo, Make the same kind of video with MattMcguire............ And @MattMcguire no Videos From Your RUclips Channel :( We Need a #Comeback With Your Channel.
I think to write this guy off because you aren’t a Shawn Mendes fan is a disservice to him and yourself. Always try to learn, especially from a pro. Also I will say, as a Shawn Mendes fan, the song choice wasn’t great and I don’t particularly like these two songs. Shawn has much better songs now.

Wow! Mike is killing it! I’ve got a whole new level of respect for “pop” drummers!
Just waiting for that day when Mike lets me play "In my Blood + Outro" in a live arena haha it's so freaking awesome! This was a great episode!
Sure you will get I think

love Mike's approach to drum parts!

This is cool. The sound, the precision, the beat, so cool. I wanna learn to drum like this. Love it❤❤❤❤

I like what was said about being an adaptable musician. I think that's really important. Nice video Drumeo!
"After the whole Nirvana...that era."
Ever felt yourself turn to dust before?
Lol yah I definitely misspoke a bit there…that Unplugged is one of the greatest live albums ever
🥰
Mike seems like a really nice and humble person!! Love this interview
Wooow! 🔥 Thanks for sharing! 🤩 Amazing perspectives, especially #5! 💯
Loved this, boy got skills!
Those drums sound amazing , especially the floor toms, not a real fan of the snare sound but, hey ! great drumming.
Wonderful player. Wonderful energy. Very cool introduction to him, for me.
Diggin' his energy both in drums and in convo 👌🏻
This guy gets it!! This was great!!
Talent + work ethic = your best shot at making it.
Such an incredible episode. What a great perspective...Mike's d'man...
😍
that cymbal seccion at 2:58 was very nice !!
Great interview! Thanks 🙏🏼

Mike's drum kit (I know theres insane ones outhere) but it makes mine look like a argos kids toy drum kit
DW Exotic Mapa Burl. It's a beauty!
Beautiful
Great information! If Drumeo or Mike sees this, may I know what his SABIAN cymbal setup is here? Thanks!
I just came up with a paradidle pattern on the snare and racktoms, and now I'm off, I can do crazy quick stuff now.

Such a great lesson!
I like his drumming
What a nice guy.
Thank you for sharing….I’d love to learn drums only I’m not coordinated 🤪
Never heard of this band, but those lyrics are hilarious. Nice guys. Lol

woooo what's going on here is this some kind of prank, we've already seen this you released this lesson about a month back
Drumeo Going to hit 2 M subscribers! Very Noice
I wanna see Eloy Casagrande ON Drumeo, for sure will be one very good episode

Im next. 😅

The brand is 'Snareweight' and it looks like he's using the M80 model specifically, they're definitely some of the best dampeners on the market

Guys…I think having Mike Johnston on the channel is way overdue 😬
If everything is triggered, why is tuning so important?

you need to start drumming at early ages, 2-4 hours every day of practicing and a lot of money. Ez

Simple fills can be crazy depending on context!
The first thing you need to know is that in Canada there is NO WORK. For pro musicians , ask me how I know
He plays well but I really don’t like this kind of drumming 😅😅😅
Больше понтов, а не игры!!!!! this is minus!!!!
this is just like how Taylor Hawkins was stuck playing for a shitty pop band before playing real music lol

Geeky guy doing devil horns to a guy playing a pop song doesn't work.
This guy is cool and his advice is valuable, but Shawn Mendes' music has got to be the definition of forgettable pop drivel.
its purely money driven so theres no chance for it to even sound original the same reason as why kpop never sounds original imo
