I saw Jack Nicholson once, when I was an extra decades ago on the set of "Prizzi's Honor". We were filming in a church (St. Ann's?) in Brooklyn Heights. He was about 20 feet away. I was stealing looks at him, trying not to stare. During a break in filming, he paused, looked at me and met my gaze pleasantly with a brief smile of acknowledgement. He was present, connected, and kind. It was only a second but I appreciated it.

Reminds me of the time that I was on a trip to New York. One day we were in a health food restaurant, I wanted to leave after looking at the menu - here we are in New York City with some of the greatest restaurants and best food in the world and we found ourselves in a health food restaurant. 🤔 I couldn’t find anything on the menu that appealed to me and so everyone decided to go to another restaurant. Just as we are getting up to leave John Lennon and Yoko walk in and sit about 2 tables away. I fell back down in my seat and exclaimed “Oh never mind - I’ll have the bean sprout sandwich” ! 😂 I didn’t want to call attention to them and basically just sat there for over an hour stealing glances and in disbelief. You have to understand that I was BEATLE MANIAC as a pre-adolescent and never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine (no pun intended) that I would be sitting 2 tables away from JOHN LENNON ! If I could have seen into the future as a pre-teen - and known that I would be sitting 2 tables away from a Beatle years later - I would have quit going to school and sat in my room waiting for that trip to New York. 😂😂😂😂

@jpsned: It was almost like I mentally flashed back to being a 10 year old Beatles lunatic - remembering watching them on Ed Sullivan for the first time - buying every LP and single record they put out - every Beatles magazine I could get my Beatles greedy hands on. I saw them in concert in 1964 but not the same as sitting 2 tables away from John Lennon in a restaurant on a random trip to New York City. I mean - what are the chances ? NIL ! Yet there he was - and I do have to say - that I acted very cool 😎 no external reaction - no going over asking for an autograph. I’m still kind of amazed that I simply respected his privacy and space. Stealing glances and not staring. Being there - 2 TABLES AWAY - was enough.

    • @jpsned
      @jpsned Год назад +6

@@lilybond6485 And you have that memory and story for the rest of your life. Much better than if you had gone up to them and asked for an autograph--even if they'd been gracious and gave you one, you still would have been invading their space. I think you know that your story of NOT doing so is much better than any old autograph.
It reminds me of an astronaut I once knew. He was one of twelve guys who walked on the moon. I had lunch with him a couple of times. During one of our conversations, he told me something about another famous astronaut in confidence. He asked me not to tell anyone. Now, of course I could tell all my space enthusiast friends what he told me, as it would possibly make me more interesting. But I've chosen not to tell anyone, especially since my friend is no longer around. Keeping what he told me secret--as he requested--is worth more than anything.

Jack Nicholson is one of my favorite actors of all time. There are actors and then there are artists. He makes acting seem like an art, and he does it like no other. A living legend and will surely be regarded as one of the true greats who graced the big screen.

He’s definitely one of those people with some kind of ineffable spark or “it” factor about him. He’s got some kind of intense but slow-burning magnetism, so that he’s just fascinating to watch and listen to, no matter what he’s doing. Very interesting dude (and excellent actor, but that goes without saying).

It was back in 1994 where I was asked to interview Mr Jack Nicholson at a Dorchester suite at 10 in the morning with 4 other European journalists. I did not want to do it as I am not a journalist myself. The film that he was promoting was a terrible one called Wolf by Mike Nichols. He came in wearing a lovely linen cream suit and sunglasses and sat with us on a round table drinking black coffee and smoking unfiltered Camel. He was talking all the time mostly incoherent rubbish .I didn't get the chance to ask a single question although to the day I still believe I had the most interesting questions written down but the other journalists always jumped in front of me rightly so as the could sense I wasn't one of them , asking cliche stuff. When the time was up after 45 minutes I believe the PR person walked in the room to put an end to my misery and Jack's I believe. He walked a few meters away talking to the PR person looked at me still in the room picking up my things and in a very classic J.N. way winked at me 😉 . I won't forget it as long as I live it was like saying how did you get up here cool 🐈
PS I always thought that he was on something tripping to help him go through the day , don't blame him the film was really bad.

You could imagine how much Jack NIcholson must have adlibbed on set just for laughs. He probably reads a lot because he is more articulate than in many of his roles

When I was a teenager, I guess it was the 50s, I went with a couple of buddies to the Colonnade theatre on Yonge Street to see a Harvey Corman film, "Hell's Angels on Wheels", in which I saw young Jack Nicholson. I felt WOW as soon as I saw him. Now, about 70 years later, here he is, and will always be in his many performances.

    ...bester Film.
    Auch ich fand ihn gut!!!
Trotzdem war mir "When the postman rings twice" noch näher!!!
