What If Alicent Had No Sons? (House Of The Dragon)

  • In House Of The Dragon the center of the conflict is the idea that a son comes before a daughter, a brother before a sister, an argument that started when Queen Alicent birthed her first son. But what if she had no sons?

    Daemon’s proposal to marry Rhaenyra after the brothel incident could probably be accepted by Viserys. With only daughters as heirs, marrying Rhaenyra to any non-Targaryen is an invitation for another noble house to claim the Iron Throne.
    Also, with Daemon still the competing claim to Rhaenyra, it’s in Viserys’ best interest to prevent a Daemon-Velaryon alliance. Caraxes, Vhagar, Meleys, and the Velaryon fleet, backing Daemon’s claim, could easily usurp Rhaenyra’s succession

    fem!aegon would probably be Alyssa for Viserys mother and fem!aemond would probably be maegelle which would invoke images of the faith. Targaryen names are lacking in the A department but not even Viserys would be ballsy enough to name a kid with his second wife Aemma

      I also believe Aegon would be named Alyssa if he was a girl. About Aemond being named Aemma, I don't see him standing up for this but I also don't know if Alicent would opposed as she had no problems with the Queen as far as we know 😂 But I kinda think Aerea or Aelora... Maybe even Alysanne after the good queen.

    Basically every thing changes because their is no real threat to rhaenyra and her kids and the most thing would happen will alicent daughters go to other houses to be married. So the realm is slightly secure but would still be worried with daemon as king and cautious with rhaenyra.

    Ok but I think everyone would think itd be an awful idea to have two of Allicent's daughters marry a Braken and a Blackwood. I mean, those houses already hate each other, then youre gonna give them dragons through Targaryen marriage? Too risky.

    What if Rhaenyra married Borros Baratheon?

    What if Otto set up good marriages for Alicent's children?

      Otto will work to push her out when there is a male grandson. Especially if its on of his grandsons. If Rhaenyra has a son first, she is sorta safe BUT Otto can have her pushed aside for her own son. That is why Elizabeth Tudor didn't have children and imprisoned or killed her cousins. After Mary, it was clear all family was the enemy and she reacted aggressively.

    Maybe Otto would have used the white heart as a sign that the next baby would be a boy, since Alicent looks fairly far along by then. And maybe after it's another girl, that would add to Viserys and Otto's souring relationship...

    If Viserys has all daughters, and if Rhaenerya marries Laenor then marries Prince Daemon, then Daemon (as the younger brother of the late King) is King and Rhaenerya is Queen consort by the laws of the Andals. Daemon’s sons by Rhaenerya, lil Aegon III and Viserys II, are next in law by the laws of the Andals, as the sons of Daemon. Any “dance” that would follow would be between the sons of Rhaenerya. Jace, Luke, and Joff can’t claim through their mother if the laws of the Andals follows the agnatic male and not the female line. But they are older and married to the Kings eldest daughters! So if we favor absolute primogeniture (oldest first no matter the gender) then they have the best claim.

  • @daniellemusella1594
    @daniellemusella1594 3 месяца назад +6

    Viserys liked things to be neat and tidy, regardless of what that philosophy cost others. In this scenario, I can see him, pulling rank and going over Alicent's head, to allow the betrothals. Maybe, he'd add one more in there -- Joffrey to "Aemma" -- to put an even tighter bow on the box. "Daena" would be the wildcard. Since Rhaenyra does not marry Daemon in this timeline, and assuming that Harwin still dies, then her younger sons will not be born. That takes away a set of possible matches for her youngest "sister". The only way to still keep it in the family would be if the gender-swap extended further, meaning that one or both of Daemon and Laena's kids would be a boy. This could be the new catalyst for the dance, placing the rift in the Velaryon camp. Vaemond would push for a slight alteration to the marriage arrangements, meaning he'd want "Aela" to marry one of these sons, instead of watching her be put beside Rhaenyra's illegitimate boy on the throne one day. He could possibly use this to blackmail Rhaenyra, offering to not contest Lucerys's claim to Driftmark, in exchange for her not trying to sabotage this other marriage. (5/17/2024)

    Amazing video as always. 😎👍
    This is interesting to think about as I wonder would Otto would’ve accepted Rhaenyra proposal of having her sons married Alicent’s daughters in this scenario.
    Alicent would’ve refuse and Otto would’ve accepted it, Otto should know that placing a second daughter is not a good idea.
    But if fem!Aegon-II had a son than it’s possible that Otto or Alicent would’ve place him, not sure if that would work?
    If a Dance did happened, it wouldn’t be Rhaenyra Vs Aegon-II, it would be Jace Strong Vs Fem!Aegon-II.
    A civil war between bastard son and a turnborn daughter, do Westeros accept tureborn daughters over bastard sons if the Green push this narrative?
    If the Dance is pushed back years later, the war would be more devastating because their be more dragon rider with the green princess marrying to other houses.

    Arguably Rheanyra would possibly have a better relationship with her siblings in this timeline even if Alicent isn’t pleased. It is said before Aemma dies that nyra is actually looking forward to being a big sister and with Aegon/Aela not being a threat nyra would probably love or at the very least like being involved with her siblings and Viseris would probably encourage the relationship.

    The Greens will still have a conflict by the bloodline. Rhaenyra has bastards, but I think Aella will also be a sloot and Aema being a warrior woman. Alice y would find a great marriage for her eldest daughter, Lannister or Tully or ancient house that can marry her quickly. I think the fourth daughter would be intelligent and sent to Old Town for something.

    I think another change is Jace and Luke might not beat up Aemma at all in this fight with her being a girl. I’d change the dynamics of the who’s a dragonrider even more. Being trained separately, the main bully is Aella going like even the weirdo Helaena claimed Dreamfyre. So the fight is just Aemma vs Rhaena and Baela and it’s more like a girl fight. I’d say with them all being girls the pig scene may or may not even happen. More likely to play out as girl bullying during lessons with a septa with only Alicents girls at the scene. Like Aella going like too bad you have to stay with the septa while we ride our dragons. If the pig prank happens it’s just as likely that the strong boys aren’t around at all and Daena takes their place as the second bully. Helaena being rather meek comforts Aemma afterwards but isn’t able to stand up to the bullying at this point. Anyhow back to driftmark Rhaena and Baela give Aemma a black eye and maybe knock out a few teeth but no lasting damage and having trained separately the strong boys are more neutral and break up the fight and overpower Aemma without hurting her much. After this scuffle though Aemma starts training and emulating grandma Alyssa and becomes the next warrior princess. The rivalry with Luke doesn’t happen and is instead with Rhaena. Maybe to add some drama she has a thing for Luke as a girl and is jealous of Rhaena for getting betrothed to him.

    I think your spot on until the Aemond/Aemma losing an eye part (though i think over her dead body does Allicent name one of her kids after Visery's first wife). I don't think the whole bullying thing would happen at all. as Princes and princesses thier upbringing would not happen together like in the show and books. Girls go to sewing lessons while boys become knights. They would not have enough time together to bully one another. Yes Aemma could claim Vhagar, and if she did i could even argue it would not be looked at favorably since Allicent refused the bethrothal between the kids. A daughter bringing dragons to another house is a big deal. but that whole bullying element is null and void if Aemond is a girl.

    Look, you are clearly Team Green and highly bias towards the Hightowers - I mean, anyone can see this in all your interpretations of What If scenarios in your other videos, but one thing you are wrong and you must admit is that Otto Hightower would definitely push for his granddaughter to become the heir. You seem to forget that Otto is extremely ambitious and he wants his blood on the throne more than he wants the "stability of the kingdom" (which is a fallacy in my opinion). And there is nothing wrong with being ambitious, most people in this world are ambitious and want the supreme power of the Iron Throne, but it becomes a problem when Green supporters try to ignore this and make Otto a saint with altruistic attitudes and who only wants peace. Being ambitious is an important characteristic and intrinsically linked to Otto both in the book and in the series. In the hunt of episode three he would certainly look for the White Hart because this would be like a sign for Viserys to change heirs, just as he did in the case of Aegon. It's okay to admit that the character you admire is not a cool or not 100% good. George doesn't like and doesn't write this kind of character anyway. Everyone there is morally gray.

      @TheEmpyreanSpeaks  3 месяца назад +5

      Wow. Usually, I don’t entertain comments like this anymore but this has to be PEEK ignorance at its finest and it’s honestly very funny. I respect people’s views and interpretations of characters even if I may personally disagree but you, my friend, are wrong. Not only about me being team green but about Otto as a character. Yes, Otto is an ambitious man I’m not denying that, nor am I saying he’s a good person, but before ambition Otto is a firm believer of the tradition and precedence set by Westeros. He firmly believes that a man should inherit the throne of Westeros, and that is not going to change if Alicent only has daughters, especially if there is the possibility that Alicent could have a son. Otto is a smart man, why would he try to do something so stupid as to use a second daughter to pass over the first? He’s not a man purely out for personal gain, while that IS a factor I am not denying that, it is not the only one. Otto pushing for a second daughter to be put over the first has no solid foundation in the world especially this early on when it comes to succession. The reason pushing for Aegon worked wasn’t just because Otto was “greedy” but because male heirs were genuinely the preferred choice of the realm and preferred by tradition for hundreds of years. There is a legitimate argument to be made for Aegon being heir, Aella is different. By pushing for Aella to be heir he doesn’t have that cloak of righteousness that is the stability of the realm, and keeping with tradition behind him. His argument loses validity by pushing for a granddaughter. A second daughter of the king at that. It’s like if Catelyn wanted to make Bran lord of Winterfell over Robb in GOT. It makes no sense. Especially during the kings hunt. There is NO way he’s hunting for the Hart to make his granddaughter look more favorable especially when it’s still entirely possible that Alicent may have a son at some point. Otto lets it be known throughout the story multiple times and IN episode three that a woman can not rule. He tells this to Alicent that it doesn’t matter if Rhaenyra is Jaehaerys come again. As a woman she cannot rule. Why would it be any different for his granddaughter? Otto has let it be known where is values lied multiple times but he’ll make an exception this time because he purely wants power? The only person being biased and who needs to admit they are wrong is you. You who are sold on the narrative that ambition is the only driving force for Otto. It is a factor, and yes I will even agree that the idea of realm stability is just an excuse to justify his political moves. After all if he cared so much for stability he would have pushed for Viserys to marry Laena instead. But like most Westersoi lords he saw an opportunity and took it and this opportunity just happened to align with his views. A man needs to rule, Daemon is unfit, a Rhaenyra is a woman though he suggested her as heir it was only as a half measure until a better alternative came along. Why can’t that alternative, that SON come for his line? Key word, son. A male. The favored gender of most houses in the kingdoms. Otto is not pushing for his granddaughter and me simply stating facts as they are does not make me for one side or the other like people keep saying. Realistically, YOU must admit that him pushing for his granddaughter makes not sense as she lacks a strong claim as the one Aegon had. Aegon had centuries of tradition and precedent backing him, along with lords expecting and waiting for him to be heir. A granddaughter wouldn’t have any of that. The legitimacy and strength to her claim would not be there for him to want to push for her. Two things can be true at once. Otto can want his blood on the throne and want that blood to fall in line with precedence he values and actually have real legitimacy and backing behind it. Now you could make this argument for him pushing for Aella to be heir when Rhaenyra starts producing bastards, I could see that happening as it would make sense for his character. I am in no way making Otto a saint just because he doesn’t have the proper tools to start conflict. Otto is ambitious but is also smart enough to know the benefits of certain actions. Him pushing for a granddaughter without a valid cause or claim is idiotic and the suggestion, in my opinion, is narrow minded.

      Criston Cole wouldve been in a lot of trouble for getting the princess killed. Viserys would be devastated and I doubt the guy would get over what's now his wife, son and daughter's deaths, which would affect his marriage with Allicent (to be fair, I imagine she's be devastated too and would feel alone since she doesnt have a best friend to vent to). Meanwhile Aegon would be king with no competition.

    The best move for the greens in this scenario is for Alicent to make sure none of them marry Rhaenyra's kids. Marry them to other highlords so that the first 2 could have male heirs. Then they can claim the oldest son as their legitimate male heir to the throne
